  1. Yes, you would have been totally okay. This coming year it will have been almost 3 years that you have been able to carry a firearm in the NP's as long as it's legal to do so in the state in which you are in. So basically you have to be able to carry in the state legally, and you have to carry in the manner which the state allows. So that means in TN & NC conceal and open carry are allowed with a valid permit. The only restrictions are places where federal employees work. So inside most visitor stations and places like that are off limits. However, the NPS has been really good at posting those building and you will see a no guns signs posted on those buildings (they are big and obnoxiously obvious.) The only other law is no shooting in the park unless in self defense. But that's similar to TN law anyhow.
  2. I don't think it's even fair to look at it by a state by state view. If you took Memphis out of TN, crime would drop dramatically. It's not really about the amount of people in a place, it's about WHO is there. And some cities tend to have a lot of criminals. Utah is low because it's filled with a bunch of, yes armed, people who have the morals to not attack each other for the most part. It's the same reason if you took Atlanta out of GA, the crime rate would be really low.
  3. The article on Fox news (may have been an AP article) this morning said the gun held 7 rounds (1911 since it was a .45?) and it had one round in the mag and one round in the chamber. So he fired 5 rounds at his target and hit the target 5 times. Yeah, so NYPD are very bad shots.
  4. I would just like to see some more actual positions from him on his website...like what he thinks about guns and stuff. I read somewhere on the internet that he was actually a tea party person. And yes, the Dems were asleep....deeply asleep.
  5. Why do I feel like he is more conservative than corker? And if so, am I crazy enough to vote for a dem? There is a constitutional party person on the ballot which would be a nice vote instead of Porker.
  6. Oh, I forgot to mention that there was a guy in the Dark Knight Rises that had a max legal length knife on his belt. I found it funny if they were searching for weapons in purses that they allowed this guy to walk by with a large knife on his belt.
  7. Same thing happened to my wife the other day at the same theater. However, she said that if she had her gun in her purse, the guy checking would have never noticed (aka low paid employee who probably wouldn't find a 44oz gulpie in a purse.) There is something to be said about keeping it on your body. Pretty much any woman can conceal a decent sized gun with a holster like the crossbreed and clothing that's not skin tight.
  8. You would think so, but this happened here in Knox County a few years ago: http://www.policeone.com/police-jobs-and-careers/articles/4562734-5-Tenn-deputies-criticized-for-improvising-punishment/Cops are humans, so there are plenty of good ones, and plenty of bad ones.

  10. This really is absurd when you consider education is all about keeping kids safe. Kids should have to keep them off and packed away unless a school emergency happens (shooter, fight, etc.) Another options would to be give your child a cell phone that is not activated as it can still be used to dial 911. How many of us have old cell phones that would still be good for that? I'd say most.
  11. Which is why we need to get -1359 off the books-because it's unconstitutional according to the TN constitution.
  12. I don't know if the machine guns listed in that fall under LE and private weapons. I don't know of a requirement of LE Agency's having to register their full auto weapons with the government like private citizens do. I think that number may actually be just privately owned machine guns.
  13. Someone else said that also, but when I looked a handgunlaw.us I didn't see anything in their CO page about limits on city carry. The only thing I saw was no magazines over 20 rounds in Denver. Am I missing something here? I thought the state had preemption on the carry laws in CO.
  14. Only because we have memphis. I bet if you took out memphis that'd change. Heck, I bet if you look at any city that has a decent sized poor, inner city, you'll see it's got more violence than a city with almost no "inner" city. If you go to http://www.countyhealthrankings.org/ you'll see that Shelby county has more than double the homcide rate than Knox county. even Davidson has almost double the rate. Both of those cities have much bigger projects, which seem to be a haven for crime. Heck, 3/4 of our counties don't eve have a homicide rate. When I lived in Dayton, TN for 4 years, it was a big deal when there was the 1st murder in like 10 years.
  15. None of the Regal theaters in Knoxville are posted and neither are the Carmikes. I always carry in them. I hope they don't decide to post now.
  16. This exactly is what's wrong with America. We have become a nation of flighters instead of fighters (minus a few of us.) I understand that a woman may not want to take on a man, but there were no men there that tried to take him down? I feel like we've become a nation of wimps and the American spirit of fighting evil is gone. What's most ironic is that it took place in a movie where good is fighting evil. I know it was dark and smokey, but it was also dark and smoky for the shooter too. We need more flight 93 type people and less Jersey Shore types.
  17. And the media hasn't tried to string him up by lying already? There always is a ton of stuff introduced into evidence that's never used. It's one of those things that you just enter a lot of stuff just in case so you might be able to use it. I doubt that anything said would be damming because his lawyer would probably not let him say stuff like that.
  18. Interesting. The size of the casings spitting out looked too small to be 9mm, otherwise I would have guessed that. I just know that even if something doesn't blow up, things like hot brass can go the wrong direction. My wife has burned her cleavage before when wearing a v next shirt and has a scar on her lower back where a hot .22lr brass from the person firing next to her managed to find the one little place where her shirt had ridden up while laying prone. It's one of those things that is not worth the risk when eye protection (even regular sunglasses) is easy to come by. And this is coming from a guy who used to shoot everything without eye protection.
  19. http://www.wbir.com/news/article/227350/2/Mayor-Rogero-tours-KPDs-training-facility So if you watch the video you'll see her shooting (or look at the changing picture at the bottom of the page) a glock with eye and ear protection. Then you'll see her shooting what looks and sounds like a silenced, full auto .22lr...without any eye protection. I am sorry, but when the training facility doesn't require her to wear eye protection while firing a firearm, how well are they training their cops in firearms safety? A .22lr can easily take your eyes out if something were to go wrong. This just seems stupid basic to me.
  20. Doesn't matter where your permit is from in SC. It's legal to carry a loaded handgun (if not a felon, etc) in your car's glovebox, and I believe console or other such container. So yeah, once again we have another LEO enforcing the law who doesn't know the law (that always works out well.) The sad part is that most of these laws are easy to remember and these LEO's should be updated on this info every few months if it changes.
  21. Which is funny because by law they are required to post, yet if both parties break the law (school by not posting, and us by carrying) only we would be charged. It's a bad double standard that needs to be fixed (by eliminating the school carry ban.)
  22. image doesn't work
  23. Umm... I actually don't think it is and if it is part of the school it IS required to post what schools are supposed to post (which UT just ignores the law, surprise surprise.) My understanding is that the hospital is not run by UT but by some company.
  24. +1 to that. I love my SR9c. I have bigger (longer, not fatter) hands that with the little pinky converter for the bottom of the magazine, it helps me grasp the gun quite well without really adding any bulk to the gun. Plus, the super heavy spring in the slide makes it have very little recoil. Getting back on target is quicker than any other 9mm I've ever shot.
  25. If he's found not guilty, then wouldn't that be self defense (since the only two options are murder or self defense)? If it's self defense, wouldn't he be protected by FL law like TN where self defense protects against civil suits?
