I have always wondered why, with rare exception, lever guns are rifles and pump guns are shotguns. I have found a couple of guns that break this mold but overall (98%) they appear to follow this trend. So I am hoping one you you smarter folks can educate me as to why that is.

Essentially we would be in a situation similar to California with illegal immigration and Colorado with marijuana. In that the state and local authorities cannot arrest you for those crimes and only a federal LEO could. Essentially, assuming my understanding is correct, you could have a SBR and be totally fine so long as an ATF/FBI/DOJ/ABC... agent doesn't show up to your home and arrest you for breaking federal laws. However, before doing anything I would consult an attorney and maybe your local rep.

I completely agree. I heard the same things on youtube and rather than trust youtube with my freedoms I decided to reach out to my local rep to get his perspective on the law. Additionally, I may call a USCCA lawyer myself just for further clarification. In the mean time I will do nothing to the pistols I have equipped with stabilizing braces.

My current understanding is that this is similar to Texas bill regarding suppressors in that if the SBR is made, sold, and possessed in TN it will be "legal" in that it is not against state or local law. Additionally, local agents cannot arrest you for breaking the federal firearm laws due to other laws related to that; you would have to be arrested by ATF, FBI, etc. However, I am going to meet to my state rep in a couple of days to confirm all of this. Additionally, last I heard there was a decent chance that Governor Lee was not going to sign the bill so it is still a ways off from becoming official state law regardless of what the bill actually says and means. Once I discuss this with my state rep I will report back here as I am hopeful others will as well. Perhaps even a good call to contact an attorney from the USCCA's list of approved ones in the area.

Well, the M1 question was moot. By the time I got to my aunts house he had already offered her 2G for it and I could not afford to pay any more than that so it is in his safe his tonight. As to the consolidating calibers; I like to have a certain degree of confidence that ammo will be available without significant effort put into finding it. For example, 9mm and 45 ACP are found in most every gun store in America, 25 auto is not. 5.56 and 308 are likewise pretty readily available whereas 32-40 is not. If there was any single lesson I pulled out of the covid/fiery peaceful protests ammo shortage, it was to be able to capitalize on most common or likely to be found calibers. Additionally, there is the added benefit of cost being significantly cheaper to buy 1,000 shells of say 12 gauge vs 1,000 shells of 10 gauge or any other comparison between common "calibers" and less common ones like 243 vs 17 hmr. there may be exception here and there but overall, prices are lowest when going with the "masses".

Thank you all for your feedback! I greatly appreciate it!

Thank you all much! I do appreciate the tips. I have written down yall's advice and a cousin of mine will go over in a week or so to see how it is marked on the barrel and send me a picture as well. I do appreciate it!

Looking at purchasing one from a widow of a family friend. She is looking to get rid of a couple his guns and this one caught my eye on the list. I believe (if my research is correct) that International Harvester made the M1 in 30.06 and 308. This is simply marked as 7.62 which could technically apply to either as it could be 7.62x51 or 7.62x63. Is there any way to easily identify which it is? I haven't driven out to look at the gun I am just going off of pictures before I drive 3 hours each way to pick it up but I am not wanting to diversify my ammo stockpile anymore than it already is. I have 308 already and would absolutely buy it if it is but I am not wanting a 30.06. Any advice?

Good afternoon fine gun folk, I was at my local gun store today and saw a Head Down AR pistol which got me looking at their website. I am very intrigued especially with them being a TN company. However, before I purchased a rifle from them I wanted to see what you fine folk had to say about the product? I am not looking for a sales pitch just honest feedback about your experience with their rifles and AR pistols. Price wise they are in the same price point, even a little higher than, Aero Precision which is a company I am far more familiar with. So, before I spend more than what I would for another Aero I wanted to see are their firearms are worth the price increase. I do not mind paying for quality. However I do not want to be paying $200 more than an Aero just in the name of supporting a TN company that makes a mediocre product (no offense intended just a hypothetical). Again, real life first person experience and insight appreciated.

Back in TN after a few years but first time in the northern part of the state (Williamson and Maury co native). I am looking for a club/range where I can get quality training and range time. I know of Royal Range and Nashville Armory and others of the like down in Nashville but I would like to do some decent distances up to say 100m-200m up here closer to home. Is there any clubs in this area that meet that criteria and are open to new members? So far the google has not presented anything of note. Looking for a good community, good range, and good opportunities to continue to grow as a shooter and person.

I currently have a "couple" pistols with SB tactical braces. I am thinking to the future in August when the BATF is theoretically going to make their final (for the next couple months or years) decision regarding the stabilizing brace question. Currently, I "carry" my braced pistols infrequently but occasionally especially on overnight/weekend trips as a backpack/home defense set up. I am trying to figure out if it will be a huge hassle in the future to continue to use those guns for that purpose should they become NFA items or if it is really no big deal. Looking for those of you with SBRs to help me out. Appreciate it.

I'm thinking of building a DMR style 5.56 AR platform. Currently my only 5.56 is a 16" andI am on the fence about either going to 18" or all the way to 20". This would be more of a range gun than anything practical/hunting (but who knows) so weight and length is not an issue at the moment. I have done some research on muzzle velocity and the 20 is superior. Additionally, I know the good lord Eugene designed the 5.56 to be fired from a 20" barrel. However, it is much easier to find manufacturers with inventory in the 18" barrels than 20" barrels. Which leads me to wonder if there is an appreciable difference between the two for a low-no speed floperator. My usual go to manufacture is Aero Precision and they do carry the 20". I just wanted to pick the mind of more educated/informed shooters before I blindly commit to 20" just because that's the way of Stoner.

Longest distance I have ever been able to shoot at was 534m. Honestly, for the Remington 700 (308) I used to own it was a relatively easy shot. One of those things where having quality gear can help make you look like a better shot than you normally are. Longest shot for meat was a measly 170m (Aero M5 308). But hey, that doe was 162labs standing weight and that backstop was phenomenal so I can't complain to much.

I have only had the pistol grip M4 so I cannot compare to a non-pistol grip style. However, I am a big fan of my M4. It shoots great, the recoil is stiff but manageable and the pistol grip is at a decent angle so you don't jam up your wrist if you shoot for a bit. The only complaint at all I have with the M4 is the dang bolt release "button." I know some people make after market options but I am hesitant to mess with "the most reliable weapon system" in the marine corps armory as one general put it.

Maybe not exactly what you are looking for per say. However I purchased a CZ Scorpion back 5-6 years ago for around $550. The popularity of those guns has soared and now they go for close to 1K. With the BATF regulations coming down the pipe I imagine their value will continue to go up in the future.

Walther PPQ or Q4 (virtually identical). The trigger is the best trigger in the striker fired world. The grip is tactical enough for EDC but comfortable enough to not chaff skin when worn against belly. in my 4 years with the pistol I have found the two I have owned to be reliable, easy to maintain and accurate as hell.

Hey y'all. I used to be a member back in the 2015ish years. I moved away for a few years and got a new email and now that I am back in TN I am back here in this fantastic community. I enjoy firearms of all kinds however my favorite to mess around with have to be pistols fitted with a stabilizing brace. I have owned a bunch of guns over the years and sold most of them but I still have managed to hang on to a dozen or so. Currently my CCW is a Walther Q4 Tac with a vortex venom and I love it. Hopefully I can contribute to the knowledge of the community and I look forward to learning from you as well.

'afternoon. I am contemplating getting an AR chambered in 45 acp with a roughly 8" barrel. My first thought was to look for Aero's EPC but that has not released yet and according to their agent on the phone will not for some time yet. I am not in a rush, but would like to get something before the BATF makes whatever move they eventually make in August. I considered the CMMG but I'm a little hesitant to spend 1,500 on this gun (I'd rather be in the 700-1000 range). I see there are a couple other manufacturers such as Moriarty, PSA, Macon and New frontier. I am familiar with PSA but the others I have never heard of. I was hoping some of you fine folks would be willing to share your experience to help point me in one direction or another. Appreciate the expertise
