  1. One favorite that comes to mind is Last of the Mohicans. I love the opening scene when they shoot the running elk. If you watch it in slow motion, looking through the trees, you can see a guy with a blaze orange hat running along side the elk.
  2. Usagi, thank you very much. You answered all of my questions. I will have to seriously look into the class. For those of you who are not familiar with the Appleseed project check out the links provided above by Goomba. Very cool
  3. I believe the Mossberg owners manual for their shotguns with a 3.5" chamber state you should not shoot slugs. I am sure some else here can verify this.
  4. Who has done it? What did you think? Was it worth the time? I am not a "rifleman". What type rifle will I need (actions: bolt, lever, pump, semi-auto) and will a .22 or other short range caliber (200 yrds or less) suffice? From the little I read it seems they imply a 20+ round magazine fed semi-auto is preferred, but then they mention what ever you have. Do they teach shooting at moving targets? How big are the class sizes and what is the student teacher ratio?
  5. I do not own one, but did shoot one recently. It is a soft shooter, low recoil, more like a delayed push.
  6. It is most likely the magazine and I will bet it is an after market one. The only magazines to buy are orig. manufacturer or Mec-Gar, who makes orig manufacturer magazines for many of the gun manufacturers, including Ruger, and Sig.
  7. I got the fever. I have never been hog hunting and want to do it with dogs. Any guide recommendations in TN?
  8. Concrete will cause the steel to rust and wood to rot. Don't know why but I am sure some here can explain.
  9. Ridgerunner, Very Cool!! You should consider posting this at MarlinOwners.com They would love it.
  10. I have 2 friends who recently took the Glock armorer class. They asked the question at least 2x will a Lone Wolf 9m conversion barrel damage the Glock 23? Both times the instructor stated he is only allowed to say Glock does not recommend it. Note: he would not say it will damage the gun. Both these individuals have the conversion barrel and have fired 100s of rnds w/o issue.
  11. The Px4 is a more comfortable shooting gun due to grip and soft recoil. However, the long and heavy double action first trigger pull reduces first shot accuracy and the second shot in single action has very short trigger pull and is very light, thereby increasing the chance of a negligent discharge. The Glock with its constant trigger pull is easier to master and is arguably safer. The Glock compacts (19, 23) are a nice compromise. They have a 4" barrel like the full size Px4 but the overall dimensions are smaller and it weighs less making it easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry. I have read and am beginning to agree that we tend to place to much emphasis on grip comfort. If you can shoot "combat accurate" that is good enough for carry purposes. With most guns if you shoot it "enough" you tend to acclimate to the grip. "Enough" might be about 500 rounds without switching back to other guns. At that point you won't think too much about grip comfort unless you deliberately choose to think about that particular aspect of the gun.
  12. Don't forget anyone can look many of us up to see if we have a permit. So it is not a big secret. Tennessee Handgun Carry Permits Information & News from The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)
  13. JGrauman, That was a good link, more food for thought. Thanks
  14. I would look at a Henry lever action and if $ is no object a Marlin 39A. I just like levers
  15. Guess I have a different view. I frequently and deliberately use it as ID in stores in safe parts of town. I figure: 1. the store clerk is not a bad guy/gal therefore they are not going to be an attacker. 2. No one else is paying attention to what ID I present 3. I do not view it as threatening. I do not open carry. 4. Most importantly it demonstrates through my actions that people do legally and responsibly carry. Hopefully this starts to breakdown some misperceptions. A lot of people tell me I look like an accountant or lawyer, so I assume I look responsible. 5. If more people do this it may shatter even more peoples misperceptions. 6. Here in TN all of the clerks seem to have no problem finding the date. They act as if it is common for people to present the permit as ID. I have never had so much as a 2nd look from anyone, even in the liberal NE. Feel free to post opposing views. I may learn something and make a more informed decision.
  16. There are 2 versions of the 3rd generation. The early 3rd generations have one pin above the trigger (as in the pics above) and the later 3rd generations have two pins. Does anyone know why Glock added the 2nd pin?
  17. I seriously considered buying one a while back so I did a lot of research. Everything I read was good. Bersa has very good reputation.
  18. I am up for a shoot most any weekend. The 19th or 20th of June maybe best
  19. Great product, even greater if you have mags that are difficult to get the last one or two rnds in. Academy Sports has them for $30
  20. Some complain about trigger slap. I have fired the 40 cal a # of times and it will soften over time. Recoil is less than a Glock 23 and many say it is one of if not the softest shooting 40 cal on the mkt. Also know someone else with the 9 mm who loves it. It is a quality piece, soft shooting, fair price, and a number of police depts have adopted it.
  21. I sent the box to Catdaddy this AM, he should receive it Mon or Tues.
  22. I use to work for a company with an ESOP. Be sure to read or ask the benefits dept in HR about the plan rules. The company's contribution to your ESOP may not be based on your 401K contributions; you need to ask. Also, the ESOP plan may very well allow you to diversify out of some of your ESOP shares into other investments. BUT...it all depends on how the plan is written. Concerning your 401K.... I cannot advise you. It does not seem like there are any relatively safe investments today based on the state of the world and the debt levels and social welfare programs. But if you have many years until you retire it might be just as well to not make to many changes. Your company may offer free investment and retirement planning through an outside 3rd party and the administrator of the 401K (the company who sends you your statements) probably does as well. Again, check with the benefits dept in HR they will know.
