  1. It's illegal just like it is for you and me...  good luck finding a DA who will charged the officer.
  2. Unlicensed dealer would require you to sell something...  buying a lot of guns is called being a collector and never requires a license for regular firearms ;)
  3. If you want a union to come in and use collective bargaining to get you permission to store a firearm in your vehicle, I'm all for it.  I'd think you're nuts, but that is your choice.   Who gets to determine who is sound mind...  well mostly it's a DA's final call to charge somebody with a crime....  If a relationship with a Doctor is brought to his attention, and he has probably cause to determine the sex was rape, he should bring charges against the Doctor.  Then a jury of his peers can determine if the sex was criminal.   I can have it both ways...  it's perfectly ethical to place restrictions on the freedom of public servants...  We do that everyday on members of the Military and unlike Judge's they can't quit whenever they want to.   I'm not ok with random people running my life for me...  that's why I became my own boss, and now my wife runs my life for me ;)  It's also why I'd rather not support a bigger government because my biggest problem day to day is dealing with the government.   Now, in all seriousness...  all of this complaining about not being able to keep a firearm in a car at work, is because of poor choices made in people's life, and not the fault of anybody else.  In many cases the failure is caused because people simply won't make hard choices...  or refuse to live within their means, plan for bad things, or be inconvenienced... and would rather the Government come in and remove liberty from their employers so they don't have to make hard choices.   First off, most people don't think outside the box...  company won't allow you to have a firearm in their lot, why not park somewhere else?  Not an answer for everybody, but it would be for some.   Second, if you don't have enough of an emergency fund to handle unexpected unemployment that is your own fault...  be smart and don't let yourself get into that situation, make hard choices and get yourself out of debt, live on less than you make, and save up enough money that being out of work for a year...  I was raised to plan for bad things to happen, so myself and my wife have already lived on less than we earned, because I don't ever want to be in the situation where I can't tell a 'boss' to go pound sand.   Third, if you can't leave because of pending retirement, that's your choice, but you've lived for 18 years at least where you could legally carry and knew your employer prohibited firearms...  you've accepted that risk for so long, why does the government need to come in and rescue you now?   Fourth, if you've only been somewhere for 3 or 5 years... why are you still working there?  This fight over the parking lot bill has been going on for 2 or 3 years...  you're telling me even in this poor economy you can't find a similar job in 2 or 3 years?  You may very well have to take a pay cut of benefits cut...  and only you can decided which is more important, your personal safety or money...  but make no mistake everyday you're not out looking for a new job, is a day you're making the choice to be unarmed... and you have nobody to blame except yourself.   Finally, just keep a gun in your car and don't tell anybody you're even interested in firearms...  the chances your car will be searched are slim and none, and hopefully even if it is searched, you've selected a good enough hiding place nobody would notice it.   At the end of the day, this is a question of personal responsibility...  people continue to place other priorities over being armed to and from work...  and there is nothing wrong with that...  but make no mistake they're making that choice, nobody else.
  4. I don't have an issue with a Doctor having sex with a patient if both are consenting adults and both are of sound mind to consent...  I for sure don't have an issue with a Pastor having sex with an adult member of their church, and I suspect nearly 100% of married Pastors are doing so :)  A judge who has sex with a prisoner is a different story, because that is a government official in a lawful position of authority over a prisoner (just the same as a guard) and it's completely within the realm of powers granted to the government to regulate the behavior of people vested with authority over others.   Now, could the doctor or pastor abuse their non-government granted authority over others, sure...  and because of that the other Doctors in his practice, or the members of the pastors church may set standards of conduct governing those people, but the government doesn't need to be involved unless the interactions aren't consensual or one of the parties was not fit to give consent - minors, mentally ill, etc.    And employer has no legal control over their employees (in most situations)...  I can ask you to go sweep the parking lot dressed as a woman and you're free to tell me to pound sand.  There might be consequences for you telling me to go pound sand...  but you're free to make that choice in what you believe is your best interest.   Freedom of choice is the key, if at anytime you're free to walk away then there is no force in the relationship...  And the government should stay out of it.
  5. I'm not telling anybody to quit their job...  I'm saying we're all adults here, and as an adult you have to make choices...  and the choice to stay in a job where they prohibit you from having a firearm in your car.. is still your choice.   The 2nd amendment prohibits the government (both state and federal) from infringing on your rights to own and carry a firearm...  and the State of TN as well as the Federal government are still doing a lot to infringe of those rights.     The 2nd amendment does not control interactions between consenting adults, which is what the employer/employee relationship is....   As a community we should be focusing on interactions with government and how they infringe on our 2nd amendment rights...  such as prohibiting carry at the capital, in city and county parks, places where we vote, universities and colleges, schools, and other government buildings not housing prisoners....     Instead we're focused on dividing the conservative community over controlling the scope of government...  by trying to increase the scope of government to include a new protected class of worker.   It's not inline with the principles most of us believe in, and it hurts us getting other legislation through which would limit the size and scope of government, and have better support among other conservatives.
  6. Governments only job is to protect the life, liberty and property (in that order) of it's sovereigns (aka citizens)...  Everything else that the government does is an immoral and evil act.
  7. Dave, I have access to a number of insurance policies for businesses here in TN and IN... None of them require prohibiting lawful carry by customers. I've seen a couple of policies which prohibit employees from being armed without a licensed guard. If you have an example of a policy that prohibits carry by customers, I'd love to see the language, the insurance company and underwriter for that company, because I'd want to avoid them at all costs.
  8. I've got a lot of guys applying for internships who have an A+ and they're dumb as doorknobs...  so I can't imagine it's all that hard of a test to pass :)  I wouldn't allow single one of them to touch anything of importance.   Truth is the only entry level 'cert' I've seen worth a damn is a 25B MOS from Fort Gordon :)  Those guys at least come with a solid foundation so you can teach them.    I'll tell you a story from back in the day...  Everybody in the industry loved to rag on paper MSCE's, how somebody would show up with an MSCE and couldn't even turn a server on...  they were the butt of every IT joke...  and MSCE's made fun of A+'s because it's the only cert more worthless ;)   As a general rule if the cert doesn't require work in the area of study (3 to 5 years), doesn't require somebody else with the cert to sponsor you, and doesn't have a test that has a 50+% failure rate, it's not worth the paper it's written on.
  9. So, you've made you choice...  live with it.  If better money and benefits are more important to you than your safety and security, you're an adult and can make that decision for yourself...  I seriously doubt you can't find a high paying job as a plumber with a pro-2nd amendment company.   I understand your point, I worked at a anti-liberty company for a number of years, although I carried a firearm everyday there, I came to the realization I couldn't support that company any longer, and planned an exit strategy.  It was scary, but the best decision I ever made in my life, I'm a lot more happy being my own boss than working for somebody else.  And unlike plumbing, my field was a lot smaller, there are a handful of companies in this state that hire people with my skillset, and maybe 12-24 guys doing that work in the entire state, less than 2,000 to 3,000 in the entire country.
  10. You know there is a simple solution to this problem?  Go get a job with a company that cares about your safety to and from work.  It's not the governments job to make your life easier, you choose to continue to work for a company that requires that you be unarmed to and from work, nobody is forcing you to stay.
  11. I agree, but atleast removing @a and voting rights from a felon is supported by the constitution...  not the case with the rest of us.
  12. IANAL, TN law allows minors to legally carry loaded firearms including hand guns in a number if situations today.   In a couple of cases where an adult without a permit would not be allowed to carry a loaded firearm.  For example at friend or family members house...  where 39-17-1307 would prohibit an unpermitted adult from legally carry a loaded firearm, but would allow a minor with permission from there parents and the property owner to legally carry.   It's not a problem today...  you could easily modify the current law which allows parents to give written permission to minors to carry.   Yes, TN firearm laws are that screwed up :)
  13. There you go, there is the study, and it was MO not PA where the research came from.
  14. Not the study I was referring too... but WOW it's a study I've been looking for :)  Police Officers in Florida are more than 3 times as likely to murder somebody than a permit holder...  wow, just wow...  time to read all the details on this study ;)  I was aware of studies having to do with domestic violence convictions... but it must be my birthday :)   My post above I cite the police are 5 times more likely to kill an innocent over a regular citizen.  Next time I see my printed copy of the study I'll scan it in and post the pdf.
  15. The study isn't online you'll have to go to a college library to get the raw text:   Cramer C and Kopel D. "Shall issue: the new wave of concealed handgun permit laws." Golden CO: Independence Institute Issue Paper. October 17, 1994    I agree there could well be external factors on why the incident rate is so high...  but those factors would generally encourage unlicensed carry, not discourage it.
  16. The leadership is so far up inside the governor I doubt they would even allow a vote to override his veto if they were in session.
  17. It's not a hinky stat...  it was in a peer reviewed journal...  The stat looked at all citizen self defense shootings and all police justified shootings for a given time in a given state (I believe it was PA).   The stats are in percentages so it doesn't matter if police officers are per capita more likely to have to shoot, it only looks at the % chance of an innocent person being killed.   Now, the stat may mean something entirely different than what I propose...  it may mean that more shootings by police officers shouldn't be ruled justified...  it may mean that they are better shots, but need more training on when not to shoot...  it may mean they happen upon situations where they don't have all the information and make their best guess...   No matter the reasons behind the stat, at the end of the day you're less likely to shoot and kill an innocent person than a police officer is...  it's just a fact.   While we don't know how many people do or don't carry daily on their permit...  or how many people do or don't carry without a permit in different states...  what we do know is when a state passes an unlicensed carry law we don't see an uptick in shootings, and we don't see an uptick in shootings of innocent people.   And even if we did there is no need to get the government involved in what type of training one needs to carry a firearm...  the data doesn't support the need for state regulated training.
  18. But reality doesn't back up your theory....   Citizens varying from no training (most people) to a lot of training are 5 times less likely to kill an innocent person in a justified self defense shooting than a police officer which we know has a lot more training than your average citizen.   The entire point of carrying a gun is that it requires little to no training for an individual to protect themselves...   If you were right, where is all the innocent people getting killed in the 30 states that allow unlicensed open carry?   I think people should get training, it's a good idea...  one that I strongly recommend when somebody asks me about getting a firearm...  but I don't think it's the governments business to make people get training...  I'm just not concerned about getting shot and killed by a good guy with a gun...  Government officials with sovereign immunity on the other hand terrify me.
  19. While union troops were performing mock executions on state legislators to get them to pass and approved laws they didn't believe in ;(
  20. I'm telling you by law HCP permit fees are supposed to be used at fund the process...  and nothing else..  they've been audited in the past, and it's my understanding are complying with the law at this point in time...  but they use every excuse in the book to link those funds to the permit process ;)   We don't need to raise taxes...  we just need to cut government...  we could cut it in half and probably not notice the difference.
  21. Permit fees are only used to fund the HCP make work at TDOS by law...  It won't impact any other departments budget.  Those workers would be let good (a good thing)...  but nothing else would happen.
  22. I think you'll find something else in common, in virtually all the cases, they were helped out at some point by a federal agent or somebody acting on behalf of a federal agent.
  23. While I agree with you on the problems with RINO's in charge of the legislature...  Try passing an anti-firearm bill through the legislature right now...  It won't happen.  Many don't see the need to change the status quo in either direction.
  24. They can and do...  prohibit signs in your front yard...  and can have surprise inspections of your property including the inside....   HOA's are mostly evil.
  25. I just put up and antenna and said it was for local TB stations ;)  and those metal guide wires are a safety feature :)
