  1. Keep in mind that virtually all of these "bars" that serve liquor have a state issued 'restaurant liquor license' which means if they are open 5+ days a week they meet the requirements under the new law. The state ABC has verified all other conditions required under the bill for you. We have to watch places that only serve beer.
  2. I disagree once a place has been posted there is nothing you can do about it. We can and should as a community place pressure on any business that chooses to post. Requesting that all HCP holders email the business in question and complain about them posting and how that will cost them business as well as make their business a criminal safe zone. Also posting lists/reviews on websites showing which restaurant don't want HCP holders doing business with them... Posting negative reviews on 'restaurant review' sites telling regular customers how this policy makes the restaurant less safe, how it's not in a safe area of town, how their food isn't any good... This is one area that the liberal activists in this country do a much better job than we generally do... We need to take a page from their play-book and place reasonable pressure on businesses which want to disarm us and make criminal safe zones to change their minds. How many anti's do you think they're hearing from? Most businesses probably half a dozen maybe a dozen... We can carpet bomb any business with 200?, 500?, 1000? emails in a week... Causing the business owner to think the majority of people are against their move by a factor of 10x to 100x... You must keep in mind for the average anti-gunner they have nothing at stake in preventing you from carrying into a restaurant, they hear the news media and can't properly determine risk for themselves, but few are even willing to visit an anti-gun forum on the Internet over it, even fewer are going to ask their favorite restaurant to do anything about it... 6 months from now they'll have some other news generated worry to focus on. While the average HCP holder has spent 200-400 Dollars on getting thier permit, probably that again at least on a pistol and holster to carry... Now fewer bother to be active on websites such as TGO and TFA but it gives those of us the ability to coordinate and express our views that criminal safe zones aren't a good business plan. I know for a fact that certain at large councilmembers received 100's of pro-carry emails in a matter of a couple of days, while only receiving a couple dozen anti-carry emails in that same period. We can have an impact on businesses who incorrectly choose to make their establishment a criminal safe zone.
  3. As Fallguy said, to get the bill passed the State Parks won't remove the old signs but will replace them over time with new signs so the bill won't impact the parks departments fiscal budget. At the same time local parks will be posting signs as well, which will have the impact of preventing you from carrying in the park. Great care will have to be taken to know if the park you're visiting is a state or local park because both my be posted but only in state parks may you ignore the sign and legally carry. Hopefully we'll be able to come back in the next year or two and remove the local parks exception.
  4. I'd be looking for a new bank the next day...
  5. +1 4% of the general population, much larger chunk of the 21+ population... Nobody in this economy wants to upset what could be a 5-7% bump in sales, or worse cause a 5-7% drop in sales.
  6. I believe it's closer to 4% per Senator Jackson's speech right before the Senate voted to override the Governors veto.
  7. I'd suggest contacting the corporate headquarters of TGI Friday and complaining. This very well maybe a local manager who took it upon themselves to post the sign without proper approval.
  8. There is a small vocal number of restaurant owners who are behind the push for this ordinance to block carry with beer permits. There maybe a number of 'me too' council members who like being on TV and getting calls from the paper, but there are some restaurant owners (a very small number) who are pushing for this behind the scenes... My personal belief is they don't want to allow carry but at the same time don't want to loose business to those restaurant which don't post.
  9. National Forest was covered in the parks bill, and should be legal to carry in today. You should check with a Ranger to verify there are not federal regulations or laws prohibiting carry, if not then you're good to go under state law now.
  10. I believe carry in the Cherokee National Forest is now legal under this bill. You should check with a Cherokee Ranger(?) to verify there are not federal regulations/laws barring carry first, but it's my understanding that State law is what prohibited carry on the NFs here in TN and the parks bill removes that limitation for HCP. Also, it should allow you to carry a load long gun in the vehicle as well under the long gun bill which was signed into law today. The WMA law hopefully we get passed before this session is over.
  11. WMAs aren't covered in this bill... There is another bill which hopefully will get passed in the next week or so that will allow carry in WMAs.
  12. The Rangers claim that road is part of the National Park not a federally funded or state funded road... If they are correct carry is not legal until Feb of 2010 (when the Federal NP carry law goes into effect).
  13. The parts of the parks bill went into effect when it was signed... - Local cities and counties may pass resolutions to ban carry in local parks - went into effect when the law was signed. - Carry in state parks and national 'areas' not prohibited by federal law - went into effect when the law passed. - Local parks carry - goes into effect Sept 1st.
  14. Both state parks carry and long gun carry go into effect today when it was signed by the Governor. Senate Amendment 2 on the Parks bill, and Senate Amendment 3 on the long gun bill. I've provided both the text and links to these amendments in several posts. No need for somebody going to a state park or the range tomorrow to choose not exercise carry under these laws... You're right it might take awhile for law enforcement to become aware of these new provisions... carry a copy of the law and amendment in your vehicle wouldn't hurt... I still hear police officers who think it's illegal to carry into Krogers because they sell beer.
  15. I'm sorry but no, it's today, I even posted a link to the Senate Amendment text changing the date from July 1st to as soon as the bill becomes law. Both state parks carry AND long gun transport became effective when signed into law by the Governor today.
  16. Nailed it... Just remember some of the federal land will be allowed right away, since it's not disallowed by Federal law. Depends on the agency who controls the land in question.
  17. Need to request that some of the pro-gun council members request a roll call vote on this resolution instead of a voice vote.
  18. Sorry this post shows the text from Senate Amendment 3 on the long guns carry bill... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/298235-post122.html It also goes into effect today...
  19. Negative, it's legal to start transporting loaded firearms with a HCP today. See this post for the details... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/22583-urgent-possible-veto-parks-bill-13.html#post298235 Senate Amendment removed the July 1st date and replaced it with the "starts as soon as it's signed" wording.
  20. I agree it's confusing... but all of this mess ends in a few months... except local parks which we'll have to go back and remove the exception sometime in the future (hopefully next year)...
  21. It's my understanding the federal amendment to the credit bill will only allow carry in National Parks where not prohibited by state law... Either way, hb0716 removes any roadblock to National Parks carry in TN once the Credit Card bill goes into effect in Feb of 2010. As for the long gun bill, you're mistaken... Please see this post for the details: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/22583-urgent-possible-veto-parks-bill-13.html#post298235 Again, the long guns bill goes into effect today, not July 1st, not in 40 days.
  22. You're right I should have stated, sites managed by the Forestry Service, vs calling it a National Forest... either way I believe it has been state law up until this point preventing us from carrying at LBL not a Federal law or regulation since hunting is allowed at LBL.
  23. The Legislature website can be confusing... Yes I'm sure... Tennessee General Assembly Legislation You'll notice on May 26th of the House history where the House approved Senate Amendments 2+3 and the next day the bill was signed by the speaker. Here is a link to Senate Amendment 2: (Amendment 3 is a non-issue in this discussion it only removes WMA's from the approved list.) http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/106/Amend/SA0483.pdf Section 5b is the important one in this case, as you can see it states that carry in state/national areas defined in Section 1 (National Parks being the exception until feb 2010 because of Federal regulation) goes into effect the day the law is passed. So with the Governor signing this bill into law, that means as of today State Parks are legal to carry in.
  24. You're right... but this was a key for National PArks in TN to be allowed... The current federal law on National Parks carry requires the state the park is in to allow carry in the National Parks... So, this step was needed to allow carry in National Parks in Feb 2010... You'll also note I quoted 'parks' trying to save from having to type out all the different 'areas' which are covered. For example National Forests would go into effect today, there is a whole list of other sites which depending on the federal agency who runs them are open today, or will be open in Feb of 2010. I'm going to call the LBL ranger office on Monday to confirm there are no Federal regulations/laws barring carry, but i think we should be able to carry there now, since out west it's state law that allows carry on NF run sites.
