  1. After taking 14 flights in less than two weeks, I have to say that the TSA is lucky to even find their way to the airport. The inconsistency at which their machines and people can find stuff when it's packed the same is incredible. You gotta feel good about the security theater when the body scanner consistantly doesn't see the 3+ oz of metal that makes up your tactical belt (it's huge! http://www.thewilderness.com/tactical-belts/original-instructor-belt/) but thinks there's something hidden on your skinny arms where there is absolutely nothing. Or the pelican case that was packed exactly the same and it was a crap shoot if it set the machine off on needing to be searched. Security theater...and poor theater at that.
  2. FCC just voted today to make 25Mbps down, 3 Mbps up the new min standard for "broadband". Will be interesting to see how that throws kinks into companies like Comcast and ATT. Heck, I just got 18 Mbps via UVerse and now that's not even considered broadband by the government.
  3. So why does the NRA have politicians fill out surveys on where they stand, but not people running for the board? I want to know where people stand on constutional carry, repealing the NFA, etc. As a life member I am sick of people who are just interested in keeping guns for hunting or sporting purposes.
  4.   Why if you have windows without bars? If I can't get in through a door easily, I would just bust through a window. Maybe it would buy you a little time, but that's about it. Honestly, I believe a security system that you can turn your doors on at night is best because then the alarm will go off and the cops will get called. Of course, if someone wants to get you, nothing much is going to stop them short of shooting them.
  5.   50Mbps?? Why would you even remotely need that much bandwidth to run a streaming service like this. That's 6.25 MB's a second. 6 Mpbs will get you a 1080p H264 stream no problem. Heck, I'm on 12 Mbps and I can run two HD streams and still have some bandwidth for web browsing and general internet use. Plans like this are the way of the future. The companies that realize that today are going to be the market leader.
  6.   Last time I was there it wasn't. But I am starting to think that I haven't been there in a few years...
  7. So does anyone know if you will be able to carry at the NRA convention? Considering most gun shows ban, I wouldn't be surprised.
  8. I've been wearing 2 week disposable contacts for around 17 years now. Contacts really aren't difficult take to take care of, I just drop them in the liquid at night and pop 'em in the morning. I do suggest if you are taking them out each night that in the morning after you take them out of the case to leave the liquid that they were stored in, and use your finger to rub the case, dump the liquid and then rinse the case with a little fresh saline. I found out when I do this my contacts last far longer and are more comfortable. I normally get 6-8 weeks out of 2 week disposable contacts depending on how many naps I take with them in.   The other thing that's good is when you put the contacts in your eyes is to squirt some saline into your eyes to "seat" the contact. For me, it helps eliminate any air that might be under the contact and wash away any crud that came up with the contact or was already in my eye.
  9. Still don't understand why the NRA or GOA hasn't challenged the fact that paid permits and background checks are no different than a poll tax and are therefore unconstitutional since I have to pay to exercise my right to keep and bear arms.
  10.   You've failed as a husband then. I am only around as backup when we shop.
  11.   Yeah, I am kinda shocked that there's not a single Kroger in Chatty. Not sure why they are totally avoiding the market. It's not like the supply trucks for Knoxville don't come from Atlanta anyway.
  12. Do you not have a friend who has a semi auto who you could borrow it for the class? If I lived in Nashville I would loan you one.
  13. I don't drink coffee unless it's spelled "Kahlua", but my wife swears by her Chemex (http://www.chemexcoffeemaker.com) You can make it as strong as you want and you can control the temperature of the water better so you don't get the bitter flavor (this all according to my wife.)
  14.   No, republicans slaughtered democrats. A lot of republicans are NOT conservatives. Heck, the entire leadership team in Nashville are not at all conservative but firmly moderate to liberal. They would deny that, but their actions speak louder.
  15.   From home. I haven't stepped into a library in years. Knox County uses the Overdrive system for it. Not sure what the state wide system uses.
  16.   Uhh, yeah it did state wise. Both NY and MA passed laws in the wake of it.
  17. I am kinda surprised that no one has mentioned your location library for an e-book source. Here in Knox County our library system has a great selection of e-books (and audiobooks) that are super easy to checkout and download. They may not have the super new releases, but normally they start appearing on there within 2-3 months of coming out. I know if you live outside the big counties in the state that for something like $20 a year you can join the state system and have access to a pretty good selection also.
  18.   Yeah, that adds great hope for striking down a lot of laws in a lot of places. My question is, what about equal protection under the law for people from out of state? CA, like many liberal states, doesn't recognize out of state permits or even offer an out of state permit. If the other states are forced to acknowledge other state's driving permits, why not gun permits? It should be an easy court victory, but the fact that we just won this ruling after 238 years of being a country doesn't bring me much hope.
  19.   That's what I was kinda thinking. Ammo prices with the sale are still higher than the starting price at Academy Sports here in Knoxville.
  20. Doesn't this kinda sound like the same thing that a governor of a state that's initials are T and N said about constitutional carry the LAST time he got elected???? It's an easy thing to say and be true if you never let it get your desk like Haslam has done.
  21. I don't know why we don't solve the problem and just go halfway (:30) and keep it there year round!
  22.    I would beg to differ because I don't think the libs could get enough people out to vote often enough. Obama is the first time they've really gotten out the vote and the second time he won because the republicans ran such a bad candidate that the base didn't come out and vote. They also probably would be by popular vote and that could help/hurt conservatives. Honestly, what does it matter? Even the conservative judges, when you read their opinion, don't seem to plainly read the constitution. They were trained how to be lawyers instead of how to read english plainly.
  23.   If you did go to a smartphone with cricket now you could have all of that (tether to the smartphone for broadband) for $45 flat if you did autopay after buying a phone. Otherwise, you could just find the same phone you've got now but that works on GSM (you are still probably on the old CDMA network that they are going to close soon) on ebay and keep going. Honestly, you are probably going to have to switch to a smart phone sooner or later. It might be wiser to switch sooner. Life is run by technology now, and you can no longer avoid not keeping up if you want to not be a hermit.
  24. BTW, if you just want want a super cheap flip phone, you can get a phone like this (http://www.amazon.com/AT-Z222-Go-Phone/dp/B00EKSS7SU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414616729&sr=8-1&keywords=go+phone+flip) from ATT's Go Phone and activate it on cricket for their $25 unlimited talk and text plan. And when cricket says $25, that's exactly what they mean. Taxes and fees are included.
  25.   You really don't have to buy an iphone or other phone that is super pricey. Right now I am actually getting ready to switch to cricket because Verizon is currently charging me $13 more a month that I will be paying with Cricket for smartphone plans...and I currently have dumb phones on Verizon!   My research in the past week show that Cricket is by far the cheapest with the best coverage. It's owned by ATT so you get all native ATT coverage for phone and data  (including 4G LTE for data.) If you look at their regular 4G service, it basically covers all their voice service area, so you might actually have better/faster service with ATT than verizon for data unless you are in cities.    Verizon and ATT have the best networks by far. Verizon is advertising XLTE coming out, but you'll pay out the butt for Verizon. ATT's LTE is at least 10+ MBps, or over 1 MB a second.   T-Mobile would be next, and where you have service I've heard it's pretty good.   Sprint is by far the worst network. I have a hotspot that works off their network and half the places I go I have no service, and the 3G is butt slow.   As far as providers, this is how it breaks down for the prepaid type services   Cricket - ATT 4G Net 10 - ATT 3G or Verizon 3G Go Phone - ATT 4G Republic - Sprint 4G ($40 plan, otherwise 3G.) Boost - T-Mobile Virgin Mobile - I think t-mobile Straight talk - Either ATT, Verizon, or Sprint depending on your plan. Not LTE that I am aware of.   As for the price of the phone, you really don't need to buy an iphone unless you want to be super hip or need a crap load of features (which if you did, you need to just pay the price.) Right now cricket has for new lines the Moto G for $150. It's a very nice smart phone for the money. If you can't get an upgrade price from Cricket (if you've been with them that long you should be able to...) You can buy the same phone from Amazon for $199 (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-Universal-Unlocked-Black/dp/B00K0NRZSW/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1414616517&sr=1-1&keywords=moto+g+lte)   For your broadband, are you stuck with using wireless (cell/satellite) due to where you live? No cable or dsl available?
