  1. Earthfare seems to be a location to location posting. The one near downtown knoxville wasn't posted the last time I was there, but the one in west west knoxville was. Strange.
  2. The problem is, our form of gov only works in a moralistic society, which we no longer are. The only way that would change is if media went back more towards Andy Griffith show and less towards porn. People emulate what they see.
  3. Let's put this in perspective. What if they ban all weapons? A place I recently had to spend two nights banned all weapons in their building. Weapons that fall under that ban according to state law tend to be far more useful as "defensive tools" than makeshift weapons like chairs, lamps, books, etc. And the thing about those makeshift tools are that you have to be strong. My wife until just a week and a half ago would not really be able to defend herself effectively with any other weapon other than a gun due to her condition (prego with twins.) She would not be able to judo someone down, or even kick them in the groin. Without a firearm (she has her HCP) the only thing she had left to defend herself was her fingernails. So the thing is, when you ban firearms, and many times is other weapons as well, you ban all useful tools for defense. And I am sorry, but if you come up against someone with a firearm, 9 times out of 10, a firearm is really the only useful tool. When places ban firearms, they are making people rely only on their own strength as a defense. I call that leaving us defenseless.
  4. I see nothing happening until lawyers stop getting a % of a settlement/award. I see time and time again where insurance companies settle for thousands of dollars when there should have been no payout because it was an unjust lawsuit. Basically, like that case above, the know exactly how much to sue for because it will be settled instead of fought because it's cheaper to settle than to fight it. So how do we stop it so lawyers are willing to sue because they know it's an auto settle? Maybe we should take one of Obama's ideas about not letting the rich make so much and just cap lawyer fee's on cases? How about $1k a case?
  5. Except that you are innocent until proven guilty. The media is VERY careful to put "accused" before they put the word killer because it's libel otherwise. Why should it be any different for the VPC? Even if he's convicted, it's not legal for them to say just "killer" before he's found guilty.
  6. Try VPC's website, you will get all the skewed info there. If you look at how many people people with permits have killed with a legally carried firearm in public, the number is under 20 people in the past 15 years, if I remember correctly. The problem is the VPC puts anyone with a carry permit into the same category if they killed ANYONE with any weapon, at home, in public, or anywhere. Even if you take it at face value, there's been just over 300 murders in the past 15 years from a group of around 10 million carry permits in the US. I think that number is amazing to begin with, and if you actually go down to what the real numbers are, the % is like .00000000001% of permit holders murder someone with a firearm where they have to have a permit to carry. But the VPC doesn't want to publish that because it would make them look very silly.
  7. If you can critically think, you'll notice their glaring stat that goes against them....the amount of killings by gun and in public. They include a crap load of killings into their stats if someone kills someone and has a permit...doesn't matter if it was a gun or if you needed a permit to carry where the killings happened. I also think that they are accusing people before they are convicted. They have the AZ guy in the mass shootings PDF as a "killer" even though, while tons of evidence, he has not been convicted. It would be great for someone to sue them over their libel.
  8. Except, look how many more cars there are today and how many more miles we drive now. My question is, do 100% of gas taxes go towards road projects. I am guessing that they may not...just like money put into SS got taken out and used for other things and now SS is going bankrupt (which it was going to anyway eventually because of how it was designed.)
  9. So legally, you should have any charges dropped because when you were charged, the permit was actually valid. Or am I just wishful thinking on how it should be?
  10. How many shootings have there been now? I've seen reports on at least two.
  11. I believe the intent of that wording is to make it so you can charge someone if they are caught carrying right before they commit an act of violence. For example, if you are caught and then they find a note that says you are going to harm so and so. I understand the intent, but think the wording could be more clear. Or, just let other laws already in place do what they are supposed to.
  12. I transfered a FAL through him last summer and was a pleasure to deal with. Faster and much cheaper than CCA for transfers. Too bad it's a little drive from west knox. BTW, ammo prices at the time weren't too shabby there either.
  13. I would say not because calling it a clip vs magazine affects nothing in reality. Whereas, by letting people know that you don't have to conceal, that changes a lot.
  14. The law as it stands is really not that necessary. Most things that we would probably want covered by it are already covered by Federal and State law. However, a law that said that judges and juries can not consider Sharia law in court, that would be good considering a judge somewhere in the US already let it pass in their court.
  15. I have no issue with the law, because it's forcing state to follow the 2d amendment closer to what it was supposed to be. Yeah, the feds shouldn't be forcing states, but the states are also ignoring the constitution also (most including their OWN constitution, like TN!)
  16. Join. They will send you enough stickers to hold your car together if it rusts out!
  17. I was there today shooting (video) and it is most certainly posted. But again, it doesn't really matter because I would assume that since it is called "UT" hospital that it is owned by UT. However, they do have the wrong signs posted because they should have the school signs instead of the posting signs for other businesses.
  18. Maybe in his part of the state they don't advertise gun shows like they do in East TN. Drive down the interstate in Knoxville and you rarely don't see a huge billboard that's in a bright neon color with a font the size of a Mack Truck saying "GUN SHOW". He's just an idiot that offers feel good laws for the idiots who elected him.
  19. We've got to remember that criminals don't normally use rational minds. If they did, they probably wouldn't be criminals. For example, the darwin award for the guy who went to rub a gun store and walked past a cop car. A rational mind would that's stupid. I can't think of very many stories where a BG went up to a cop and took their gun away. 99% of the time, the cop is wrestling the BG and the BG gets the firearm. Two things. First, there were questions asked years ago of criminals in jail if they would rob someone who they knew was armed. The overwhelming answer was no. Second, cops tend to stick out far more than the avg OC'er (unless they are a mall ninja!) I can see a LEO uniform from across the street and know they are armed. For an avg OC'er you would have to actually see the gun to know they are armed. Let's just remember that 99% of criminals are really stupid. The smart ones aren't robbing the quickie mart or CVS, they are doing high end crimes (see the TV show white collar.) So while we would logically think things there, logic for them non existent.
  20. In the past two years I've seen one news report about someone open carrying being targeted..and it was a guy walking down a street not paying attention. I still say that BG's have to see that you are open carrying to target you. I've noticed that most americans don't notice anything besides what they are focused on while out in public, and when you consider BG's, they are hopped up on adrenaline and more focused on what they are doing than noticing if someone has a gun on their hip. Plus, add in things between you and the BG (such as the krispy kream wrack in the quickie mart) and the chance of a BG seeing you is slim to nill. One thing to notice, there are probably less reports of people being targeted because there are so many less people who OC over CC. So there is less chance of being reports because there are less targets. Thing is something that in theory might happen, but we will really never know until we try it. Of course, the anti's said that it would become the wild west with carry permits and that hasn't happened either...
  21. Uhhh, can they do that legally? I thought the law was a all or nothing deal...
  22. And the Titanic wasn't supposed to go down either. Anything can fail. A gun with thousands of rounds can fail, and has a higher chance over a brand new gun. Steel can have flaws which will cause failure after time. It's important to look over parts when you are cleaning your gun to make sure you don't see hairline cracks in parts which could cause a nasty blowup. Matthew
  23. The standard M&P should be pretty much equal to any standard glock/taurus/xd/etc. If you think it might be too big, look at getting the compact version. I know the M&P 9mm compact is what I am going to carry next when I get the money.
  24. Love mine. The only thing that's keeping me from upgrading my carry gun is that I can't afford the gun upgrade plus a new supertuck!
  25. Well, he may have not written it, but it came from mayor@cityofknoxville.org and was signed Bill Haslam. See, he said people were working on updating the code. That email is approx 1 year and 10 days old. Has anything changed? No. My issue is that I go by what I can easily find. For example, our easy access to TN code is through Michie's website. That code gets updated once, maybe twice a year (they sell TN code books to lawyers so they don't want to update it too much.) However, our state's website is good about updating things on their website about changes in the law which our reps/senators may have passed. The restaurant carry law passing was up on their website within a week, while it took months on michie. But here we have a gov website that has the law on it, but evidently has not be updated like it was supposed to. So short of taking a trip downtown, paying to park, disarming, and spending time looking at the code on paper, I don't know what's actually law. I would guess that former Mayor's word would be worth little in court since it's not an AG's opinion. Of course, I could always just ask the Gov for a full pardon, right? Matthew
