  1. Nice to have you posting Josh. Welcome to TNGO!
  2. The answer is YES! Once you use the Garmin, you are done. You can't use anything but the Garmin afterward. It is just so simple, small, and easy to use. It captures the shot every time. It isn't super finicky either; get it mostly near the gun & pointed mostly downrange & it just works. For a person looking to get a chronograph on the cheap, there are lots of people selling off their LabRadar units for half price or less right now. But there is a reason for that - the Garmin is awesome. Don't use one or you'll want to buy one. That was my experience.
  3. For those that are just casually reading this and are wondering how this unit is 'different', the Garmin chrono does not attach to the gun (like the magnetospeed units). The Garmin chrono does not go in front of the muzzle (like the oehler, caldwell ballistics, competition electronics prochrono DLX, etc.) The Garmin Xero C1 sits on the bench on a small tripod pointed downrange toward your target, behind your gun's muzzle, and uses doppler radar to measure bullet speed. It can't/won't get shot. It can't/won't affect barrel vibrations or point-of-impact (POI). It works like the LabRadar chronograph but without the "issues" (picky alignment, short battery life, missing shots and needing additional devices to be functional & reliable.) The Garmin is surprisingly small. I'd seen pictures but was still surprised when I opened the box & saw the size of it (tiny!) It isn't fooled by other guns firing on the range nearby & it captures every shot YOU fire. It's a pretty amazing device. If you have a suppressor, it still captures your velocity w/o having to buy anything extra. Muzzle break on your gun? Again, not a problem as the unit can be positioned far enough away to be protected yet still work. It can measure up to 5,000fps but still measure arrows, bb guns, shotguns, etc. Very cool & versatile. Garmin really did their homework. At $599, it is not cheap. But if the range you shoot at won't let you set up an optical chrono downrange and the bulk & finicky-ness of the LabRadar has left you holding off on getting a doppler-type unit, the answer has arrived. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/771164
  4. Brother-in-law drank himself to death. Rehab never worked and he went many times. He was such a nice guy, too. The alcohol just seemed to "own" him and he couldn't escape it. Very sad. He was about 58 y/o. I had heard alcohol could kill you but never saw it happen until B-I-L. Now I know it's true. I feel bad for anyone w/an addiction. It's like the devil is in control.
  5. This Burris Eliminator IV is a rangefinding scope. Check it out: https://www.burrisoptics.com/riflescopes/eliminator-iv-laserscope-4-16x50mm Burris Eliminator IV LaserScope 4-16x50mm 4.8 out of 5 stars. "Just aim, range, and shoot. It's that simple. The new Eliminator IV features extended rangefinding capabilities out to 2,000 yards and enhanced ballistic calculator with more data and faster-aiming solutions. All this significantly increasing the distance at which you can make an ethical shot. New wireless remote laser activation of the laser rangefinder has been added to make it easy to range your target. As always there’s no need for a smartphone, app or separate handheld range finder! Prior to the hunt feed the Eliminator IV your cartridge’s ballistic info and the scope calculates perfect holdover at your exact distance, estimates wind drift, then gives you the perfect aiming solution (bright red dot) — all at the push of a button. Just aim, range and shoot. It’s that simple! Four tools in one advanced optics including: precision optics, an internal digital inclinometer, smart dope card, and built-in laser range finder."
  6. It's a faster version of semi-semi-automatic? I have no idea how "their" minds work.
  7. Congratulations to the Michigan Wolverines. They took out my Tide & Huskies. Ouch. Would love to see them play Georgia just to see how that would go. Now Nick Saban has retired. It will be interesting to see how Alabama does moving forward. Heard Dan Lanning from Oregon is the hot rumor to replace him. Time will tell.
  8. I own two SCCY CPX-2 pistols (9mm / no safety) and both function reliably and are as accurate as most of my other 9mm guns. I'm sorry you got one that seems to work properly less than 100% of the time. @PAULSHOOT I would order a new recoil spring assembly (RSA). Failure to go into battery sounds like a weak RSA. It would be an inexpensive thing to try to see if it might sort out your gun. Maybe call SCCY, explain the shipping cost issue & ask if they'd send a new RSA for you to try in lieu of you sending the gun in. Worst they could say is "no". Here's one aftermarket option for $39.95 that might help: https://www.mcarbo.com/sccy-cpx-1-/-cpx-2-extra-power-recoil-spring-stainless-steel-captured-guide-rod-assembly.aspx
  9. @pop pop Good point. Velocity is important.
  10. Seems like .30 Super Carry isn't going to catch on which is a little sad, but non-expanding hollow point ammo isn't going to bolster its odds of succeeding either. You would think the manufacturers would have thoroughly tested for this. But smaller hollow points are more difficult to get to open up as less fluid can get in the tip to provide hydraulic force to expand them. Maybe a simple soft point would have worked better? Or some kind of plastic insert to help start the expansion, which the Hornady bullet has (the "flex tip" insert).
  11. FS...who? Ha! Just jerking your chain a little @Erik88 FSU has an argument for being there...but not a quarterback.
  12. There is a military guy in Collierville selling a Browning Pro Staff Sporter 24 safe here on TGO. As of this minute he's asking $800. These are great quality safes for the money (12ga steel; fire rated; dial lock) Rent a small U-Haul with the appliance dolly (the one with straps) and you can move it yourself or with one helper. Weighs about 500lbs, give or take 50lbs. Maybe you negotiate the price based on your costs to move it (u-haul & dolly rental?) I'm sure the seller would help you from his end with getting it loaded. Then you just figure out how to unload at your end. Some TGO friends might even be found to assist. Yes, you need a safe. No you don't want HarborFreight level cheap, but you don't need top of the line expensive either. The Browning would serve you well.
  13. Free bump for a good quality safe & veteran seller. Good luck w/sale and stay safe. (Pun unintended, ha!)
  14. Yep, just read it on yahoo sports: "Michigan, with a dominant win over Oklahoma State, took the No.1 seed, while unbeaten Washington took the No. 2 seed, followed by Texas at No. 3, and Alabama at No. 4." I'm very happy to see Alabama & Washington made it! I thought for sure when FSU beat Louisville that was it for 'Bama. But Louisville looked weak & FSU took all game to finally seal the deal, so they didn't look like a final four team. I'm just disappointed Georgia didn't make the final four. They are easily one of the top 4 in the country. 29 straight wins and they only lost to 'Bama by a field goal while playing without healthy big name stars at their best (Bowers & McConkey.) They should have still been in. But then what? You bump Michigan or Texas or Washington when they are all undefeated? Maybe you bump 'Bama and say Georgia was still the better team, but that's crazy talk since Alabama just won the head-to-head game! I think they got it as right as they could, knowing it isn't a perfect system & it is not entirely fair that some really great teams won't get their shot this year. In my gut, I still feel like Georgia is one of the top 4 best teams. They just didn't quite rise to the occasion when it mattered most and had a bad Saturday to be "off" their normal level of play. Sorry Dawg fans. Roll Tide! Go Huskies! Now I'm torn on who to root for.
  15. He sure got people talking!
  16. Roll Tide!
  17. So, @Worriedman would it be helpful if people WOULD do the survey (even if they can't understand the weird wording) as long as they are answering "STRONGLY DISAGREE" to each question? I came to the "strongly disagree" conclusion when I read the questions & realized any other answer allows them to interpret it as me supporting 2nd amendment/due process infringement, even a little,...and I don't.
  18. In deals like this with family the rule of thumb is sell LOW so he isn't creating any ill will or sore feelings. If it was me I'd say $300 and consider that a "win" for everyone. The real world prices on these Ruger 77s, especially the old red butt/tang safety models, is pushing $600 easily. That's w/o scope. Really clean ones go even higher. But...not to family. Gotta discount heavily to family or, better yet, it's a Christmas gift, you know?
  19. That is interesting that in the past, OPEN carry was good and legal but concealed carry was BAD and seemingly only practiced by those up to no good. Now, the general public wants the illusion that no one is carrying, so concealed carry becomes the more acceptable way to go armed. Walk down the street of just about any town in TN with a gun openly on your hip or slung over your shoulder and people are going to be uncomfortable and calling the Po-Po on ya.
  20. CZ P10s are excellent guns. But they arrived late to the "plastic fantastic" party after people had already loaded up with Glocks, Sigs, Rugers, S&Ws, Springfield Armory's, etc. But late to the party means you get to fix what others may have got wrong. The P10 trigger is one of the best in the "plastic fantastic" genre. Solid wall with a crisp'ish release (relative to the competition.) The stippling/grip texture is very aggressive but not 'cut your skin' level, which is what you want in a slippery plastic gun. You will not be losing control of a P10 even with wet (bloody?) hands. Then there is the grip angle and feel; it is CZ75 level great. A swing & a hit there. Mag capacity is top tier, too. The CZ P10F holds 19+1 stock. That's a lot of ammo onboard, right out of the box. The best for last? Accuracy! The CZ easily outshoots my Glocks, Springfield Armory, & Smith & Wesson. I like accurate guns. They are really the only interesting guns. CZ did well here. The CZ P10s are a "best buy" right now. Take advantage if you can. You won't have these prices for long. All good things come to an end. Wish I had bought me a Ruger 77/357 when they were "only" $750. Now you can't get a new one at all (supposedly they are 'arriving soon' with an MSRP approaching $1300! Ewww...) It's probably time for me to sell my SA XDm 9mm and get another CZ P10. Those Glocks in the safe probably shouldn't be getting too comfortable either. CZ is making good product. Why the general shooting public isn't catching on to this is beyond me, but people that "know" and shoot a lot have noticed. Once others get on the bandwagon, the prices will creep back up. I'm hoping to make some CZ "hay" before then. On topic with Gun Rebates - the economy is slowly descending into the crapper. Credit cards are maxed out, defaults on that debt grows daily and sales of homes & cars is decelerating. Bidenomics (aka, inflation) has taken a toll on middle class spending for discretionary items. Gun makers realize they need to incentivize NOW to capture sales & clear inventory before things completely tank. That's how I'm seeing it. Time will tell for sure.
  21. The correct answer for all of these is "Strongly Disagree". Due to the wording (unclear what is being asked) it becomes obvious this "survey" is geared to come up with whatever 'conclusion' the sponsor of the survey wants. And the more "gun" people they can get filling it out, the more legitimacy they can present the results as having. If it was a REAL survey seeking legitimate data, the questions would be clear & concise. You would know what you read & you would be able to easily pick an answer that matched your true feelings on the matter. @Worriedman , I truly respect you. This survey, however, is trash. Why is it being pushed when it is clear that the wording is nebulous allowing for ANY conclusion to be drawn from the results? Again - Worriedman = Good! Survey = Bad The left (and governor) want Red Flag laws. We the people want due process & our rights to be respected. The legislature wants guidance on where the winds blow on public opinion. This "survey" will be used to sell the legislature a story that EVERYONE supports Red Flag laws, one way or another, even those 'gun people'. Nope. Not helping them sell that idea. If you take the survey, I suggest you answer "STRONGLY DISAGREE" for every question. Better yet, just skip it. There is no value to be found here. Clear surveys with simple to understand language are easy to write. This is not one of them. Ask yourself why that is.
  22. I saw the video on the AM Memphis news of the guy openly carrying the SBR/Pistol (AR configuration) and I thought, "He is probably the most logical person in Memphis considering the rampant crime & violence perpetrated there by criminals who have no fear of the cops or courts." But...he obviously freaked people out. Why? School shooters? Mentally unbalanced whackos that go off their meds & randomly shoot people & things? Michael Douglas in "Falling Down" type situation? (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falling_Down ) The thing is, Memphis is ridiculous with violent crime. How does one protect themselves there? Bulletproof vest & a security detail? Carrying an AR everywhere you go? Maybe the guy starts a conversation that needs to be had. We are having it & it's interesting to me. We carry guns & think that is fine. This guy did, too. But his was bigger & out in the open...and somehow that's not fine? And I get it! It is weird what he did. If we could all just have halos over our heads that told the world who we were ("good guy", "bad guy", "crazy guy", "oblivious guy") then we could know if the AR carrying dude was an issue or not. The problem is bad people that abuse the rights we all want to enjoy. When a school shooter walks into a grade school with an AR, we want someone to confront & stop them. But when Bob the construction guy carries an AR into the Memphis Lowes to get some caulk b4 heading to the job site, we want to be okay with that because this is America & Bob is a good dude & should - in theory - be able to exercise his 2nd amendment right if he so chooses. But concealed carry is just so much better in society. We have defensive means at our disposal BUT we aren't freaking everyone around us out. That's a win-win. I've been in parts of rural Colorado where people open-carry & it's just normal there. No one freaks out. But it is a different place than mid-town Memphis. Situational awareness is a thing for a reason. My stand? Carry a gun in Memphis, but do so concealed. You aren't in rural Colorado, you aren't a rancher, you aren't hunting deer. Save the open AR carry for Fallujah. (Sadly, Memphis is closer to Fallujah than we like these days.)
  23. Stock fitment & magazine issues are frustrating. I appreciate you sharing your trials & tribulations with us. I had a nice Volquartson stock for a Ruger 77 that required shimming with two fender washers to get the action to sit in it correctly so the mags would go in and out properly. Sure didn't expect that from such a well-respected manufacturer's product, but I think they just outsourced the laminated stock production to someone else & had their name put on it. These things happen. I hope you can get your rifle, stock, & magazine issues all sorted out to your satisfaction. I will say the 7.62X39mm is a tricky round to get to feed properly from a mag. Seems the higher the capacity, the greater the chances of an issue. Obviously the Russians figured it out to feed the AK w/o issues, but everyone else can't seem to properly "reinvent" that particular 'wheel'. I have an AR in 7.62X39mm & haven't found a reliable mag for yet. It gets aggravating.
  24. Jury that heard all the evidence said not guilty (other than discharging a weapon in a bldg, or whatever exact wording was on that); I'm going to agree with the jury. They got to look people in the eye as they testified. They got a chance to hear & feel what was real & what was B.S. I'm going to trust they got it right in this case. The real lesson here is to stop & think of an alternative level of force or way to avoid continued confrontation should one find themselves in a similar quandry. If all you have is a hammer, things start to look like nails that maybe aren't nails. Another lesson, this one for the social media 'whores' that will do anything for clicks and views: Actions have consequences - quit screwing with people & save yourself from inevitable consequences.
