have the S&W AR15-22. love it. it allows me to shoot while my kids shoot and train on the cheep. very accurate, "Match" barrel, and seems to eat everything i feed it. and i'm cheep. if it was just me and the kids didn't love it so much, i'd probably go in this order of preference: Spikes dedicated upper Spikes .22 bolt conversion S&W AR 15-22 Those are popular choices. Have you ever considered CMMG? If so, what were the pros and cons to you?

Chris, Thanks for the offer. I'm from West Tennessee so I'm not familiar with CHMR. What is that? Also, do you know any Paxton's in Spring Hill?

Thanks Capbyrd, I seem to be narrowing down to Spikes and CMMG. I have heard good things about CMMG and my buddy has a Spikes upper that he likes. Have you (or anyone else) heard of Model 1 Sales Model 1 Sales: Are they any good? They have several .22 offerings.

What made you choose the CMMG? What other manufacturers did you consider?

Thanks for everyone's input. So far the options that are floating to the top are a complete SW 15-122, a CMMG upper and a Tactical Solutions upper. The S&W is good, and from what I hear, CMMG makes a good product, but I'm not familiar with Tactical Solutions. Can anyone speak to the quality of Tactical Solutions? They are rather expensive.

I'm trying to do my homework before my next purchase. I want to get a .22 AR of some sort. My preference is a .22 upper that will fit on any standard lower. I will consider a complete rifle, but I want it to be as close to a "real" AR as possible. What should I get? I hear good things about Spike's uppers and S&W complete rifles. I don't want a conversioin kit. I will use it for squirrel hunting, general plinking, etc. It is unlikely that I will complete with it, but I do like good accuracy. Thanks in advance!

I ordered some mags about a month ago. With in a day or so of placing the order, i got a message saying two of the mags were out of stock, and they wanted to know what to do. I said put the two on back order and send the rest. They did, the "rest" got here in a week or so. Got another message saying the two on back order were no longer being stocked and would not be ordered but they had a substitute for $1 ea. more. I asked them to give me the substitute and knock off the extra $1. They did. Got them in a week or so. I was happy.

Contact the NRA. Once upon a time they had a huge book (and price to match) full of range development resources.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm more interested in shooting specific apps, like ballistic calculations, match scoring, mobile app for gunbroker, etc.

Anybody know of any good shooting related apps for smart phones? I've had my Droid X for a few months now and love it. I would start the discussion with a recommendation or two of my own, but I don't know of any, hence the thread.

I have visited this range several times over the years. It is a good range and never crowded. One word of caution... the pistol range is in front of the rifle range. Both ranges use the same backstop. AF275's first picture is from the pistol range looking at the targets. His second picture is from the pistol range looking back at the rifle benches. The way this range is set up, I have always viewed it as unsafe to use the pistol and rifle ranges at the same time. Enjoy, but be careful.

My daughter shot her first deer when shew was 11 with a Ruger M77 in 7.62x39. I bought this gun from a buddy whose son's shot their first deer with it. It is on loan to a friend whose pre-teen daughters are using it to shoot their first deer with. At ranges that first time hunter will shoot, it is a great caliber, mild recoil. My daughter had shot .22's quite a bit prior to hunting, so she knew trigger pull, how to use a scope etc. But to make sure she did not get scared of recoil, i did not take her to practice with the deer rifle at the range. So, the first time she pulled the trigger on a deer rifle was whe she shot her first deer. In fact, she has never shot a deer rifle off of a bench (but has shot 3 deer now) and has no idea what deer rifle recoil is. I'm sure you all know how you don't pay attention to recoil and sound when you shoot a deer. I'm glad I did it that way.

I'm from Jackson... I visit the Great Outdoor Store often but never shot there. I'm a member of the Tennessee Sports Foundation. Our range is located on Riverside Dr. Four pistol ranges, a 100 yd rifle range, a 500 yd rifle range, an area for you throw your own clay birds for shotgun and an archery range. It's nothing fancy, but a great place to shoot.

I have considered a 9mm conversion barrel for my G23, but not bought one yet. I keep hearing rumors that I might find or develop extractor problems. Can anyone confirm or deny such claims? I have shot the Lone Wolf 9mm barrel in my 23 just to try it out and it seemed very reliable and was very accurate.

Parkway traditionally has the lowest glock prices around. There is a new place in town called Direct Hit or On Target (don't remember exactly) on S. Highland. They are trying to match Parkway prices and seem to be doing it.

Sgt. Joe, Regading references, the best thing to do is to show up for a few matches and get to know some of the members. Matches are open to the public, so it is a good way to "try out" the range and get to know some folks. If you have a long drive, you might call first to make sure the match is still on.

This is a private range/club, but it is in Jackson and membership is very reasonable... IDPA

Just want to use it for personal use. I'd like to keep up with gun info, accessories, ammo, load info, values, pictures, etc. I dislike everything i've found so far enough to say I'll write my own program. I know MS Access will do the job, but what knowledge I use to have of Access has diminished as newer versions have come out. Also, my desire to relearn it has diminished with age. Most everything I find is several years old and appears to be unsupported and/or was not written for Windows 7. Life is hard when you're picky AND lazy!

I keep hearing about a new gun shop opening up any day now in Jackson. Name is supposed to be "Direct Hit" and located on S. Highland near Walgreen's. Anyone know anything about it? Jackson has lost at least one gun store this last year and the sporting goods stores are on the high side. I would gladly welcome a REAL gun shop. I would like one that is competetive on priceing, has good service and is friendly. I don't know what it is, but many gunshops are unfriendly.
