  1. I just want to point out something.... I've heard that FexEx/UPS only allow overnight service for guns because they don't want the items to be stolen, right? Well, if the item is going through their hands, how does five days via ground vs overnight make a difference? It's still going through their hands, right? Also, if firearms getting stolen is such a big deal, then maybe they need to hire more honest people to work for them? Should I be more worried about other valuable things I ship like my camera gear? Matthew
  2. How were the employees finding out that the boxes held firearms? Seems like a sealed box with nothing on it that says "firearm" should be hard to guess. The only thing that might hint at a firearm is if it's going to a gun maker or FFL that has the word "gun" in the shipping address (such as "Buds Guns" or "SIG Firearms") Matthew
  3. Been listing to Neil Bortz lately??? I can't say that everything our country has done in the past as good (such as slavery), but the ideas we were founded on are solid, good ideas. Too bad the stupid masses don't understand what we are losing. Matthew
  4. Ummm...where exactly does it say that you have to inform? Yes, the ATF in their FAQ on their website has that listed, but no one has ever been able to show me the legal code to support that. If you can find it, I would love to know exactly where to find it, because after some searching I don't think it actually exists. Matthew
  5. Went there Friday and Today and there were no signs posted. Didn't bother to read any of the rules. Security was pretty funny thought. The two guys I saw both acted like Paul Blart--very much "in control", but actually had no control. Matthew
  6. And who said booze and guns don't mix????? Will be stopping in the next time I need some booze. Matthew
  7. He may not have to give you a reason on the spot, but if you take him to court, he will have to give a reason. He's ONLY allowed to disarm you if he REASONABLY believes for the protection of himself or someone else. If simply having a legal firearm is reason enough, then I state again that we should not be allowed to carry firearms at any time. I think the key word is reasonably. I don't think the simple possession of a legal firearm is "reasonable". If something is said or done that would indicate harm to be done to someone, then by all means. If not, I fully believe that the LEO does NOT have the power to disarm someone. That goes against what is said in the law and the spirit of the law. I guess if you get stopped and the cop asks to disarm you, you should ask why he believes anyone is in danger/needs protection. I think that would be very telling. Matthew
  8. Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows if Johnson City Mall is properly posted or not? Going up there Friday night and trying to figure if I can carry legally. Matthew
  9. And BTW, I may just write the AG for an opinion. Of course, it's kinda pointless since the last gun related opinion obviously ignored the law. Matthew
  10. Wait, wait, wait.... there should still be some proof or an explanation that the LEO should be able to provide when asked why he disarmed someone. Your above thinking is along the same lines of I'm doing it because I can, and not because of any good reason. LEO's can just do something because they WANT TO (not legally at least.) I do not see how, if you are polite, friendly, etc. the LEO has any reason to believe you will attack them. The whole point of the law is if someone seems agitated, uses threatening words, etc. Disarming just because you want to disarm someone because something MIGHT happen does not follow the law. If we were to follow the same thought, then police should be able to search your car without consent because they "might" just have drugs, illegal weapons, etc. I understand the point of the law, (keep LEO's safe), but when no actions or words demonstrate an intent to hurt the LEO, them permit holder, or someone else, the LEO really does not have a legal right to disarm the permit holder. It's really that simple. I guess you think the whole permit thing is constitutional, right? Because I personally believe that the permit and the laws on where we can't carry are unconstitutional. In fact, the writers of the Constitution made it pretty clear that carrying arms everywhere was what they meant: Founding Fathers Quotes Here's one of the issues I have with taking away a firearm from a personal who is legally carrying it. In the US you are innocent until proven guilty. I know you might think that means only in a court of law (AKA: you are charged with a crime), but how is that any different in this case really? If the permit holder says something or does an action that makes the LEO feel like something could happen, then fine. But if nothing is said/done that has anything to do with the firearm, then how can they feel unsafe? In fact, they should feel safer considering the stats on permit holders. Yes, be safe, but you are FAR more likely to be shot by someone who doesn't have a permit than someone who does. Matthew
  11. I'm confused on why some of you say the LEO was following the law by disarming the OP. The cop never said he was disarming the OP because of anyone's safety. It was simply, "give me your gun." The law CLEARLY says for someone's safety. Something has to be indicated that someone's safety is at stake for a firearm to be taken during a stop. Taking EVERY HCP's gun during a stop (if the department says to) is illegal. It's that simple. Think of it this way...if one of us were stopped, disarmed, and then took the cop to court over being disarmed, what is the cop going to say to the question, "what made you feel in danger, or that anyone else might be in?" The cop is going to have to tell him something was said, or some action happened that showed there is danger (or might be.) Simply having a handgun with a valid permit IS NOT a sign of danger. If it were, then we wouldn't have permits BECAUSE WE WOULD BE DANGEROUS ALL THE TIME! Something else to consider is, is the cop were to say, "well he had a look", then what exactly does that mean? I've seen some crazy looking people and ghetto types in my lifetime, but that doesn't mean they are automatically dangerous. If so, 3/4 of the people on peopleofwalmart.com should be stopped and arrested for being "dangerous looking." All I'm saying is that the law states the needs a valid reason to disarm someone with a HCP. If the law said, "LEO may disarm anyone with a HCP and gun" and nothing else, then yeah, it's a legal disarming. Otherwise, show/tell me a reason. Simple possesion of a legal handgun is NOT a valid reason. Matthew
  12. I agree with you JTH that if you were acting polite, then there was no reason to for him to have disarmed you. Have you tried speaking with the police chief about LEO's actions? Maybe if it's stressed that the driver who holds a valid HCP and isn't acting strange shouldn't be disarmed, then they will make sure all their officers are informed of this. Or maybe we should get the law re-written that the person carrying a firearm has to act in a threatening way (oh wait, that's basically what the law says, but they are ignoring it!) Matthew
  13. Ummm...where does the law say that. I haven't come across anything in the TN code that allows that. I would be happy to be wrong, but please post the TN to prove me wrong. Matthew
  14. They send you the coupons if you do it online also. Got a nice discount for Lowes that I haven't been able to use... Matthew
  15. It's free to change your address online at USPS. At least it was a year ago when I moved. Matthew
  16. Lesson one, if the BG is holding a gun don't yell drop it. The only thing the BG should hear is gunpowder exploding about .10 milliseconds before something hits him. Second is, make sure you carry a gun that won't fail when you need it most! It's one heck of a story and hopefully something I will never have to go through. Matthew
  17. I would say that most men (sadly) could probably cause a lot of harm to me quickly because even thought I am 6'4, I'm only 145 lbs! I also think that too many people get their "fighting education" from movies and believe that you can take 20 punches to the face/gut and get up for more. If you got beat like people do in action movies, you may live, but you won't be getting up for more (not to mention the physical problems you might have for the rest of your life.) Matthew
  18. Yes. I OC'ed the entire time I was at Frozen Head State Park two months ago. The nice part about public property is they really can't ask you to leave if you are OC'ing. Matthew
  19. They may be friendly, but stupid. The Hornady Critical Defense (that's what I carry) doesn't "explode", it's just a hollow point. What it does is expand fully pretty much 99.9% in tests. They were probably thinking of the extreme shock ammo that turns to dust. Matthew
  20. Well, even if they were to cover it, it doesn't have anything to do with booze or parks "where children might be", so it wouldn't really last long in the media I would think. Matthew
  21. I think you misunderstood both what Ryan and I want. I agree with him that we don't want laws to be brought up this session that the media and all the liberals focus on and don't get passed because of the pressure-especially in an election year that hopefully will keep, and maybe make a few seats more conservative. I would love to have a no permit open carry law or even a no permit period law, but that ain't going to happen and it would probably only hurt trying to get laws like that passed in the future (not to mention that the SC hearing next year about Chicago may help us). It's a year where hopefully a ton of SMALL steps will be made. They are things that will hopefully go unnoticed by the anti's and will give us a lot more freedom in carrying and defense to the law. Matthew
  22. You sure? Seems like every report I see in east TN has some ugly woman's mug shot in it. In fact, there was a stabbing this morning in West Knox with a...ummm..."beautiful" involved! Matthew
  23. So I had this thought last night while talking with my wife. I wonder if a woman is less likely to get "singled" out by other shoppers or a store employee if she is open carrying instead of a man OC'ing? Please don't turn this into a CC vs OC debate. I am just wondering how our society view guns in regards to gender even though we all pass the same BG check. Matthew
  24. Turkey Creek wal-mart had probably close to a thoundsand rounds 9mm Federal and *GASP* 4 boxes of .380 FMJ ammo! ($16.97/50). I was going to buy a box of the .380 for my wife, but I didn't have $18.50 to spend on ammo right now:( Matthew
  25. So I met with Ryan this morning and had a great meeting. He agreed with what I presented him, bu wasn't sure what he (or anyone) would be able to get done this session due to how much the media whined over the restaurant and parks bill. However, he liked that what I brought him was more "underground" type changes that would not be very noticeable when compared to this past session. I let him know the biggest two changes I would like to see is that the signs for a legal posting HAVE to be the wording listed in the TN code with the wording depending on if it's banned on property or just a building. Also, make it not a crime if the correct signs are not posted where they are required. That would really help with issue of carrying past a unlawful sign. Matthew
