  1. Walmart's in stock long gun prices are very competitive. Academy will price match, but their list price is usually higher than Walmart. It has been reported that a significant # of Walmarts stopped selling long guns several years ago. I know they did in the major metro. areas of the NE. It will be interesting to see if they start to sell them again in the liberal major metro. areas. I believe it will all come down to what the sales are per sqr. ft. vs. other items.
  2. I encourage you to give it a try. You only live once. For me and many hunters it is not as much about the meat as it is the adventure. As far as equipment: I suggest you stick to a name brand shotgun - Remington, Mossburg, Beretta (the 391 at Walmart is a great buy), Benelli. Get plenty of practive shooting skeet or sporting clays. I also recommend you spring for a few shooting lessons. For your first several trips go with friends who know what they are doing or with a guide. You will need the proper clothes and boots; your friends or guide will be able to tell you what you need. By going with friends, who know what they are doing, or with a guide you will not have to buy all the other equipment and you will the learn the skills required to be a successful hunter. I wish you the best in your adventure!!!
  3. We will continue to pray, proclaim his healing and give thanks and glory to Jesus
  4. decent quality and good value scopes: Nikon Pro-Staff and Redfield. Wally World usually carries the Nikon Pro-Staff
  5. Christopher's in Cool Springs may have it
  6. I recall there being an excellent posting or link here at TGO about a yr ago, where a psychiatrist or psychologist provided a psychological profile of people who are extremely anti-gun. I have tried searching for it but have been unsuccessful. As I recall these people are very fearful of life and are controlled by their own fears.
  7. I know several guys with Lone Wolf conversion barrels. They have Glock 23s and bought the 9mm conversion barrel. You cannot use a Glock 9mm conversion barrel in a S&W .40 cal. Glock. You must buy after market. The reason is you need a 9mm barrel whose outside diameter matches a S&W .40 cal. barrel's diameter to properly fit the slide of a Glock S&W .40 cal. Lone Wold barrels are drop in and do not requirer any fitting. One of the guys took the Glock armorers class and asked the instructor a number of times if the Lone Wolf barrel would damage the Glock, all the instructor would say is Glock does not recommend the use of after market parts.
  8. the claims here on the new 581s are consistent with what I have read else where on the internet
  9. you got a good deal!
  10. I have read they burn pine out west but they fully season it and burn the fire hot. This minimizes the creosote build up. If the pine is really dry and you have had your chimney cleaned regularly I would burn it.
  11. Do not marry her until you are absolutely sure. Go to counsellingresource.com and search for "are you dating a loser". This is a very good site, plan on spending al of of time there. But be sure to do it on a computer she cannot track the sights you have been to. Also, many churches offer free counseling. Insist the two of you go and get this sorted out before you marry. If she is doing this now it will get much worse after the marriage. She will try to control every aspect of your life. She will try to isolate you from your family and friends. She will want your life to revolve 100% around her wishes, you will be just a puppet to serve her needs. It is very likely she has a personality disorder, these are frequently due to past abuse, including sexual. Women who have been abused are more likely to be distrustful of all men. If you ask her she will most likely deny it. If she has a personality disorder your life with her will be maddening, you will experience many deep hurts, she may project all of the problems and her bad behaviors on to you, blaming you for everything, denying she is accountable for any of it, claiming she is the perfect wife. You will never be able to make her happy, nothing you do will be good enough and she will let you know in such subtle ways no one but you will know it is happening. You will spend your home life walking on eggshells, really land mines, as you will never know what will set her off. She may likely become verbally abusive, which may lead to physical abuse. Husband abuse is real!! Do some research and go see a counselor even if by yourself. If you have medical insurance it will frequently pay for several or more visits and churches frequently provide it for free. Just go before you make one of the worst mistakes of your life. If she has a personality disorder these are rarely cured. They are life long afflictions and they can make the lives of those who love them a maddening hell.
  12. Like all ammo some guns shoot it well and others don't. You will have to try it and see. Only reason to buy it is if you hunt AND you plan on long shots over 200 yrds. Otherwise for shots limited to under 200 yrds Rem, Fed, and Winchester's will do very well and a lot cheaper. If you zero your gun 3" high at 100yrds, with these other ammos your max point blank range is 'bout 200 yrds. Academy and Dicks have had Rems and Winchesters on sale for $12.48 and rebates for $5 on 2 boxes, thats a net of $10 a box. Academy has the sale this week 11/7. Lots of reviews on Hornady LR ammo at marlinowners.com
  13. check at marlinowners.com they will let you know what a good price is. If it is camo model with stainless steal barrel it is probably a good deal.
  14. for sighting in and range shooting I use an over the shoulder recoil pad. It helps!!!
  15. If using rifled choke tube: Longer tubes are reportedly better, such as the Hasting's Paradox Lower velocity is better, under 1500fps such as Wichester BRI and Litefield Lites Some also report better accuracy using 3" shells vs. 2 3/4" Accuracy: 3" at 50 yrds The litefield website use to have some good research article on this topic
  16. Clutepc, Since you are south Nashville you may want to consider Charlie Hafner Memorial Range. It is about 20min south of Cool Spings; annual membership is $40.
  17. Fobus Evolution worked well.
  18. I concur weak dealer turnout and yes it is posted.
  19. Also, you can use your hot water heater as a water source. There should be a faucet some where around the bottom
  20. My understanding is, and someone pls confirm, that a salt cured ham will last for yrs. without refrigeration and you can cut a slice off anytime and not worry about it. If it gets moldy you just wipe the mold off. If you find it to salty just soak it in water for a while.
  21. Check out Wildwest triggers. Midway puts them on sale every few months for $80 something. Also check out Marlinowners.com for lots of good tips.
  22. A shotgun will do it all; small game, fowl, and if you decide later you would like to try large game you are set.
  23. For SHTF, I have heard you can stuff a lot of rounds and a space blanket in the hollow stock of the the Marlin 795. Can someone who has a 795 confirm this, pls?
