Agreed, the price of admition is too high for another episode of "Security Theater"... Doesn't matter if it's 5 hours or 3 days, I'm driving.

Based on the facts as stated by the OP, he's not prohibited from owning or purchasing a firearm, and from my understanding of TN law, couldn't be charged if he used a firearm in a justified self defense shooting.

Maybe because the law doesn't allow them to deny a firearm purchase for a misdemeanor charge other than a domestic violence conviction? Thats why we have a law that spells out who can't purchase a firearm, so it's not up to a TDOS/TBI employee to make a subjective call on what types of convictions result in a denial. My guess, they're misrepresenting the charges, or the arrest is on file but not the final judgement. It seems TICS likes to deny anybody with an outstanding legal issue (according to the computer) even if said legal issue would not prevent them from purchasing a firearm. A lot of older dismissed charges and minor misdemeanor convictions never made it into the computer system for one reason or another. My understanding is that this results in a large number of false positives in the TICS system. Yet another reason to get rid of the unconstitutional TICS!

Why on earth would a misdemeanor assault charge prevent him from passing a background check to purchase a firearm? I don't seem to remember that as one of the items which can disqualify a purchase. I agree he's hosed on the HCP in TN... Although I'd be curious if it would prevent him from getting one in another state.

What's driving the stock market higher?
JayC replied to gregintenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I suspect the federal reserve is to blame... Loaning money to Bank A at 0%, and then allowing Bank A to turn around and buy T-Bills from the government is allowing a lot of businesses to show steep profits right now, and is one of the reasons I think we're seeing increases to the Stock Market. -
Simple solution... drive don't fly... Then you don't have to worry about being disarmed and strip searched
-
I just curious why you think he won't be able to purchase a firearm?

I'm just curious but how exactly did the ADA revocation for life? Did he include it as part of a plea agreement? I'm just curious how exactly an ADA revoked your HCP permit for life, since there is no way under the law for him to do that, only TDOS can revoke your permit for life against your will in TN. (Obviously if you agreed to it in a plea that would be a different story). Edit: Never mind, just saw it was part of the plea agreement... Just curious did you completely read the plea agreement before signing it? If so was the HCP part on there or added after you signed?

Exactly... and don't even get me started on other professions such as lawyers and the government interference If you can pass the bar exam, you should be admitted to the bar... and I really question whether we even really need a bar exam to begin with.

Doctors visits are expensive because the government interferes in the market place. Do all Doctors need 8 years of education? Plus 1 to 4 years of a residency program? I'd say no... while some high level specialties probably do need that level of education and training surgeons for example, giving you flu shots, etc, probably don't require that level of education and training. Also, by the government limiting the number of "medical student programs" through government regulation - and allowing medical associations to create an artificial scarcities of doctors and nurses instead of allowing the market to determine the right mix... We end up with a very expensive system to provide basic medical care. Heart transplants are expensive, and would probably still be expensive under an unregulated system, but getting your local Doctor to give you a prescription for a simple aliment shouldn't cost $75 for the Doctor to see you. And don't even get me started on the government interference in the market of hospitals and getting their permission to build a hospital in a community. You'll find that the cost of a lot of "professional" services are artificially increased because of government regulation designed to protect a special interest groups already established business.... Under the guise of "protecting" people.

I'd be much more worried about hitting innocents beyond the target or critical airplane parts/electronics than decompression.

Well imho the problem with the Ryan budget is it doesn't go far enough to solve the problem of a bloated federal government. From the start of this country until the great depression in 1930's, with 2 notable exceptions government spending as part of GDP was below 5% (most of that time is was below 3%)... Those 2 exceptions were the civil war and world war 1. Which only lasted a short period of time above 5%... Then comes the great depression and FDR, and his progressive plan to drastically increase the size of government. Ryan's plan calls for us to drop the federal budget back to ~20% of GDP, while we should be working to drop the federal budget back to 5% of GDP (or even better yet, 2.5-3%) and reducing tax collections back to 10% of GDP until the federal debt is paid off, then drop the tax burden down to 5% of GDP. We lived as a nation on 3% or less of GDP for 150 years... why do we need a federal government that is 7+ times as big now?

Yeah, let's keep voting for those '2A supporting' Republicans

I don't think the parking lot bill would help you at all by itself... The way it's worded, it would have no impact on the law making it illegal to carry on school/college property. -
Man guilty of causing panic with unloaded guns in Orem mall

H.R. 822 is the National Right to Carry Reciprocity bill
JayC replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Nahh they just have to reword it... revoke all highway funding, or medicare funding if they fail to pass a state law that recognizes all carry permits. Altough so far the LEO nation wide carry law hasn't been overturned yet... so who knows SCOTUS doesn't respect state rights all that much anymore. -
Insurance companies require some places to be posted if a certain % of their sales come liquor or beer sales. Or to be accurate, they offer discounts on the insurance if the place is posted 18+ or 21+ depending on the % of liquor or beer sales. Also if you have an ID checker (but security/bouncers tend to raise your rates) at the door, etc.

Perfectly legal for 18, 19 and 20 year olds to purchase hand guns in TN in a private purchase, unless they would be otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm - ie criminal conviction, etc

MTSU Police Department are sworn LEO's, and I'm pretty sure POST certified just like most other police officers in the state... They are armed, including rifles in their vehicles. Why do the parents opinions matter at a college? Last time I checked, the vast majority of students going to college are adults. As for police training, vs civilian training, I will again point out that trained police officers are 5 times more likely to kill an innocent person in a justified shotting, than a regular citizen is in a legal self defense shooting. That is all citizens, so, the vast majority have no formal firearms training at all. Police officers have a tough job in an active shooter situation... like fire fighters they must run towards the shooter and engage them... On the other hand, HCP holders would mostly use it for defense, and would not go looking for the shooter... it's a lot easier to identify a target in that situation. The amount of training required to hold a 'fatal funnel' is a lot less than the amount of training required to clear a building safely. -
Free Political Speech on trial again in the Netherlands.

It's not that he acts like a nut... Ron Paul can come across a little nutty from time to time and I love him... This guy gives me a Hitler/Stalin vibe... big difference... I could be totally wrong... but something is just off when you listen to his speeches. -
I'm going to say this... how about we work on solving the root cause of this problem? Getting rid of illegal immigrates in this country? Instead of me having to show my papers anytime I want to do something?
-
All I'm going to say is Brown vs Board of Education and the Little Rock Nine... The federal government has and will force it's will on certain states that do not wish to comply with Supreme Court rulings.
-
We shall see in Palmer vs Washington DC, then we'll know for sure how bad things have gotten.

If you look at the zip codes (down to the 9 digit format xxxxx-xxxx) you'll notice that HCP permit holders tend to live in neighborhoods with higher incomes. While not a direct stats, it's easy to infer that people have higher incomes because they tend to live in higher income areas. Also, it makes sense from a logic stand point, if you're working a $8 an hour job it's pretty hard to save up $200 to get a permit (average cost of the class and permit fee)... let alone another $300-700 for a pistol and ammo. Because the state is adding a 40%-20% tax on the process, it restricts the ability of people with lower incomes from being able to purchase the ability to carry a pistol legally.

I'm surprised they could find anybody smart enough to operate the firearm at all... I thought it was a requirement to work at the Brady campaign to turn in your stones at the door

Everytime this guys name is brought up the hair on the back of my neck stands up... I don't know what it is about this guy, but something just seems off about him to me. Still no reason to deny him free speech.
