  1. I'm thinking of building a DMR style 5.56 AR platform. Currently my only 5.56 is a 16" andI am on the fence about either going to 18" or all the way to 20". This would be more of a range gun than anything practical/hunting (but who knows) so weight and length is not an issue at the moment. I have done some research on muzzle velocity and the 20 is superior. Additionally, I know the good lord Eugene designed the 5.56 to be fired from a 20" barrel. However, it is much easier to find manufacturers with inventory in the 18" barrels than 20" barrels. Which leads me to wonder if there is an appreciable difference between the two for a low-no speed floperator. My usual go to manufacture is Aero Precision and they do carry the 20". I just wanted to pick the mind of more educated/informed shooters before I blindly commit to 20" just because that's the way of Stoner.
  2. Longest distance I have ever been able to shoot at was 534m. Honestly, for the Remington 700 (308) I used to own it was a relatively easy shot. One of those things where having quality gear can help make you look like a better shot than you normally are. Longest shot for meat was a measly 170m (Aero M5 308). But hey, that doe was 162labs standing weight and that backstop was phenomenal so I can't complain to much.
  3. I have only had the pistol grip M4 so I cannot compare to a non-pistol grip style. However, I am a big fan of my M4. It shoots great, the recoil is stiff but manageable and the pistol grip is at a decent angle so you don't jam up your wrist if you shoot for a bit. The only complaint at all I have with the M4 is the dang bolt release "button." I know some people make after market options but I am hesitant to mess with "the most reliable weapon system" in the marine corps armory as one general put it.
  4. Maybe not exactly what you are looking for per say. However I purchased a CZ Scorpion back 5-6 years ago for around $550. The popularity of those guns has soared and now they go for close to 1K. With the BATF regulations coming down the pipe I imagine their value will continue to go up in the future.
  5. Walther PPQ or Q4 (virtually identical). The trigger is the best trigger in the striker fired world. The grip is tactical enough for EDC but comfortable enough to not chaff skin when worn against belly. in my 4 years with the pistol I have found the two I have owned to be reliable, easy to maintain and accurate as hell.
  6. Hey y'all. I used to be a member back in the 2015ish years. I moved away for a few years and got a new email and now that I am back in TN I am back here in this fantastic community. I enjoy firearms of all kinds however my favorite to mess around with have to be pistols fitted with a stabilizing brace. I have owned a bunch of guns over the years and sold most of them but I still have managed to hang on to a dozen or so. Currently my CCW is a Walther Q4 Tac with a vortex venom and I love it. Hopefully I can contribute to the knowledge of the community and I look forward to learning from you as well.
  7. 'afternoon. I am contemplating getting an AR chambered in 45 acp with a roughly 8" barrel. My first thought was to look for Aero's EPC but that has not released yet and according to their agent on the phone will not for some time yet. I am not in a rush, but would like to get something before the BATF makes whatever move they eventually make in August. I considered the CMMG but I'm a little hesitant to spend 1,500 on this gun (I'd rather be in the 700-1000 range). I see there are a couple other manufacturers such as Moriarty, PSA, Macon and New frontier. I am familiar with PSA but the others I have never heard of. I was hoping some of you fine folks would be willing to share your experience to help point me in one direction or another. Appreciate the expertise
