  1. ^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^ The only time I will spend in Memphis proper is to go to Redbirds games.
  2. Well I have officially survived my first night. Heading to the new job in a few minutes.
  3. I agree with that if you are talking about the downtown area. The area I plan on staying in looked nice. I do have my doubts about the whole move, but I am also eager to move forward.
  4. This is my last day of work at my current job. I will be driving to Memphis Sunday afternoon. I'm confident that I won't be raped or murdered.......maybe robbed though.
  5. What do I win?! Or was your comment the prize...lol.
  6. YES I have found them in a mailbox on more than 1 occasion. I've also found them at work in old wet pig mat. We've had brown recluses show up in gaylords of material as well.
  7. Since I accepted this job, Thursday, I've had 2 calls for interviews in other parts of the state. One each in the Nashville area and the Knoxville area.
  8. The folks I work for now are former Orlando area residents(40+ years) and they are the STRANGEST people I have ever met.
  9. Or maybe just don't hang out with the wrong crowd..lol
  10. I have felt the same way away about Memphis most of my life, but I also so feel that way about Orlando(I hate the whole state of Florida). I guess it comes down to you go where the work is.
  11. In a bad way?
  12. I have done extensive research on the crime in Memphis and while I would much rather this job be in a different part of the state I feel confident with our decision. My wife is more eager/excited about the move than I am so please don't think that I'm forcing this move on my family to make an extra buck. The company I will be working for is probabaly close to 90% black, but I did not let that factor into my decision. I've lived in small town USA for 34 years and have had my house broken into once, vehicles broken into, been shot at, had knives put to my throat, etc. so don't fool yourselves into thinking that because your city isn't on the "most dangerous list" that it can't happen where you live. Who knows a year from now, I have to stay with the company at least that long, I may run out of the area never to go back, but at this time I am making the move and will ask God to be with me.
  13. LOL.........that makes me want to get in the left lane and drive even slower.
  14. What's the property tax like?
  15. If we stay in Shelby County we are leaning toward the Arlington area. It's supposed to have some of the best public schools in the state.
  16. Why delete what you typed? I didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
  17. Thanks!!!
  18. My wife's best friend and her family live in Lakeland about 10 miles from where I will be working. That area is a little out of my price range though. Why not Gallaway? I didn't see much of it, but it didn't look bad.
  19. After living within 40 miles of my current home my whole life, I am moving to the Memphis area. I've received a job offer that I couldn't refuse. It comes with an almost 30% pay raise, relocation, temp. living, as well as several other good benefits. I must say that Memphis has always been way down on my list of places to live, but the area I plan on staying in seemed really nice. The job is in Gallaway and I hope to find a permanent home that's within 30 miles or so but outside of Shelby County. If any of y'all Memphis area folks have any ideas or advice please let me know. It would be nice to get to meet a few of you as well since I only know 2 people in the area.
  20. I think it's around $7. I looked at them last night, but a may not be remembering correctly.
  21. My wife and I were the only people in our class.
  22. I agree 100%. It was 98 degrees in my building when I left work and that was away from the injection molding machines that are melting plastic at around 500 degrees.
  23. I'm fixing to order some of this stuff soon. Where did you get the lower? I love it!!!!
  24. I haven't really noticed an increase in poison ivy on my property but have noticed an increase in ticks and snakes in my area.
