That is a big stretch under state law...  I'm willing to bet no case law over a denial for that reason yet...  wonder if it would stand up in court...   Added to my list of reasons to punt TICS into the trash bin of history.    

This is a pro-2nd amendment bill....  not sure why the tax break was there in the first place, but no need to keep it.

It *shouldn't* under state law, but TICS will deny if there is any case without a disposition, whether or not that charge would prevent you from owning a firearm even if convicted.   Yet another reason to do away with TICS.

I *think* state preemption likely makes the student side of this unenforceable, since TBR is a subdivision of the state and therefore prohibited from regulating possession of firearms...  not like we have any case law one way or another on the subject though.  TBR employees are probably fair game though :(    

What you're describing is already legal in TN and happening on a regular basis...  and just so you know a judge ruled that it was legal for apartment owners to prohibit the possession of firearms as a condition on the lease.   You keep saying the key word... choice...  in all of these cases you have a CHOICE to do A or B, doesn't mean it must be an easy choice, or a fair choice, just as long as you have a choice in the matter...     We're all adults here, and we alone are responsible for our choices in life...  you make a bad choice is still a choice...  and I shouldn't be punished for you not liking the bad choices you're left with.   Now the exception to this is dealing with the government...  There is no choice in dealing with them, there is only 1 zoning board, or electrical inspector for a given property...  there is only one country clerk you can file papers with, and one state of TN Secretary of State where you're forced to go do business with...  There you're sometimes left with NO choice but to be disarmed when dealing with them... and that is a real problem we should focus on fixing first.   As an employers I can dictate what you do in your car on my property already...  I can prohibit you from smoking on the property even if it's in your car, I can prohibit you from bring liquor onto the property in your car...  I can even make it a condition of employment that you only park a certain make of vehicle in my parking lot.  All of these are legal today (yes even the make of car one) but somehow I'm not supposed to have control over something like a firearm being on my property?   Now keep in mind I'm as pro-firearm as somebody can get, I have no desire to post or prohibit employees from having access to firearms... frankly if I  can't trust somebody with a firearm, why on earth would I want to trust them with money or customers?  But, it should be my choice....   Property rights are just as important as self defense rights, and I can't support any organization that will violate either one.    

Please tell me you have a single example of a TBR college kicking somebody out of school, because it would seem that would be a violation of state law.    

My property should be my rules...  I believe property owners have a natural right to set the conditions by which you access their property...  Doesn't mean I post my businesses, or even prohibit my employees from having firearms... but I should have the ability to.   Nobody has to visit a business, you can always go somewhere else if you don't like the rules...   I'm all for getting rid of 39-17-1359 completely...  I don't think people should be at special risk just because they're carrying a firearm and are asked to leave a business/parking lot/etc.   The only places I must go in my life that are posted, are government buildings (including schools) and on a rare occasion a hospital (which are limited by state law so there is no real competition).  Otherwise I'm perfectly able to avoid all other gun free zones, I just don't give the anti-gunners my money and spend it elsewhere.    

Well, count me as guilty then...  I'm a lifetime member to the NRA but won't give them a dime, I instead donate to GOA and SAF whenever they call...     I'm no longer involved in the TFA and won't support them because while they do a great job they don't respect my property rights and my rights as an employer....  I was with them 110% until they started to push the current parking lot bill trying to remove the ability of employers to regulate their place of business as they see fit.   Want to remove 39-17-1359 altogether, or amend it to have no effect on parking lots, I'm 100% onboard...  trying to turn HCP holders into a 'special' protected class of employee, I just can't get onboard with that...  I remember listening to John Harris rail against laws that provided special access to judges, police officers, DA's, etc a few years ago at lunch...  I really believed he and the TFA were a good organization to volunteer with and help out... just don't see it that way anymore.   Maybe they'll see the light and start focusing on pro-2nd amendment legislation that doesn't attempt to violate other constitutional rights.  

Is that the NRA's fault, or because of the Governor and Harwell they know they can't get anything passed?  

Wow, that is a hard time line to get it passed and signed into law...  but with the NRA coming here, it might be enough of a motive to get the legislature to pass something.

TICS needs to be killed, 40 million isn't worth it.

This is only the FDIC, FINCEN which is a department in the DOJ is still pushing the party line on Operation Chokepoint.  

Worth pointing out Comcast only has the data cap in 2 markets, Nashville just happens to be one of them because Comcast has little to no competition here.  Also currently business plans have no data cap, so if you only need Internet from Comcast switch to a business plan for a couple of bucks more.  

How about we just start with not making your local McDonald's a felony zone when the local cross-country team shows up?   As for parks, I'd strongly suggest checking ownership records for parks, I've found a bunch of interesting issues with Nashville Parks trying to ban guns in parks they have no lawful ability to do so.  

Probably best they didn't... or they'd likely be facing murder charges...  no warrant, guy wasn't guilty of a crime...  they basically committed a but load of major crimes...  the real question is where are the charges against the officers?  They clearly violated the law, terrorized this man and his wife and they haven't been taken into custody?

My point is, there is no inflation in providing bandwidth, other than labor...  equipment, lines, and bandwidth itself is a decreasing cost over time, not an increasing one.   Data centers and back haul providers (mostly telecom companies) continue to reduce prices for bandwidth year after year and they're all for profit companies...  why?  Because there is a lot of competition so they're forced to keep their rates low...     There is little or no competition due to government backed companies when trying to deliver services via the 'last mile' to homes and businesses....   Make no mistake Google isn't clean as the driven snow here, but it's in their interest to push prices as low as possible...  trying to force cable and telecom companies to do the same...  because cheaper prices with lots of bandwidth means more revenue for them no matter which ISP we use....     And even if you're not in an area with Google fiber, when Comcast lowers their prices and removes the data cap for Nashville, they won't be able to have separate prices for your neighborhood/town which doesn't have Google fiber...  everybody in the market wins.    

Supporting 1Gbps is easy to do...   1 Gbps switches are under $100, and routers which can handle 1Gbps are also less than $100...  and both can be found on ebay for a lot less...   If you care enough about speed to worry about getting full 1Gbps, then you should have no problems what so ever getting 1Gbps...  crap 40Gbps isn't that expensive, and can be had on Ebay for less than $1k    

Why on earth would the price go up?  You know bandwidth prices have been and are falling at a pretty regular rate?  The fiber is a fixed capital cost that should last for the better part of 30 to 40 years, and as we figure out new ways to increase the number of 1Gbps signals across a single fiber pair the cost on that is going down as well.   That is the trick Comcast and AT&T have been playing on all of us for years...  bandwidth keeps getting cheaper, the last mile of service (the expensive part of their infrastructure) was paid off 10+ years ago, and they keep raising prices...  on what?  you'll notice their profit margins on these services keep getting higher and higher.   For the record, Google isn't going to record what you do on the Internet, because that would be a violation of the Communications Act of 1996, service providers are only allowed to monitor traffic for network management, and isn't allowed to retain any of that data for purposes other than network management....     Here is a little secret, they don't need to be your ISP to monitor everything you do on the Internet, they already monitor the VAST majority of websites you visit including this one...     They have no need to get into the ISP business, except for two reasons...   1. Faster Internet means more use of the Internet, watching of more youtube videos, downloading of more Google play movies, viewing of more websites running Google Adwords, and more searches on Google's search engine...   This is the same reason they're looking at world wide Internet via balloons, and satellites because that means more customers for them.  Their goal is to force US cable and telephone companies into upgrading their infrastructure to faster Internet speeds for fear of loosing the monopoly or doupoly.   2. Net neutrality, they are worried companies like Comcast and AT&T will try and charge them lots of money to access their customers, creating 'fast lanes' of services and messing up the Internet which is very profitable for Google today...     So this is Google's shot across the bow of Comcast and AT&T, it's no mistake why Nashville was on the list...  it's one of the most profitable markets for Comcast, it's meant to scare Comcast into behaving better on net neutrality and improve their network...  You do know the Nashville market is only 1 of 2 Comcast markets in the country to have a data cap right?   I'm a lot less worried about Google tomorrow than I am about Comcast today.    

While this *might* be true, if it is whoever created the list is blatantly violating federal law.  The entire 4473 system was setup to prevent records from being placed into a central database because gun owners know the first step to confiscation is a central list of all gun owners.   4473's are destroyed after 20 years, and in theory never leave the gun shop where they are created during that 20 years unless the firearm is connected to a crime.  

Yes, BUG's are great things...  BUG = back up gun which for me means something the size of a pocket 380 keltec/lcp/etc

I think the point Google is trying to make is the cable and telephone companies are ripping us off left and right...  if Google can provide 1Gbps to homes and businesses for less than $100 a month, then why is Comcast charging $200 a month for 1/10th the speed?   Comcast keeps coming by my businesses asking us to sign long term contracts to lock us in, and I keep telling them to pound sand, I'm personally going to move $70k+ a year away from them as soon as Google fiber gets here, and cut my cost in the process.  Screw Comcast.    

I'd go re-read 39-17-1308 again, there are defenses for carrying on your property, residence and place of business... There are defenses for hunting and shooting sports... But there are no defenses to carry on another's property for self defense, without a permit. The crazy thing is, if you're 15 have your parents permission and the property owners, you can carry a loaded handgun for self defense, but can't as an adult.  

It would seem that TCA 39-17-1314a would prohibit the Tennessee Board of Regents from regulating the possession or transportation for firearms...  Since they're not otherwise authorized by law to do so...  and they seem to be 'agency, department, or official' local to the state of TN.   Might not protect employees, likely would protect students for being expelled...   Not to mention the outrage from the 2nd Amendment community if TBR expelled a 30+ year old student for legally possessing a firearm in their vehicle...  There would be a big push on the legislature to remove their ability to do so...  it likely would result in a campus carry law being passed in short order...   You'll notice nobody has been expelled under any of these policies?  Because TBR knows it would be a PR nightmare if they did.  

Do you have a HCP?  Then yes.  If you don't have an HCP, then no it's probably not legal outside your vehicle to have a loaded gun on their property.    

This extends 1313 to school property for non-HCP holders.   It would be a good law if passed.
