If you don't trust a stranger in your house with a firearm (stranger being someone you called to come work on it, etc)f then should you trust a stranger in your house at all? My philosophy is if I don't trust a person with a gun, I try not to be around them if at all possible. It's really that simple. Just because someone doesn't have a firearm doesn't mean they can't do something else stupid or make a weapon out of something else.

Anyone own a Taurus 24/7 OSS or a regular 24/7
macville replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Handguns
I've got a regular 24/7 Pro DS (decocker) that I've had for over a year and it's not a bad gun. Every time I've shot it it's gone bang and the recoil is not bad either. The sights suck in the fact that you have to hold the center dot OVER your target, so you can't exactly see your target. I have rather large, lanky hands (I'm 6'4) and with a Houge slip on grip, it's REALLY comfortable. Haven't had any issues with it, but there have been reports of issues. If I were to do it again, I would probably get a S&W M&P 9mm for $150 more or a FNP-9 for about $100 more. Both of those guns are EXTREMELY nice guns and made in the US. Heck, now you got me thinking about selling my 24/9 and getting a FNP-9..except I'd have to buy a new super tuck..sigh.. Matthew -
I noticed Friday night that the one in downtown Knoxville on Gay Street is posted with a gunbusters sign. Glad I bank at suntrust.

Is the trail technically a state park or what?

You are one of the reasons this country has gotten so freakin' messed up. Stop voting for who you think can win and vote for who you want. If we continue on the road of the lesser evils then people will NEVER REALIZE that within an election or two, you can actually get people who you WANT TO VOTE FOR as winners. Think about it, if there are 100 people who think the way you do and talk to their friends, that easily 1000 just to start with. Start voting your convictions and we will see a change because people will realize that true conservatives CAN win and WILL win if people stop chickening out. The next gov of our state will be a Republican. There is no worry about Mc-ex-gov-son winning. Sorry to come across as mean, but if we always say we can't, then we obviously never will because we never tried.

Which ironically was not correctly posted correctly until the new law went into effect with the looser posting requirements. Sad when a STATE agency can't even get the simple posting requirements done correctly!

Puppies with guns or puppies as a well worn target? Matthew

You are correct. What amazes me is that they were not removing signs because of the cost involved. Why does it cost ANYTHING to have a ranger go up to a sign with a wrench to remove the sign? At the very least, a piece of white duct tape to go over it. Of course, if you don't have a carry permit, carrying a loaded firearm in a state park is still a crime...of course that's also illegal everywhere else that's not private property also. This is where volunteers should be able to go help with "special" projects like removing signs. I would be more than happy to drive up to norris to take down that sign:)

I will say that on Halerian Hilton Hill's show this morning that in his straw poll Ramsey got 8 votes, Wamp got 4, and Haslam got 2. That's in Knoxville where Haslam is the city Mayor and signs are out the wazoo. What I am afraid of is that Wamp and Ramsey will split the vote and let Haslam win. Sadly enough, I'd take Wamp over Haslam any day (though, Haslam won't be as bad of a gov as Sunquist was...)

Smoky Mountain National Park carry question:
macville replied to frontier737's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If a building is operated by a private company inside the park service, it doesn't have to be posted, but evidently the Park Service suggested that they all post (which is why the buildings at the top of Mt. LeCont are posted I am guessing...) So that gift shop may be operated by a private company that chose not to post. It would be really nice if the congressman/senator who started the whole bill would bring forth another one that exempted federal buildings in Parks. And then Postal buildings. I mean, how does Heller not protect us against this crap? -
Could this be true the NRA plans to endorse Reid In Nevada
macville replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So what? Come Nov a LOT of things are going to change in Washington. Wouldn't be surprised if both the house and the senate aren't back in the hands of the Republicans (that doesn't make everything better, just a slightly better) -
Guns in Employer Parking Lots Bill HB 3141
macville replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Just because an employer says in your handbook that firearms are outlawed inside buildings or even in parking lots doesn't make it legal. Only a posting at building doors or at parking lot entrance make it illegal to carry. Now, if they catch you, but it's not posted, they can still fire you. What we want is a law that says basically that they can not post the parking lots. Building could still be posted, but parking lots would be open. -
TN Tea Party Assoc. endorses Ramsey
macville replied to gotigers's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Okay, there are alot of problems with your statements here. First, he is anti job because he wants to cut the size of our state gov? The size of our state gov needs to be cut in almost all departments. The only real social program, that I know of, here in the state is TN Care. That's probably going to get cut sooner than later simply because of a lack of money. If you have no clue what they are for, then how can you know that we can cut them? Or do you mean that you know they are a waste and should be cut? Matthew -
Wow, 100,000 people are hurt or killed every year by firearms. Where the crap did they get that number?!

Smoky Mountain National Park carry question:
macville replied to frontier737's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I hiked on easter up to LeCont open carrying and didn't have one comment from anyone on the trail. Even if someone saw me, what are they going to do? You are a couple of miles up the trail and doing nothing illegal. Let the worry warts worry and you go about enjoying your hike. At worst, you will have to talk to a park ranger some point for a minute. I have yet to met a PR who is not a really nice person. Matthew -
Pros: Largest gun org in the country. Do a lot of good with local issues if your area person is good about pushing issues. American Rifleman is a great mag. Always has interesting articles as far as I am concerned. Only $25 a year if you watch for specials. Cons: Won't fight tooth and nail for full second amendment. Has a history of laying down sometimes far more to get a little something in another area (can anyone say 1986 machine gun ban for traveling through other states...) Gun Owners of America will do more to fight for true rights. That's just my view.
-
Why not? Normally if you see a gangster with his gun out, he's committing a crime. When they catch one of those jerks committing a crime and find out he has a felony, they've got another charge. Nothing changes then. Now, if you think gangsters are going to open carry...I haven't see any reports of that happening in other states where OC is legal without a permit. Criminals these days like to hide their guns.

Considering how hard we had to fight for alcohol restaurant carry, I'd say there is absolutely no chance of it passing committee. Here's things that I think would be better fights (not that I wouldn't fight for that kind of carry!) Get into law something that says arms laws have to be proven to prevent crime to stay on the books. A ton of places like schools, parks, etc. would then become okay because there is no possible way to prove that those laws prevent any crime (which we already know AND CAN PROVE that they don't stop criminals.) Law that allows private schools (k-12 and colleges) to allow carry. I've yet to see a private school that is posted, so evidently they don't care that much about making sure people know you can't carry there. Law that requires a proper posting to be like Texas's (one official sign that is bigger than a 8.5x12 sheet of paper) and no criminal penalty or fine for places other than courtrooms if caught carrying there. Those to me, are doable laws. The only other thing I could see us push is instead of having totally free carry (not seeing that happen due to all the liberals in nashville and memphis) would be having free HCP classes and the license is either free, or super cheap..like $10. If your entire permit costs $10, no one can really say that can't afford that. Heck, I might even pay for some people to get their permit because it would cheaper than paying for another cop on the streets! Matthew

How important is the 2A to your vote?
macville replied to JAB's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Bingo! Most of our laws are based on moral ideas. Murder law is based on the moral idea that you have the right to life. Robbery law is based on the morals that stealing is bad. Rape law is based on morals. The list goes on. We as a country started sharing the same morals for the most part. Even those founding fathers who people claim were not "Christian", still seemed to share the same moral code as "Christians." When it comes to abortion and women screaming about their rights. I simply ask, "what about the rights of the person you are wanting to kill?" Normally, they will stammer on about how it's not a person, but I beg to differ. Science is only showing us more and more how it is a human (I mean, if you didn't kill it, it WOULD BE an alive human...) Matthew -
Here's the only thing that needs to be changed Property owners, including stores and restaurants, can prohibit guns by simply placing a sign at every public entrance announcing that policy. This is incorrect. It should read as: Property owners, including stores and restaurants, can prohibit guns legally carried by law abiding citizens by simply placing a sign at every public entrance announcing that policy. Matthew

Hey guys, wondering if anyone has a suggestion for cheaper FFL transfers in west knoxville. I have used coal creek before, but was less than thrilled with the service on the transfer for the money(yeah, the firearms came in, here they are, but I can't check you out because we have one guy who does all the transfers and he isn't in.) Even if it's the same price as CCA ($25 +$10 check), if they are willing to get it processed the same day they get it, I'd be most happy! Just looking for service for my money (exactly how long does it take to log a gun and run a background check...) Matthew

TN: Editorial: Guns in parks and kids' sports
macville replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Okay, so ONE incident in a year happens and suddenly we need stop carry there. I guess by the same resolve we should ban alcohol after one person does a DUI or anything else horrible under the influence. I mean, those aren't law abiding citizens either... -
How about we not post non posted restaurants unless an owner/manager/or sign has informed us that they welcome us. We are just going to get too many posts in here that say, "no posting at such and such" when we know from last year that the major majority of restaurants will not post. Do post places that were posted last year but are no longer posted. Matthew
