As an owner of both I would get the Marlin 795 again. All you need is Tech Sights and to stiffen up the stock if you are going to shoot with a sling. It was way more accurate head to head with bulk ammo. I bought my son a 10/22 and it is by far the most complicated to break down. Ever dissassemble a trigger group? Only $450 invested in it to shoot better than a stock Marlin 795. The only downside to the marlin is the scope rail. it is a 3/8" dovetail. Some scope rings will slide back during firing. And the Marlin LOP is not kid friendly. But for $99 it can't be beat.

A (soon to sport an AAC Blackout) Microtech STG556.....sorry for the delay Radarrider.

How is this any better than a .45Colt lever action rifle? I have no desire to shoot .410 from a carbine when there are .410 shotguns already out there. If you want an odd .410 firearm, get a Saiga or the ATI .410 AR15.

I'm looking @ the Trijicon RMR. I have a Burris Fastfire on mine now and I would rather a non battery reflex sight on my STG since I won't be running BUIS.

did you all catch the other shows last night on the History Channel? "The Longest Shot" - recreating U.S. snipers unbelievable combat shots, and a rerun of the Gunny's machine gun evolution.

Berets: I got out right before the switch. I liked the old BDU cap. I would spray starch on it, put it on the end of my roll mat and let it dry so in the morning it would keep shape all day. (or until I would sweat so bad or throw it in my rucksack during loading operations) 88H "Oh no he didn't, a 2 year old thread". Yes, I went there.

Anybody shoot older military rifles?
LA_357SIG replied to roverboy's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I shoot my .22 AR15 WAY more than my 5.56 and 6.8 AR's. I'd like to shoot the Mosin more but it's not as fun in an indoor range other than scaring the bejeebuz out of the Fudds while they are benchrest shooting thier $2000 match .22lr's. -
Back on topic. I forgot this was a handgun thread. I'm itching for another 1911. I regret trading my Kimber Custom II but I so dearly love my FNP-45.

Unions + Government bedfellows = BAD USPS > UPS for Jackson, TN. Adds 1 extra day on transit time to go through the Memphis hub.

I started my son (when he was 6) on a single shot Henry Mini bolt .22lr. It's alright but there is no sling swivels and has 3 huge fiber optic sight dots. It is small enough for little kids but I had to shoot it like a pistol. He now has a Marlin 795 (which is just like a Marlin 60 except it takes magazines). The stock sights suck but we got Tech Sights for it and then just mounted a scope. I can shoot sub 1/2" groups @ 25 yards with crap bulk ammo. Top is a TacSol 16" 1:16 .22lr upper.

This is what I'm setteled on. Burris Fastfire I. I'm waiting on a 1/2" riser to get here from Bright Flashlights. (Best prices on everything. (especially YHM stuff) Aimpoint M2 TA504R 3x ACOG

a one piece scope mount is really the way to go. SWFA has some reasonably priced Burris mounts. Of course if you want to "hang with the big boys" LaRue makes some good "tactical" mounts. ETA: the AR requires a high cheek weld due to the stock and most low scope rings made for bolt action rifles usually don't work out well. http://swfa.com/Burris-AR-PEPR-30mm-Scope-Mount-P12623.aspx

BCM 1:7 Midlength upper Aimpoint M2 AAFES package CDD lower Magpul MOE stock and grip

That's it. And to add not full-auto. Plus the AR15/M16 is one of the few semi-auto rifles that have the recoil spring behind the bolt carrier that needs the extra length to accommidate it. Nearly all of the other semi-automatic rifles have (or can have) collapsable or folding stocks. That's the beauty of bullpup rifles. You can keep the minimum barrel length and be compact as possible. How can you not love this. Pass GO and keep your $200. "That's a Monolpoy reference for those who didn't get it":D

Paint it. But I doubt you live in the desert part of TN. I would love to see an artic and woodland version of this. Not my pic but I think this looks awesome.

Just wanted to show off my new Aimpoint M2 ($419/shipped) AAFES kit from SWFA Sample list. Not thrilled about the rear sight though.

Like the others said. Blackthorn/Hesse/Vulcan/AKPartskits/ARPartskits = NoGo. I suggest skimming through AR15.com through the build it yourself section. It will spare you the colt vs everybody else B.S. in the AR discussion section. Oh. Just want to say Buy Cheap. Buy Twice. Saving $200 to build cheap isn't worth the fustration of replacing broken/malfunctioning parts or damage to equipment or personel. Spike's, BCM, JT Dist., RRA (when in spec) Buy with confidence.

Glad to see yours work. The set I bought for my 91/30 was too wide to fit the rear sight mount. Too tight for the elevation know to be of any use.

A gun shop in Louisiana I used to buy from (that got raided by the BATFE and shut down...AGAIN) reported guns stolen after Katrina that were already sold to customers after (fraudently) using police credentials to get the discounted price and sell them for retail price.

We are way past getting on by the .gov. I'm willing to bet there were no CHP's and background checks around the time the Constitution was framed.
-
I got one (not E4) with the rail and I love it. The only things I dont like is the rail is rather high and the inability to shoot with a target sling. If I was into the Magpul/tactical/VFG style shooting I would probably appreciate the AUG platform more. But I am not knocking the AUG and when I get more experience shooting like that I'll like it more than my AR's and Mosin (which I love btw. probably more than a person should)

Leupold makes an inexpensive scope specifically for the AR15. http://swfa.com/Leupold-15-4x20-Mark-AR-Riflescope-Package-Deal-P44572.aspx
