Folks who have $1000+ on average to get a license with the state are generally going to have a higher earnings and have more disposable income. It is an assumption but if you look at the mean income for the state and the mean income for the zip codes that HCP holders live in, you'll see it's a pretty safe assumption. Let me be clear I'm not suggesting that we're rich or anything like that, but that compared to the population as a whole, more likely to have more disposable income.

I disagree taking the high road is what leads to stupid rulings and lawsuits like this... People who are for taking our rights away should be held accountable for their actions... If you vote against 2nd amendment or pro-hcp legislation you need to have your political career ended, if you file a lawsuit to stop all citizens from carrying, your business needs to suffer, and if you support lobbyists to try and keep pro-gun laws from being passed your name and businesses name should be on a list. This IS how the other side fights these battles, it's time for us to get smart and not forget who is trying to keep our rights from being restored.

David, While I'm in agreement that targeting all restaurant is a bad idea, because the vast majority of restaurant owners are either pro-2nd amendment or are at least not anti-2nd amendment. BUT there are a number of businesses, police chiefs and lawmakers, which did actively campaign against this law, and did everything in their power to stop this law from going into effect that should be held accountable for either activities. And with those folks, I'm all for a targeted boycott, or trying to prevent them from being re-elected, or pushing for their termination as police chief. And since these folks actively supported anti-2nd amendment lawsuits or actively fought pro-hcp legislation, I think every LEGAL avenue to cost them money, ruin their businesses reputation, or remove them from public office should be used by members of the HCP community.

And the truth is that because of mean income and lack of a criminal history, and the indication that HCP's have more disposable income they likely eat out at restaurants which serve beer and liquor more often than the average citizen. I'm not saying it's gone to make a ton of a difference but it will make a slight difference. Also keep in mind that the 4% figure is based on total population, once you factor out kids that number becomes much larger.

I disagree the vast majority of TNHA probably don't even know about the lawsuit, let alone support it. Keep in mind this is the same group that said 86% of their member restaurants couldn't even be bothered to answer the survey they sent out about it. What good does it do going after all restaurants when the vast majority didn't post, aren't in any way shape or form parties to the lawsuit, nor did anything negative? A phone campaign, or something targeting the TNHA could have a drastic impact, if a number of their members woke up, or were encouraged to force a change at TNHA, then their lobbyist could be supporting new legislation next session, and the loony left guys like Rayburn would be left to pound the halls without the big $$$ support of the TNHA. The TNHA are the folks who need to be targeting because their money has actively gone to support people fighting pro-2nd carry legislation for years. I'm happy to help in anyway towards a rational target, but going after people who largely supported our rights isn't the right idea IMHO.

Hex, You and I are on the same page most of the time, but this isn't a good idea. I understand your frustration, and a plan of action does need to happen, but you need to refocus your anger on the people responsible for this. Just because a business didn't go out of their way to file a friend of the court brief doesn't mean they're anti-2nd amendment, just as the vast majority of HCP holders didn't show up at the hearing yesterday. There are business which funded this lawsuit, and business who are members of the hospitality association which through their inaction supported this nonsense, but it's a very small group of people. I think some where around 800-1000 restaurants, think about how many restaurants with liquor licenses are in TN and how small that number is. There are things we can do to boycott the trouble makers and the people who through direction inaction support those trouble makers. But the vast majority of restaurant owners don't have anything more to do with this than the population as a whole.

I'm sorry but a 4% drop in sales will be noticed on weekly reports in most chain restaurants and on monthly reports in even the smallest family restaurant. There able to tell you exactly how much the smoking ban cost them in sales. I'm in agreement that a general boycott of all restaurants won't work, just a targetted one will, focus on the hospitality association members, they funded this lawsuit, we should focus on putting pressure on those business. The vast majority of restaurant owners don't belong to the hospitality association and have done nothing to offend the 2nd amendment crowd or HCP.

I think you're under estimating how bad the current economy is... 4% drop in sales would like put some restaurants out of business in short order. You have to remember that most of these places have already seen a drop in sales from the smoking ban, a drop in sales from the economy, in some cases restaurants are off 20% already from 06 and 07 sales. Add another 4+% to the mix and it would cause some serious issues with their cash flow.

I think you'd be better to start with the restaurants who are members "hospitality association"... The fact is that only a small fraction of restaurants are, the vast majority didn't post, and don't belong to a group that caused this lawsuit. Your best bet is to pressure the remaining member restaurants to quit or force a change in policy.

No, I already made my mind up about the guy before the last election... He's not a true conservative, he's already proven that time and time again... Note: See the youtube video of the Governor giving ideas on what taxes to increase that he would support and sign into law. A REAL conservative would have vetoed any tax or spending increases and pushed for the reduction in the size of government to meet any short falls in the budget. He grew the size of government over 50% during his 2 terms in office, while not as bad as other people (Obama) it's the wrong direction. Huckabee is a perfect example of a politician who sees the Tea Party movement as a way to get himself elected, not somebody who is willing to stand by his core values when it's hard.

I don't like President Obama is doing anymore than I liked what President Bush was doing in the White House... I am fully against the Democrate parties progressive agenda, I think it's bad for the country and we should be fighting it... But that doesn't mean the current crop of Republican 'progressive-light' is any better... They're both sides of the same coin, and it's a black penny... I for one want to trade the entire coin in... not just flip it over and think we've somehow fixed the problem... BTW, Huckabee agrees on most of these crazy ideas that the current President is passing... Climate Change - check, believes we need legislation to reduce CO2 emissions... The issue is not a fundamental one, but a question of how to go about it to pay back his big donating supporters... but they both want to force us to change the way we live. I'm sorry but he's not the "change" we're looking for, just more of the same at a slightly slower pace than the "change" we got a year ago.

Look at the dates, then go back and look at the laws he signed as Governor... I agree he talks to the talk when he was planning on running for President... He probably would be slightly better than our current President on gun control... but he's not the true conservative he makes himself out to be... It's time to expect more from the people that we elect and Mike Huckabee is a nice guy, but still a two faced politician saying what he needs to to get elected. Ask him what he'd do about the BATF? Ask him would be issue and executive order to allow carry on all federal land? Ask him if he would support cutting off federal funds to Washington DC government until they removed the anti-2nd amendment gun control laws? He only started talking about being pro-2nd amendment stance in his run up to the Presidential Election in 2007, look at his record as Governor and all the silly pro gun control laws which were passed and he signed as Governor. Also as late as 2006 Mike Huckabee was getting speaking fees from PRO CONTROL GROUPS who were advocating reducing access to guns would reduce gun violence. Stem cell, gun control groups paid Huckabee - Democratic Underground Oh yeah while he was at it, he was also taking money from pro stem cell research groups as well is 2006. I'm sorry, I'll agree he's a nice guy, and I wouldn't mind sitting down with him for dinner one night... But he is not a conservative in anyway shape or form of the word. This guy like McCain would have supported the vast majority of the 'change' Obama has brought us, only maybe a little slower. He's just more of the same, and would not result in the real change we need is Washington... He's just a politician who will change his core values to what is most advantageous and will get him elected.

I'm not sure what you mean by a float trip... If it's intertubes or a personal boat you'll be fine. If it's a commercial operation and they server liquor or beer it's likely prohibited.

The short answer, yes. The long answer, it depends on the type of license they are operating under... but if they don't serve food 5 days a week, it's a no carry zone.

Their primary business isn't selling food, and they likely don't sell food 5 days a week... The Ryman likely is not operating on a Restaurant Liquor License, but one of the special 'other' types... The restaurant carry law likely does not cover it. Although I haven't been there so I can't tell you either way for sure.

The Ryman may be illegal to carry in... I've not been in years but to they have a bar there? If so they're not covered by the restaurant carry law.

I'm not sure the knife was technically illegal, more than the officer didn't notice it on a pat down, but I maybe incorrect. The knife he describes sounds like it does not qualify as a weapon under NC law. And I agree, it might have been easier to just go along with the request, but it should be your choice to be nice and go along with an unlawful request, not be arrested and harassed if you choose not to comply with an unlawful request.

Those signs are still required under the law, they still bug you about having them posted when you get an inspection from the beer or abc folks. But they do not prohibit carry for HCP holders unless it's a properly worded sign under 39-17-1359. I'd hate to see a restaurant get posted here as anti-2nd because they have one of these signs up, they're still required by law.

I won't disagree with you that somebody has been charged in this way, but I can't find a single case of conviction in TN for DOC of a HCP permit holder, are you aware of a single case that the DA even tried to move forward, or are the charges getting dropped shortly afterwords? DOC is a bad law to begin with and we'd do well to get it remove by the legislature.

Not to thread hi-jack, but I strongly disagree with your statement. It is for sure no treason to think nor state that this country is on the wrong path and it's best days may very well be behind us if we don't get our act together. I'm not even sure that it's unpatriotic to say that, you can feel concern for the direction of the country but still want what is best for it at the same time. I can say for sure that the country I live in today isn't the country I was born into nor the country my grand father fought for 60+ years ago, let alone the country he was born into... Does that mean I'm unpatriotic? It's perfectly ok in my book to say we made a wrong turn, and it's getting time to make a turn back to the right direction... The question really is where did we make that wrong turn? Was in Lincoln, Wilson, or FDR? Nothing unpatriotic about questioning our past and how it's going to hurt us in the future.
