But it does matter in places that are publicly owned. Why should I have to disarm to visit my public library that is paid for by my tax dollars? I understand buildings like the courthouse being posted because of the courtroom law (plus, they run everyone through the metal detectors) but other places that are posted incorrectly but are public buildings. But remember, there are a lot of things that people say that they don't really mean. If he can't post a sign correctly, while I'm not going to "support" him with my money, I may still carry since he can't even take the time to look up the proper law. Matthew
-
Just remember that all places that "post" are not necessarily businesses. The library system here in Knox Country is posted, but only with the gun logo and crazy wording. So are many hospitals where you might be visiting a family member/friend. Matthew
-
Still not sure if when they say "both" it means that the symbol with incorrect text is a legal posting or not. I feel like I could read it either way. Please, let's just make laws more confusing. Matthew

Who is gonna get your vote for govenor?
macville replied to 94user's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
First, why are there a load of "*'s" in your post? Second, when has the Tennessean be a great source? They seem to be like every major newspaper in TN and run a pretty liberal ship. Lastly, how long have the republicans been running the show? Last a check, two sessions now. Haven't really seen bad things going down that aren't presented by a "D." Not saying that all the "R's" are perfect, but they seem to be screwing us over less than the "D's" have been. -
Who is gonna get your vote for govenor?

Here's the lowdown. If you are going to vote for someone first based on firearms...Ramsey is by far the most proven candidate. Wamp, while he says is strong on the second amendment, really hasn't had much of any way to prove it. So it might not be a wasted vote (I am sure he would vote for any pro-rights laws that would come across his desk), but he probably won't be pushing for any changes. After the crap here in Knoxville with Haslam over the parks issue, I can see that he is simply lying about being totally pro-second. Ramsey, on the other hand, has helped push hard over the past years and gotten us more in legal ways/places to carry. That says a lot to me. On other issues, Wamp seems to say whatever it takes to get into office, with Haslam (re: second amendment rights) right on his heels saying the same crap. Ramsey seems to be helping push good stuff for our state that's helping us stay on budget (evidently he was very clear the other day that the fish pond was NOT going to get into the final budget.) BTW, someone in this thread said Ramsey wasn't the brightest bulb in the pack. While he may sound that way with his country accent, don't let that fool you. Every time I've seen him speak, he's dead on. Here's the thing. You don't have to be a genius to run the government. If you follow a few basic principles, it should almost be able to run itself. But, I am also NOT saying that Ramsey is dumb. There was a King a little over 200 years ago who thought some across the ocean were too dumb to stand up for themselves. April 19, 1775 proved him wrong. Those dumb little people had the smarts to not stand on open ground and fire straight shots into a line of people, but instead took war to a new level. Just my thoughts. Don't know what I will do in the general if Wamp or Haslam wins the primary...they wouldn't need my vote, but I firmly believe in voting if I have the chance. May have to pull another McCain type vote. Matthew -
I use mine most of the time as my main ID because the address on it is correct while my DL still has my old address. The guy at the voting place didn't even blink an eye. I've yet to have anyone rebuke me for it, and I've had at least one clerk ask me how hard it was to get (easy if you are a law abiding citizen!) You can sense from people's body language when something bothers them and there has never been any signs that people are taken back or scared. Of course, it might help that I am a clean cut young gun that looks like he's probably a marine, but you never know!

Tennessee Senate Overrides Restaurant Carry Veto
macville replied to FlyboyLDB's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Guys, no worries about it getting passed. Like last time, we easily have a 51% majority, if not close to a 75% majority. There is plenty of time to pass it, but it IS frustrating having to deal with this delay stuff because of the budget. However, it looks like dear idiot Kent finally gave up on the stupid pond and the budget can go through now. Remind me again why is it a smart idea to have our lawmakers only meet half the year? I understand doing it every other month or two months at a time. But 6 straight months and then off for 6 months? No wonder we can't get anything done. Yet, the idiots in washington who should only have to meet about a month a year (how's national defense going? How are the states dealing with each other? How's the postal service doing? Okay, good. We are done!) Matthew -
This reason is THE VERY REASON that once kids leave school property, there should be no "protection" (I say that because any "protection" they have at school is a fantasy) for them as far as being around permit holders. The law is a mess, but why should I be surprised considering how many lazy idiots there are in this country now. Matthew

I am pretty sure that Anderson County parks are a go (OR parks are not). Knox County parks are a go, but City of Knoxville parks are a no go. However, City parks aren't going under the current law, but a Pre-'86 law and therefore if you get caught it's only a $50 fine (some are calling it a $50 gun carrying tax!) The idiot Haslam even touted how Knoxville didn't pass the stricter law and that was a good thing. Yes, the Mayor basically suggested that we carry illegally and pay the fine if caught instead of getting the old law dropped and allowing free carry. Matthew

But you realize that they normally only go 90 days in a year. Of course, that doesn't count travel time. But heck, I do alot of work for my own company in which I don't charge the client and don't get paid for. So they make $201 a day if you divide the money among 90 days of "work." Matthew

The only thing I disagree with Ramsey over is the HCP database. I would accept his view on the database (no public publishing), but would rather have it totally private it since it's a right and not a privilege (AKA: Driving) But let's be honest, why don't we publish the name and address of everyone who's bought a big screen TV? Seems like the criminals would like to get their hands on that info also... Matthew

Wamp seems to have no principles. When he was first running for congress, he said he'd only do two terms. He's done more than two. Pretty much it seems like he will say whatever it takes to get elected. He votes more conservative than Lamar and Corker, but it not nearly as conservative as Ramsey. I will, however, take Wamp over Haslam (even though Haslam goes to my church.) The more and more I read about Haslam, the more I am worried. He seems to have no principles, and when it comes to the 2d amendment, is a bold face lier. Ramsey hasn't had anything come out about him that I dislike. He seems to vote VERY conservatively, huge gun supporter, and a small business owner. Yes, he's been in Nashville for a while, but I don't feel like he's been taken in like so many good people. But the law doesn't say "premises", it says building. Last time I checked, outside was not inside a building. Yeah, it's word play, but I would guess a lawyer could have a field day with it (or at least should if you get a judge that has common sense and actually understands english instead of just pushing their agenda.) Matthew

I would too. This is where I read about the questions. Camp4u: Good forum, bad form. Matthew

Evidently at the Tea Party's gubernatorial forum Haslam got nailed over his membership to MAIG and how he voted FOR the Knoxville park's ban. Hope some people can go and help nail him to the wall again.
-
If you call being a part time politician lifelong, then possibly. I think he's be in for like 16 years, but seems to vote pretty conservative and still leads fights for issues (unlike our current congressman, John Duncan.) I would love to hear what people have to say bad about Ramsey. I haven't really found anything I disagree with him on. Matthew

However, just because your employer says something, doesn't mean it isn't still legal. If they do a legal posting, then it would be illegal. However, if they just say you can't under threat of losing your job, then it's still legal...just depends if losing your job is worth it (better question is...is losing your life because you didn't have it worth it...) If they are not legally posted and you don't mind the risk of losing your job, get a car safe that you can bolt in under your seat and stay mum about it at work. Matthew

He's talking about michie.com which the state website sends you to if you want to read the laws currently on the books. The problem is.....michie doesn't update the free stuff but once a year. So the question is...would you have a case if caught carrying that the official State of TN website sent you to a site that had outdated information? I mean, how else are you supposed to know what's legal and what's not without going to the capitol and reading the law on paper there? Seems like to me, if they are going to use a service like michie, it needs to be up to date if the state website is going to link to it. But of course, that's common sense, right? Matthew

Joe the Plumber Is Elected to Party Office in Ohio
macville replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So you are saying that an average guy who has a chance to make a difference is simply looking for free crap? I would agree with you if he had taken a film crew with him when he first made his comment to Obama, but he didn't. He got thrown into the spotlight and is trying to do something with it instead of wasting it like most lazy americans would have. -
You run the one here in West Knox? Gotta say it's probably my fav restaurant in Knoxville. Can't beat your all's BBQ. Will be glad when a carry law is passed again so we can carry there again. Glad to know it's so carry friendly! Matthew
-
I am not sure what's correct. It seems one of the amendments says that the sign with the TN code spelled out is the proper sign, but the second fiscal memo (dated april 13) says that a building would be properly posted if just the gunbusters sign was up. So who knows? I'm guessing the actual text would be more accurate than the memo. Matthew

This gets enforced as much as the 50% law gets enforced by the state ABC board... so pretty much doesn't. Matthew

Another victory (maybe not) for guns in bars....

Try checking in the TN Politics and Legislation forum for these kind of things. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/37807-restaurant-carry-bill.html -
That's great. But 90%+ of kids in school systems don't have a parent who tells them anything ANYWHERE close to that. Here's my beef. If you don't want your kids disciplined, then don't put them in public school. If you think only you should discipline them, then keep them at home where you can do all their teaching. Teachers, and even more so, administers, are so scared of parents raising a ruckus, even though the kids are badly misbehaving, that they won't even put them in detention. It should be your kid goes over the line and he's out of school. That simple because with discipline, it really is that simple. Seemed to work for my parent's parents, and for me with my parents. Well, I rather get nothing than this added crap. BTW, I don't see this passing anyhow. It's taken too long and we know that the Gov WILL veto it, I'd be shocked if he didn't since he knows a Dem isn't going to win the Gov race, so he's not hurting their cause. Edit: Does anyone know the penalty for walking past a sign that says no shirt, no service? What about no smoking signs (which I know changed two years ago) What about carrying past a "legal" sign? Matthew
