Tennessee Representative Health Care Votes
Patrick Henry replied to BryanG's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It is time to put our $$ where our mouth is and start funding those who are constitutionalists even those in out of state. Especally the liberal states. Even small amounts help. -
In a way this is a pointless discussion and a useless fact. What truely matters is the overall tax rate, i.e.... the total combined tax rate when comparing states. Having moved to TN from a socialist NE border state I very much favor a sales tax vs. a sales tax plus an income tax. Most people, if they logically think about it, would much rather pay a tax on what they spend in state than a tax on all of their income. I do not fully agree with the regressive tax view. Lower income people pay less in total sales tax because they spend less than people with higher incomes. Unless of course they get into excessive debt and that is their own fault. There are a large # of people who would vote based on emotion for all kinds of taxes in exchange for some gov. service they percieve as free, this includes: "better" libraries to public healthcare.

As someone mentioned in a thread a couple of weeks ago: a more realistic thing to worry about is loosing your job. So what one should focus on is getting out of debt and building up a cash nest egg of equal to 6 months income. Then worry and plan for less likely events

Watch the movie Defiance. That is SHTF stuff. On the run for your life. then it has nothing to do with your "investments" and everything to do with your survival skills and only a maybe on what you packed in your bugout bag.

In some states a verticle stripe of bright blue paint approx. 3" wide by 8" high at eye sight level painted on your trees are acceptable for posting your land. I do not know about TN.

First season mistakes, I should start a book...
Patrick Henry replied to a topic in Hunting and Fishing
Now, if you really want the full experience you should butcher the deer and clean the skull your self. An easy way to clean the skull is to soak it in water in a trash can or 5 gal bucket. Position it so the water line is just below the antlers. I suspend a 2x4 across two trees and hang the bucket high enough so dogs cannot reach it. The water will help to keep the smell down until you are within a few feet. -

Lever Action Gunsmith Need Recommendation
Patrick Henry replied to Patrick Henry's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I am not haing any problems. Had some work done on it earlier this year and was not happy. The work was sloppy and it was returned with surface rust (it wipped off). Some I am looking for future reference. Concerning tearing down the gun. There are a couple of web sights with very good directions. All you need is a gunsmith screwdriver set and some time. If you have never done it I recommend it. All your gun may need is a good internal cleaning. -
I recomend the Beretta at Wally World and a Hastings rifled choke tube. I get 3 inch grouping or better at 50 yrds with Williams rifle sights. Use low velosity sabots, about 1300 fps.

I am in the same boat. I am new to TN and Nashville , little to now extra cash to spend on a guided hunt, and got bad case of hunting withdrawl. If you are looking for company on a weekend trip to eastern TN I am interested.

The Noobies guide to Hunting in Middle TN
Patrick Henry replied to TNTitan's topic in Hunting and Fishing
15 acres is good! I use to have access to 6 acres and I got one two two deer there about every other year for the 14 years I had access. You just need to know the deer patterns: where they tend to be at certain times of day, usually early AM, mid AM, and just before and during dusk. -
Ditto: Beretta 390 at Wally World. Check out shotgunreport.com

The new issue of American Rifleman has an article on pistol shooting, but I have not read it yet. I think Massad Abood (sp) has an article at Backwoods.com that is good.

A youth sized Henry lever action. As previously stated: no safety concerns associated with an new/young shooter using a semi-auto; yet allows for follow-up shots after they have mastered the basic safety and rifle skills. Plus you can buy a full size stock or a slip on recoil pad for when they have grown. These hold there value reasonably well if you take care of it. Wally World has them or will order $257. Henry's cutomer service is legendary.

I cannot respond about Glock Talk but I do agree this is one of the better sites out there and certainly one of the best general state associated firearms web sites.

Newsflash from Wallyworld: Ammo prices raised
Patrick Henry replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Everything I have heard and read has stated ammo prices would be headed and will continue to rise. Some of this may be due basic economics: supply and demand; commody prices (lead, copper, etc...) I met a guy from Africa who told me the Chinese have been buying up hugh amounts mineral rights there, but I don't know if or to what degree that impacts ammo prices. -
I used Repel sold at Wal-Mart for years on almost a weekly basis in the Mid-Atlantic and North East where lime disease is bad. I lost a great Lab to limes and a number of friends had it. Repel worked very well. If you don't wash your clothes it will last for several weeks.

When applying for a carry permit, where do your fingerprints go? Do they retain them or dispose of them after the background check? I am just curious as I know some states do not take prints for the background check.

Need a Little HELP gathering some info! ASAP
Patrick Henry replied to VolunteerGuns's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
try these: 1st email NRA legislative section tonight and follow up with a phone call in early am, remember they are eastern time. they will be your fastest source. 2nd if you have a copy of John Lotts book More Guns Less Crime you should be able to find some stats. Try googling this it may help -
Franklin Gun Shop had a blued one last nite. I do not recall the price I am guessing about $475+. I think it was about $75+ more than the Kel-Tec PF9 $399. Fit and finish looked good. as previously noted about 0.5 inches longer than kel-tec pf9 and about the same height

I like that "no expiration date"!

You can find some interesting info on the Arisaka on line. If I remember correctly the Arisaka came in 2 calibers and Norma still makes ammo for them. Cabellas may still sell it.

check out shotgunreport.com They have a lot of unbiased opinions on shotguns. While the Beretta has historically been viewed as the best gas gun the new Brownings are getting better reviews. The Beretta AL391 gas system is said to be tough to clean and overly complex. Many still love the Beretta AL390 which is now made in the USA, I believe it is now called the Statesman and can be bought at Wal-Mart for about $600+

Knight muzzle loading is out of business but parts will be available for some time as well as product support, per NRA website. Very sorry to see them go.
