  1. A poor evaluation. I recall a spectacular destruction of a Corvette that was in flight on an interstate fleeing from police. The driver lost control trying to pass an 18-wheeler on the right. The car spun a quarter turn to the right, the back end hitting the back of the truck. The car quickly disintegrated in the desert beside the road and the driver was ejected to a sitting position in the middle of the detritus, untouched and unharmed. By your definition of "danger" the Corvette driver was not in any at any time because he emerged in excellent condition.
  2. Anyone remember this story? IIRC the homeowner was ultimately not charged. Jack's story reminded me of this incident. :koolaid:Jack, IMHO you were justified in not only clearing leather but also in pointing had you chosen to do so. Maybe even firing if you felt that was appropriate. You WERE in fear of a third person's serious injury and possibly death. Putting myself in your shoes I think I would have pointed, maybe even with finger on trigger. But I wasn't there so I don't really know how I would have reacted. The police officer was wrong (see the link), you WERE threatened with deadly force, but ultimately it may have taken a jury of your peers to exonerate you. What would the average person have done in your shoes? Pretty much the same I would imagine.
  3. /\ /\ /\ I agree with this post! /\ /\ /\
  4. From TWRA's website: I once caught a juvenile copperhead in east Tennessee and let it go later. I like 'em!
  5. I agree. You need to grow a thicker skin. Who's going to even know it's you? And do you think a criminal is really going to trail a "hard target?" Wear your seatbelt and don't give the trooper a reason to pull you over Edit: Wow, about 5 posts between starting to write one and hitting the "POST REPLY" button! I understand what you're talking about in a small town, but seriously, it's not that big a deal. Your right to privacy ranked just a "little" lower than the trooper's perceived need for safety.
  6. Xbox 360 clan interest here. Gamertag "OngoingFreedom"
  7. :woohoo:I LOVE FASA's "BattleTech"! Hmmm, I wonder if those PPC's spit hairballs. Madcat's my favorite mech. Viva la clans!
  8. OC'd today in the Gallatin Walmart. Bought two boxes for the Glock and left. No one fainted, screamed and pointed, or squeaked for help. Or even noticed.
  9. OC'd Saturday at the Gallatin Square Fest. There was no pointing, no staring, no flagging down the bike-mounted po-po. Haven't been to Walmart OC'ing yet, but I will. Their national store policy is to honor the state law.
  10. Please try to remember to include the text with the link. Nothing makes me more irritated than to read old posts and the link is no longer valid, so I have no idea what the posts are talking about.[/RANT] Thanks! Story text below.
  11. Printed in the Commercial Appeal Oct 1, reprinted in The Tennessean Oct 3.
  12. I went to Montana earlier this week and OC'd everywhere there, partly due to the fact that I wanted to go to restaurants that served alcohol, and in Montana you are not allowed to do that CC. And it was something I wanted to get more comfortable at anyway. It was refreshing to walk around, shop, eat etc. without anyone batting an eye. Even on the ramp at the airport--general aviation, not the airline part. I was wanting to visit Yellowstone National Park but lost the opportunity to do so. Maybe the next time I'm there I'll be able to carry there too! Interesting note: Montana does not have a law concerning consuming alcohol while carrying.
  13. I was in Montana earlier in the week, OC. I went into three sporting goods stores while I was there. In the first a girl at the checkout line stated, apologetically, that they needed me to "check" my weapon at a desk in the front of the store. I asked that girl what she needed me to do? She produced a document in duplicate that mentioned checking various things with the store (bows and such) and asked that I would sign it stating that my weapon was unloaded. I replied "Well, I guess I'll have to unload it then," unloaded my G23 in front of her then reholstered it. Signed the form and she handed me the pink copy, which also said to return it to the front of the store when I left. I tried my Glock in a few holsters, chatted with a clerk there about ammo being more plentiful, then returned to the front of the store. I handed the girl the pink copy back and reloaded in front of her before I left the store. The other two stores weren't as squeamish, including one where I tried my Blackhawk Serpa loaded with my loaded G23 on several belts while I had a nice conversation with one of clerks there.
  14. Picked up a Blackhawk Serpa lvl II retention at Academy Sports & Outdoors earlier this week as I have a trip to Wisconsin soon. I walked oc to Sonic in Gallatin with family & friends that evening, and tonight oc'd to church to pick up the kiddos. Wife of a HCP friend saw me and said she wished more people would do that! Got the HCP a few months ago using a SmartCarry, now a neophyte oc'er. I'm going downhill fast.
  15. CoD4, just played it tonight. Same as my forum name: OngoingFreedom
  16. I also do not have a problem with the Knoxnews article. I think we can all agree that "hate" crime is crime pure and simple. I think we also feel the unfairness that "hate" crime is a veiled poke in the eye towards whites. I.e. you can have hate crime BY a white person but there is no such thing as hate crimes ON a white person. Unless that person is gay. And I think we also feel frustrated by the unfairness of it and from the fact that the media, politicians, and most minorities don't see the double standard. Perhaps it is a subconscious allowance for inequality in an attempt to empower a minority against a majority. Inequality, however, is inequality and is wrong in my view. Same as I feel about racial quotas in the job market. The author, Mr. McElroy, didn't write from our point of view. Sure, he doesn't see the double standard. THAT NOTWITHSTANDING I thought his article was pretty fair and reasonable. My .02.
  17. I vote against him every election (Lamar last election too). Obviously I need some help.
  18. Less than lethal ammo: 12 ga. flashbangs, rubber buckshot, fin-stabilized rubber rocket, beanbags, teargas rocket, etc. Everything for the mall ninja in you.
  19. I prefer "People Eating Tasty Animals" myself
  20. Glock 23 and an extra mag in a SmartCarry holster. Was home today so carried like that washing the cars and cutting the lawn.
  21. I'm still in shock, especially since Hendersonville went unanimously the other way. I didn't even think to look at the Chief's face, I'm glad you thought to. Funny.
  22. Phil's op-ed piece, from the August 9, 2009 Tennessean:
  23. Four citizens spoke on behalf of allowing guns in parks, no one spoke for opting out. One of citizens who spoke on not opting out seemed to do so from the standpoint that if the council did opt out they lose the ability to participate with the state discussion should the General Assembly decide to revisit the issue. Council discussion centered on concern for permit holders 1) for their right and 2) that they may run afoul of the law should they arrive at the park (in their car or on foot) with school kids in another part and be in violation unknowingly. An informal vote was called (to discern the will of the council) and it was UNANIMOUS to do nothing! Wow!
