  1. Appreciate the clarification.
  2. Not sure I actually saw an "answer" to my query. If you are carrying in a place and fashion that doesn't require ANYONE to have a permit why would I (or indeed anyone) even bother feeling the need to have their permit with them? (much less have an officer ask to produce one if you did)
  3. Unless I missed it I'm not sure if this was addressed specifically. If you are carrying where a permit is NOT required to carry why would you even need to have, much less be required to present, your permit? For instance, if I'm sitting in my deer stand (let's make it on my property as well) during legal hours in season I'm not one jot more than thousands of other hunters waiting on a deer. But the argument seems to be that not only would I be required to have my carry permit with me but be required to produce it. If that's actually the case the word "stupid" seems woefully inadequate.
  4. Is there not qualifications for what is a "restaurant" and what is a "bar"? For instance, I was under the impression that, say, O'Charlie's would be the former while Longbranch Saloon would be the latter. I believe it was predicated on ratio of food sales and such IIRC. Is this not the case? If so, there's a bunch of places that wouldn't qualify for carry even if the owners WERE willing to let patrons do so. This may not have been part of the final law but I'm positive I read something to that affect somewhere.
  5. How big a target? Which red dot? I've got an Eotech that I like alot. It's got a 1 MOA aiming dot and under the right conditions there's no reason I couldn't expect to hit, say, a deer's vitals at 100yds. My eyes aren't what they used to be so I'm sure others could do better. I'll add the the weapon the Eotech sits on is not intended for anything beyond 100 yds anyway and inside that is better. I've just gotten used to at least SOME magnification and crosshairs for most applications where shooting at anything where any kind of real range is involved.
  6. I'm one that has and always will err on the side of overkill. I agree that there are too many variables to speak in absolutes about such things but then that in-and-of-itself I think is damning to the man's argument. For instance, citing this guy kept fighting after being struck with a .44 while that guy dropped like a stone from a .22 is meaningless if we don't know where the bullets impacted. If the former was nonvital and the latter was straight into the left eye that's an incredibly lame comparison. There is simply no way I'm going to ever accept the idea that identical shots into identical targets are going to wound in identical ways when using modern SD ammo in .22/.380/9mm vs .40/10mm/.45. Sorry, not buying it for a second. Now, there's always the capacity argument along with the controlability argument to go along with asking to what EXTENT do the latter cartridges have over the former. And even that doesn't address the old "The .22 in hand beats the .45 in the drawer every time" issue. It's all valid and there's pros and cons across the board. What I don't like is how articles such as this one, at least in MHO, whiff when they simply try to imply that all other factors being equal getting hit with a 9mm is no different than a .45/10mm/.357/.44. I'm not buying it.
  7. Benny Lava is pretty funny. This one isn't bad either and frankly the girl is enough to watch the vid at least once. (IMO anyway)
  8. Wait, so you're saying your brand new HCP doesn't have your current legal address on it? If I read that right you need to get that looked into soon.
  9. I have this one for my Glock 29 and like it so far and it does list the S&W J Frames as an option. SuperTuck Deluxe
  10. I think some of the perception of "lax" marksmanship is that it's a little bit of a stretch to call defensive shooting "marksmanship" to begin with, at least in a classical target shooting sense. Think about it, 15 yards is 45'. Depending on circumstances you might be having to work pretty hard on justifying yourself shooting at somebody that far away. The way the law is set up currently you have to be able to demonstrate a very real and proximate threat to apply lethal force and I'm betting the HUGE majority of clean shoots take place inside that 7yd range. I'm not saying it's not better to be accurate. In fact, I'm of the mind it's impossible to be TOO accurate. (If anything I could probably spend a little more time just making sure I'm fast on target and not just going for one hole groups at the range) Just saying that lawful handgun defense isn't really a precision at distance sort of thing.
  11. I just a couple days ago got my Supertuck. I got mine with the horsehide. I like it, though I'm still trying to decide if I want to go with the clips or J-hooks.
  12. Glock 23/27 HK USP Compact Kahr P40 One day for reasons I won't be able to explain any better then than now I'm going to fall prey to a S&W 340 .357 snubbie.
  13. Comebacks why you carry a gun... A cop won't fit in my pocket. If the SHTF you obviously won't be any help. Because when seconds count the cops are only minutes away. In case somebody needs shot. Bad guys don't make appointments. I can't throw a rock at 1200fps. Same reason I wear seat belts. "Please don't hurt me!" has a high failure rate. A gun in hand trumps a cop on the phone. If you just want to screw with them you can pull out "Who is John Galt?", especially if they fancy themselves intellectual.
  14. Sidearm. I said when you pull your sidearm out.
  15. The one thing that I'd lob at the detractors trying to work this angle would be a very finite concession to the idea that a place where alcohol is served* can statistically carry a slightly greater risk of just "running" into trouble. That would be that restaraunt carry be limited to concealed carry only. To the best of my knowledge this is not something specified in the bill. People don't get drunk and start grabbing people's guns if they don't know they have them. *Pet peeve but this is NOT a "carry in a bar" bill, it's a "where alcohol is served" bill. To try comparing the former to the latter is like trying to stand Hillary Clinton and Cindy Crawford together unclad and describe them as "naked women". Going strapped into a club and ducking into Applebee's for dinner with the family without having to disarm yourself are very much different things.
  16. Just to play devil's advocate; In what (legal) situation would you pull your sidearm and NOT report it? Anybody? Bueller?
  17. A couple things in this hypothetical jump out at me. First is the "significant other" part. Even if you feel, for whatever reason (you're a Jedi or something) you could personally take care of this situation without pulling your firearm (or light sabre) it's a whole other level when you might be the only thing standing between a loved one and harms way. Then there's that part about the proximity of this guy's "buddies". If something starts what's to keep others from joining in against not just you but now you're unprotected wife/girlfriend? Still, the BIG one to me is this: You can tell he wants to fight, for whatever reason, and you try to retreat, but he follows... I suppose prosecuters and lawyers can haggle over semantics 'til the apocolyps but I think one could make a pretty good case you aren't just being confronted but being pursued. I can't begin to imagine how someone who has tried to extricate themselves from a situation but been is still being aggressively and actively pursued isn't going to be justified in defending themselves.
  18. Ok, it might just be "understood" but I thought I'd go ahead and throw it out there anyway. If you're walking down the street or something you're somewhat screwed but if you are in/proximate your vehicle do what everybody that doesn't have a permit does; unload the thing and put in trunk or wherever else puts it well out of reach. Now you're no different than anybody else moving their firearms from point A to B for the purposes of target shooting/hunting or whatever. If you don't have your permit on you at the earliest possible time stop carrying like you do. In fact, even if you are stuck away from your vehicle at least make sure you unload the thing. If you were REALLY worried unload it and toss the ammo. Even at todays prices it might be worth it, especially if wherever it is you live has cops that have a rep against personal carry.
