budget is important. if you've got the dough to upgrade from a ruger, you can get a S&W 617 6 or 10 shot. if you've got a serious bankroll, you can get the Freedom Arms Model 97 talk about gun lust...

Highlander that's impressive, and a good story! I'm sure that Ruger has a lot of value to you.

Since I started shooting I've enjoyed doing my own modifications. So far I've only made some simple modifications on my rimfires. I'd like to see what other TGO'ers have done as far as DIY upgrades. And, of course, pictures make any thread much better. No pictures of my rifles but here's what I've done. Marlin Model 60: - new sear spring (After I broke the original ) - installed a set of Tech Sights aperture sights. CZ 452 American: - adjustable sear and trigger shoe and my current project.. Ruger MkIII 22/45 - wolff reduced power trigger spring - wolff firing pin spring - clark hammer bushing (removes magazine disconnect) - volquartsen target sear - pac-lite 4.5" threaded receiver w/ rail - pac-lite compensator Here's a picture of the Ruger

Federal Court Rules Open Carrying Disorderly
byrnemm replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think most of society has felt this way about people openly armed with firearms since the 1800s.. or further back. Nothing is comfortable about seeing a stranger with a deadly weapon when you don't have one. The fact that we are comfortable with police and military openly carrying weapons is a tribute to our society for producing trustworthy civil servants. It sure hasn't always been that way. -
Seriously though, it can take a hammer... been there.

Supreme Court nominee and the 2nd amendment
byrnemm replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree.. I don't think you are going to find a more open minded to the conservative viewpoint supreme court justice candidate chosen by President Obama than Elena Kagan. In other words, if she isn't confirmed I don't think the next candidate is going to be Ron Schmeits. -
Good luck man. Last time this happened to me I went to bed and forgot about it. Then after work the next day I approached it with a fresh mind and fixed it in 5 minutes. Give those guntalk articles I linked you a good study, and then do yourself a favor - spend the $20+S&H and get the Clark bushing! I don't want to sound like a broken record, but it really sounds like this is hammer/hammer strut related. When you pull the bolt back (it will let you do that, right?) and look into the chamber, is the silver hammer lying flat? Did you have any pieces left over? Like this or this... or this?

haha. Maybe you're screwed? Try those links and see what you can do. I find it comical that half of the advice is "turn the gun upside and shake it" but yeah.. it works. Somehow. Most of that shaking is an attempt to move the hammer. Here is a picture: The most common problem with the mkIII is that that hammer is sticking up. It needs to lay flat for disassembly/reassembly. Too bad you aren't in Nashville or I'd just fix it for you EDIT: Also, there is a $20 solution that will make all your headaches disappear. http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/22sdtls.htm#mkiipin CLK-515B Clark Blue Oversized Hammer Pin & Hammer Bushing Kit. Details $ 20.00 This part allows you to throw the magazine disconnect away, letting you easily eject magazines and saves you from that ridiculous field stripping process of inserting and ejecting the magazine every 2 steps. Not to mention it takes virtually all the creep out of the trigger!!! Easily the best upgrade available for the MkIII series.
-
pull the trigger while you gently pull out the main spring housing. does it swing out? edit: you may or may not have to insert the magazine when you do this. The goal is to get the hammer fully forward and out of the way.

If you give us more information on what part of the process you are having trouble with we can help. In the meantime, here is the go-to place for these sorts of problems: Troubleshooting Page 2245 Maintenance Page

cool. thanks, added it to my netflix.

I found this while reading the diary of Alvin York. If you don't know who he is, get to reading! I'm questioning the legality of the turkey target practice..

I have the MkIII 22/45. Major improvements: Clark Hammer Bushing - removes mag disconnect, takes creep out of trigger Volquartsen Target Sear - smoothens and lightens trigger The only issue left is the pretravel of the trigger. The volquartsen trigger is great. I bought the Clark which I somewhat regret because I have to modify it to make it fit. Time will tell if its worth the extra effort. Between the bushing, the sear, and the trigger your MkIII trigger will be much improved. If you have FTE's then the suggested improvement would be the Volquartsen Exact Extractor. But you don't need to spend $ on the entire kit unless you really want to. A lot of the parts will be left over. That pretty much sums up what you'll find on rimfirecentral, too. just FYI my other upgrades are Wolff hammer and trigger springs. I think the trigger spring might slightly lighten the trigger, but looking back I'd just save the $ and stay stock.. its a 22.. the springs aren't an issue.

CZ's feel great in the hand. P-01 or PCR would fit the bill.

best answer. The only answer, really.

Great video, Catseye. IDPA looks like practical and also a lot of fun. How friendly are the stages for beginners? I'm thiinking those 8"(?) plates were about 10 yards out? My weekends are mostly accounted lately because I'm being a good fiance and helping prepare for my wedding, but if I'm ever able to shoot a match I'd jump at the chance.
-
Truth. A lot of owners end up putting a red dot on it. I wouldn't because my .22 is practice for my center fires. There aren't a whole lot of options.

What does a 9mm do for home defense that a .357 doesn't?? Is capacity a big issue for home defense? Not in my opinion.
-
Too bad she doesnt like the TCP. Maybe she should stick with it. Or a heavier .380 like a Walther. Maybe she would surprise herself by liking a revolver better- SW 442 or 642. Use low powered loads at the range and carry something with some more umph. But I think the first reply from Nolo - Beretta Tomcat .32 - is the best.
-
so... put a pac nor barrel on it and all thats left of the 700 is the action? Haha, sweet rifle.
-
That is great news. Now that the 9mm and .40cal Glocks share the same dual recoil spring system the fear was that the 9mm, specifically 115gr ammunition, would have ejection or feeding problems. Are you planning on putting some JHP through it soon?

All I have to contribute to this is this---- If you are going to scope a rifle, do it right the first time. It doesn't have to be expensive. Concerning inherent rifle accuracy- you don't have to pay much to get an accurate .22lr. Increases in accuracy come at vastly diminishing returns relative to price. Lots and lots of rimfire shooters on rimfirecentral.com recommend the scope I'm about to link, and for good reason. It's inexpensive, versatile, and easy to use. It's got a wider range of zoom than your average 3-9x. You are target shooting, not squirrel hunting, right? Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO APV 4.5–14×40 AO (black) •Â Mueller Optics You can find this scope for around $115 easily. So 2 recommendations: 1 - set the budget a little higher 2 - go for a higher top end magnification
