Just heard back from Senator Black: "Dear ****, Thank you very much for your email. I plan to support the override to the Governor's veto of this legislation. Senator Black"

Thanks for the push! Just emailed Rep. Maggart and Sen. Black: "Rep. Maggart, I am a registered and active voter. I urge you to act in overriding Governor Bredesen’s veto of HB0962/SB1127 that would allow handgun carry permit holders to carry into restaurants that serve alcohol. As you probably already know forty other states already have similar laws. These states have not had problems with violence from allowing carrying into such businesses, and neither will we in Tennessee. I am not a permit holder but have applied for one nearly two months ago. Hopefully I’ll receive it soon in the mail. Further, I am a peaceful, law-abiding person. I seldom drink alcohol and will NEVER consume it while carrying. I only wish to defend myself and my family. My handgun is like an insurance policy: I don’t want to go anywhere without it but I hope I never have to use it. Thank you for the service you provide the public. Sincerely, ****"

Wow, the Governor vetoed the bill yesterday and not one mention? Different thread, I guess.

An alien with permanent resident status can actually get a handgun permit, which doesn't apply here. I believe legal aliens may purchase rifles, shotguns and handguns in TN.
