Concerning your hot water heater: To avoid burning an element out - Turn the elec. off to it if you are concerned about the water getting low it. Then before you turn it back on, make sure the water intake to the hot water heater is on then turn your hot water taps on in the shower and sinks and keep them running. This will draw water into the take and cause it to fill. After you have run the taps for a few minutes, leave them on but turn down the flow to low, and then turn the elec. on for the hot water heater. You want the elements to under water to avoid burning them out. It is a good idea to flush your hot water heater one or two times a year to get the sediment out. The sediment will shorten the life of the lower element in the hot water heater. To flush just screw a hose to the faucet at the bottom of the hot water heater and turn the faucet on for 5 min. To save water in your hot water heater for emergency use- Turn the main intake valve into your house off. This is to avoid water being sucked out at the main water line as the preasure falls, and to keep the water in your pipes in your house. Then use the water from cold water tap that is lowest in your house. Then draw water from the bottom of your hot water heater where there is a faucet. This may have sediment so you can let the water settle before drinking.

There was a case a few yrs ago in a central northern state where the employer brought in a dog to sniff cars for guns. The dog found a couple and the employees were fired. They filed suit but I do not recall the background. This is TN and having moved here from the socialist NE I was pleasantly surprised by the # of folks who have guns and keep them in their cars. With that in mind I doubt many employers would search their parking lot and if they did the outcry from other employees and the public would be great. But you still might lose your job. Lawyers are trained to tell you when you are at risk and to tell what to do to avoid the risk; however many of them will not assess or tell you how likely or unlikely the risk is to happen. Companies frequently make a no guns policy, with no real intent of policing it, it is done just to legally cover themselves from a law suit if there were a shooting by an employee. If the company's head quarters are local my guess is the search is unlikely, especially if any of the very senior executives carry, shoot, or hunt. So my thought is assess the likely hood of a search and make your decision.

Welcome to TN!!! It is a great state!!! The TN people and their values are wonderful. TN has given me some small degree of hope for our country. For years I have used Break-Free CLP, Bore-Stores socks, and run a dehumidifier in my basement during the spring, summer and fall with no rust problems. Recently, I have started to use Remington's rechargeable silica gel desiccant along with the above.

I have read NOT to use steel wool on stainless and to use a 3M Scotch Brite pad. I think I read this on the Marlin website concerning their stainless steel lever-actions. The reason to not use steel wool is flakes of it will imbed in the stainless steel and these flakes will rust.

If you have a 40 cal. Glock you can get a Lone Wolf conversion barrel in 9mm. Benefits: Save $$ shooting 9mm Versatility: you can shoot 2 cal. out of the same gun.

I have hunted in the temp. zone for years. I am thin. I spent mornings an evenings sitting and the afternoons do drives. Here are my suggestions: Smart Wool socks from LL Bean. My buddies and I agree best ever. Sitting with 800 grams Thinsulate boots are good, may be hot walking. Take toe heaters just incase. Use spray antipersperant on your feet to min. sweating and chilly toes. If walking 400 grams will be fine. Underwear: no cotton only synthetics I wore an an army coat with layers as the coat blocks the wind and is very thorn resistant. The thorns can be very bad!!! I even wore chaps for drives as did most of the guys. Fleece is great for layering but if your coat is lined with fleece it will be hard to get on over fleece. fleece vests are nice for layers. Neck gator is required....it is light and great for layering. The fleece head and neck warmers are good. You can wear a light hat only or wear the fleece an put the light hat over it. Hand: I always have cold hands hunting even when buying the warmest Cabellas has. I have not tried this but have been told it works well....buy a hand muff and mid wait gloves. Put a hand warmer in the muff for when you are sitting. Pants depends on temps. Light ones with thermal under wear are good. if really cold and sitting I wear surplus German army wool pants. Assume there will always be at least a breeze, so wind blocking clothing is very important.

A .22 in the brain will do the job! You can also slit its neck, but you may get bloody and if you stick around it will bleed out in a matter of minutes. An equestrian vet I know told me animals do not feel pain like we do and have much higher pain thresholds.

Gentlemen, Thank you. We went to the range today. Fired 4 mags. of the same Federal ammo with no problems. We determined he was resting his thumb on slide last time. Also notice the recoil is softening now that he has about 250 rnds. down the pipe.

I heard a # of yrs ago the avg American gun owner has 7. So multiply the # of gun owner by 7 for a rough estimate of # of guns in the hands of American citizens.

I have a Bushnell Trophy red dot on a 12 ga. slug gun. It has held up for a number of years. I don't know how well it will work for shooting clays. Also, it is worthless in low light; I can see better with my naked eye.

I am thinking about getting a fixed blade knife for a bug out bag. Midway has the Glock Field knife on sale for $23. The price is so low compared to other knives, but it is a Glock. Does anybody know if these are any good? This will be to compliment a pocket knife and a multi-tool.

A friend has a new Glock 23 gen. 3 with about 200 rnds fired, so he still breaking it in. He had been shooting Blazer Brass and aluminum ammo with no problems. He shot Federal Champion yesterday and the slide would not lock open after last shot and he had one stove pipe. The magazines were properly seated. I suspect it is the ammo, but I had always heard Glock will reliably shoot any ammo, except lead. I have told him to shoot some other ammo. Has anyone had this experience or have any ideas as to the cause of this problem? Thank you for your help.

No one want unauthorized persons messin' with their guns. Having said that, with kids it is just or even more important to lock up the ammo. I read about a kid who lost a finger after slamming a round down on a rock. I also know a guy whose brother dared him to but a bullet in a vise and hammer a nail into the primer. The round hit him in an artery, he is very blessed to be alive.

A Stackon gun cabinet will keep your kids and all but a determined burgler with time on his hands away from your guns. Do bolt it to the floor and wall in the corner of a closet. Academy Sports has some of the best prices; they have an "8" gun cabinet for $99. Some times you will see these in a Wal-Mart. A good rule of thumb is to buy one larger than you will need and also figure on the safe holding less guns than advertised. So that 8 gun cabinet is really a 6 gun cabinet.

You will have to verify this but I believe the Mossberg 835 owners manual says to not shoot slugs, but that may not be an issue for you. Maybe a fellow reader will verify this for us.

First the lawyers will get richer, crafting the new legislation, threatening law suits and then if it were passed a whole lot of law suits and some states would opt out like the current 5 states that have said guns and ammo mfg. in their state do not need serial #s or to abide by ATF regs. Some law enforcement officers would not enforce it. And the blood of patriots will water the tree of liberty. But Congress would not try it before the greatest gun salesman has finished his first term.

Congrats on the Ruger!!! I use Break-Free CLP, it is a cleaner and lubricant all in one. The military uses it and it gets very good reviews online. Some cleaners can mar the polymer so read your owners manual and the cleaning bottle to make sure it is safe to use on polymer.

As I said earlier go with the gun you keep going back to, which as of late last nite and again today is the Ruger. They are both good guns; you will not make a mistake with either one. Some good advice I got yrs ago from my Dad, get the facts, make your decision, and get on with life. Learn from your mistakes but don't keep looking back, should of, would of, and could of are a waste of time. The Ruger is a quality gun, a good value, you like, get it and shoot it a lot.
