1.   If he was so smart you would have thought he would have stuck to the more reliable 20 rnd mags than the 30. The fact that there were three partial mags show they aren't all that reliable. Dumping three, roughly 1/3 full mags, (not to mention the 3 empty ones) also shows that he still had plenty of time to swamp mags and therefore, low cap mags would have not helped. But then again I think in reality, not the happy land of feelings.
2. Okay, so this doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you start adding the numbers up.   First, he had 48 rounds left in the magazines and 1 in the chamber. 6 x 30rnd mags = 180 rounds - 49 = 131 not 154. Can anyone figure out a way if you combine 6 magazines that would make those numbers work out? Even if you count 1 round as the one he shot from the pistol to kill himself it doesn't work out. Unless, it's incredibility poor writing that doesn't separate the .223 from pistol shots because of stupidity or agenda BTW, has anyone found a 35 round magazine for shotguns yet?   And at this point of every shooter in the past 10 years wearing a "bullet proof vest" according to the media should we actually believe it? On another article by the AP, they used the words "huge arsenal of weapons" in the title. I was unaware that 7 guns (1 which only fires blanks) along with a few knives is a huge arsenal, or even an arsenal at all. Loaded words. Americans buy them hook, line, and sinker.
3. Can anyone figure out why AZ citizens can elect state reps and a gov that pushed through constitutional carry, but keep electing an idiot that has thrown them under the bus more times than not? I understand here in TN why we do it, but they seem to be smarter than most of our republican voters.
4. Ding ding ding! We have a winner! I am very frustrated with people from both sides of the aisle talking about "common sense" things. Our education system has so poorly educated people that they don't even understand what the word "common" means anymore. There is no more common sense because half the country doesn't agree with the other half.
5.   Yes, I know that, but they still don't train that much. The thing is that it's an actor, not an LEO or military person who is/should be seeped in it. A day or two of training isn't anything you and I can't do too. I know that after almost no practice I was able to draw a concealed handgun and fire accurately in 2.5 seconds on average. Switching a mag is even faster.
6. Try watching the new movie "Olympus Has Fallen". There is a scene where Gerard Butler changes a mag and is ready to fire in about 1 second. If an actor can learn to change a mag that fast, so can almost anyone. And heck, he wasn't even holding the replacement mag, he had to reach for it!
7.   Actually, it's still a good bill for another set of people...students with handgun carry permits. In fact, it's a great bill for them because it would make it fully legal for them to keep a gun in their car. That is REALLY good news for them and affects alot of people. Yeah, it doesn't do what it's called, but that's a big upside for a lot of people.
8. I don't think Vanderbilt should be allowed to have a police force as a private company/non-profit any which way. There's no responsibility to the public if it's private.
9. How about campfield for a very pro 2d senator? Heck isn't this his bill?
10. Maybe we should rename the bill safe student commute bill. Yes, I know it's not what people really wanted BUT for students 21 and older with carry permits, it's a huge step forward as it now would allow them to have a loaded firearm in their car.
11.   You could already have a gun in your car on school grounds anyway. This at least reaffirms that for permit holders. And it does help those of us that visit parking lots that are currently posted, but it does nothing to help employees.
12. There's an article today on the KNS <Go back to Gun bill expected to pass state Senate today > about the bill and how the governor and university officials thinks that the law as written would be more restrictive and repeal the current law that allows a non student adult to have a firearm in a car on school grounds. Maybe it's because I have a degree in communications, but do they not understand what "notwithstanding" means? Have they not read the bill and seen that it doesn't repeal anything? At best it amends a section to read, "Except as provided in § 39-17-1313,".  I feel like we should be scared that the governor and officials at institutions of higher learning can't read and understand simple english. It doesn't repeal anything. All it does is add more of an exception (really super clarify) for permit holders. A non student adult will still be able to have a firearm properly stored in their car on campus. It will also add that no parking lot in TN will be off limits any more (like malls in Chatty).
13.   No. They can't by statue ban carry in a building. They have to post signs.
14. Same thing here. Not sure how they got my email address unless gun forums aren't protecting email address like they should.
15. Good for the range. Actions have consequences and this is a consequence.
16. Ideally it would be used for skeet and home defense more than anything. I have a pump already that if I wanted to hunt, I'd probably use that. Does anyone have suggestions on where to look besides online since I am not finding a ton of used stuff online for a reasonable price? should I be looking at pawn shops (I always think of them having more handguns than anything) or other places which might have used guns?
17. Okay, after looking through the suggestions in here, I am changing my criteria some. While I would like a semi auto with a pistol grip, I am finding that most major brands allow for a stock change (not sure why I didn't think they couldn't!)   So I am looking for more suggestions on semi autos that would be under $500 (new or used) that are decent quality (I know I am asking for quality at a lower price point, but that's why I am also looking at used.   I currently have these on my radar: Mossberg 930 Stoeger 3000/3500 (read that the finish isn't as good on these guns though) Remington 1100 Beretta 3901 Beretta A300 Franchi I-12 (though I wanted less recoil vs a pump and this is a gassless system which has the same kick)     I currently have a Remington 870 that has worked flawlessly, so I am kinda thinking of spending a little more than $500 and getting an 1100. But the 930 is also nice gun too. I think I may be able to find a synthetic 1100 closer to my price range because there seem to just be a lot more on the market due to remington having sold more so far. But I am open to any more suggestions or good places to look for used shotguns.
18. So I am looking to buy a semi-auto shotgun for under $500 and looking to see what people suggest. It seems when I look at brands I know, they are all over $800. Looking for 12ga, pistol grip, around 20" barrel, and probably a synthetic stock. Any suggestions on what I should look at.
19.   Business owners could also put up signs that say you must not wear underwear on their property, but it doesn't make it legal. All they can do is ask you to leave and then it would become trespassing if you refuse to leave. I think we need a site like "gunsnoopes.com" for all the crap that people come up with...
20. Guys, form letters that are written to certain subjects are just what they have to do because of the massive amount of mail they get (I know this because my wife interned for Chris Smith out of NJ years ago.) But they DO tally up how many letters/calls/etc that come in for subjects. So that is very important to know.   I got a form letter back from Duncan, but it was really bad. It seemed like it was a letter that was supposed to deal with Sandy Hook AND gun control at the same time, but did neither very well. Fleishmann's letter was MUCH better.
21. My wife's OB said when she was pregnant it really wasn't an issue (except laying on your belly to shoot prone). Handling bullets simply means washing your hands after you load and shoot. 30 seconds of skin contact isn't an issue and breathing it in isn't going to happen if you shoot outside. Even in an indoor range, the ventilation should be good enough that it shouldn't really be an issue. And as far as sound entering the belly...well there is quite a bit of thick skin and fat. Her doctor said that loud noises from a handgun wouldn't bother a baby in the least. In fact, whenever my wife was shooting, she never felt the babies move.
22.
Better yet, start with public record requests for an email sent by a state university employee involving HCP permits... I believe it is a crime to lobby legislation while on the job for the government... I bet there might be some rather embarrassing emails you might find.
Do you know how to do this? That might actually be a really smart thing to do. Heck, you could probably find crap like that about all sorts of issues by doing that.
23. I can tell you what the leadership wants to do...either ignore us or screw us over by passing worthless bills that just make the firearms law more confusing all the while saying to us, "what? we pass gun laws for you this session." Nothing will actually change until we have leadership that actually lets our reps vote on stuff and not keep bills in committee. That said, I think those three things would be great. Parking lot needs to happen for EVERYONE in TN that's not on federal property. Shouldn't matter where it is. Should take away the ability for local parks to post...which ironically they are unconstitutionally allowing locals to make the law when THEY are supposed to decide and only them. And removal of the sign law as it's also unconstitutional.
24.
Howeve in Tn, basically in your house if you have the doors locked and someone gets in, your in fear of your life. If the doors are unlocked and they get in, no different then being at Wal Mart. Either way shooting in the back is a no no. As you can only shoot at a threat, once they turn and run they are no longer a threat and one shot can mean jail.
Where are you getting your info? Could you find the section in the TN code where it says your house has to be locked to feel "threatened"? And shooting in the back is not automatically a no no. Research the whole law first.
25. Yeah, there will be stuff like you are not covered if you are off your property and stuff like that. The good thing is that you can not be sued if you shoot in self defense. Now, I don't believe that applies if you miss your target and hit someone/something else.
