Thinking Of Switching To A Revolver For EDC
krunchnik replied to krunchnik's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well fellas,I can see I opened a whole can of the proverbial worms.believe me I have been pondering a decision for awhile now on the semi-auto versus the revolver. But in reality I grew up shooting revolvers and have owned many of them, and I have to say I only had 1 that was a real POS,spit lead everywhere except down the barrel.I awakened to the carry scene only in the last couple of years, and probably wouldnt even fret about it if I still lived in a peacefull and none violent area. But that aint so.all the various opinions are for the most part based in reality which is the scary part,if some of our citizens were fine and upstanding none of us would even be having this type of talk. For the last 20 odd years I lived in an area where all a person had to worry about as far as violence goes is whether or not you would be accosted by a dog or coyote, and the answer to that problem was straight forward, but the predators on our streets deem we need protection from them, therefore a firearm of some type or be really well trained in knife wielding. For myself I think I have reached a decision.and that is I would rather have a weapon that I and my wife are able to use,and possibly a son or daughter also.So to make a long story short I guess I will be toting a revolver from now on. PS:On a side note I will be looking into a Ruger SP101 or possibly a S&W Model 60 in .357mag-seems they would be a little better suited to a defensive standpoint than .38 special. Also most of them are running around 25 ounces empty which makes either one fairly light. My wife knows how to use a .38 snubbie so we have that covered. -

It actually shoots pretty nice,I was a little wary at first but not to worry, all rounds at 21 foot go where they are supposed to.I actually disliked shooting an Airweight I had,but this one is actually kinda fun. -

Yeh,its one of the last year models with the gold trigger and hammer, its a full stainless frame which makes it a little easier to control. -

I wear it in a Crossbreed Supertuck, just getting a little tired of my side hurting all the time, seems like no matter what holster I use I get tired of it.I wear OWB with a Desantis Mini Slide, also have used a MTAC for awhile. -
Hey fellas, any one here ever feel under gunned by carrying a 5 shot or 6 shot revolver instead of a Semi-Auto.I am considering going to a 2 or 3 inch barrel revolver in either a .38 Special or .357 Mag for my daily carry pistol.I guess I am getting tired of having to always have spare mags,is the pistol going to work right just when I need it,and the weight of the whole darn rig is also becoming bothersome.I have been wearing a Taurus 85 in a Blackhawk holster for the last day or 2 and it sure is a lot easier on the waist and ribs than my EMP.Not to mention I have kept a Bianchi Speed Strip in my off side pocket with extra rounds and barely notice its there. What say the collective, has anyone else switched from the Semi-Auto scene to the wheelgun .I am loaded with 129gr Federal Hydra Shock in +p.I think it would be a fairly decent BG round,of coarse I could be wrong also. This is the little jewel I am talking about, complete with porting, shoots darn nice.

I would imagine they are filling a void by offering smaller concealable pistols for those of us that feel a need to carry one on a daily basis.I know I sure wouldnt carry around a full size 1911 for a real long time without whining a lot.
-
I have recently(like the last couple of weeks)carried OWB but concealed and have to admit its a lot more comfortable with a certain body make up than others.I have a very short torso and this always puts the butt of my EMP into my lower ribs which gets very annoying,so lately I have been using a Desantis Mini Slide for carry.Anyone else running into this abnophenom(my own personal description)for lack of a better word, rib ache.Anyone here ever run into any problems with staying under the radar wearing an outside holster.I always wear a shirt over this set up as not to alarm the 911 phobics(Oh My God I Broke A Nail)should I call.Have any of you converted over to this type of carry or possibly have always ran OWB.Inquiring minds want to know.

It would make a good weight at the bottom of an aquarium to hold the plants down, only if it didnt poison the fish that is.
-
I had one just like that about 15 years ago, they are good shooting rifles.Enjoy.

Every one of these is 100%-gotta love the 1911(Well I do anyways)

Thats a good little read,I agree that when a manufacturer says to run 500 rounds thru the pistol to break it in is just a way of saying that they didnt make sure it fired correctly right from the factory. After all who has the time and extra money to spend breaking in a pistol that already put your bank statement into a deficit. For the cost of the ammo some pistols arent as expensive as the ammo would be.

I had one awhile back for a Smith J frame in the Minituck by crossbreed.I think its worth your while looking into one.I think you can pick one up from their site for under $100.00,I liked mine but I sold the 638 so I also sold the holster. For my use I prefer the Crossbreed Supertuck the most for both my 1911,s that I carry.

Nice looking little piece, post a range report after you get a chance to dirty it.I had a Para LTC single stack that had a very good trigger and never missed a beat.A friend wanted to trade me his Kimber SSS model and I couldnt say no,I would still have it if it were not for the trade,I really liked mine.Congrats.

And soon the sickness shall begin, there is no known cure.Resistance is futile.I know(I am a member of the club) WARNING:ONLY THOSE WITH WILL POWER MUST VIEW(I dont)
-
Nice Smith, one day I will have to look into one like that.

They are definately shooters.I have had mine for quite a few months now and a few hundred rounds downrange and I still cant find anything wrong with it(are they supposed to be this good for not much money).

The Winchester is indeed brass,I have used it in all the calibers and its decent ammo. The HP in .45ACP doesnt like to feed in the shorter barrels but my 5 inch 1911's it does fine. The FMJ feeds in everything I have.

Man,that looks good,I have trouble carving a turkey let alone leather.

I use Remington Golden Saber 180gr in my 3 inch Springer EMP.I think the short barrel ammo is manufactured with a powder that has less flash when fired in a dark room.I really dont worry too much about flash blindness.I also believe the ammo is developed for better accuracy in short barrels,I also dont worry about this either. At under 7 yards or so accuracy is my last worry.

Which of your semi-autos can be fired limp wristed?
krunchnik replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
I have 3 full size 1911's that will run no matter what,my RIA Compact also will run limp wristing. My EMP needs a good hold if for nothing else than the fact of dropping it when it goes off, hence the G10 grips. -
+100 on the 1911 cocked and locked
-
thanks for all the ideas, for now I ended up putting my G10 grips back on,its the Cross Canon grips that are a little slick.I really like the looks of the Springfield Cocabolo but the G10 grips are a lot grabbier.

I have purchased 3 firearms from them and all times it was a good experience.
