  1. http://www.macemachineshop.com/index.html The only guy I would trust in this area for FAL's
  2. I have a gen 2 with Glock mags, well Pmags, that lives in my truck BOB. Plenty 100 accurate with the factory sights. Hits plenty hard with heavy +p ammo. I wipe it down and oil it once in a while. Has never failed me. Gave $250 for it in a pawn shop a few years back.
  3. Driving to Chatt for the weekend. Any must see gun shops? Mostly into mil surps, com block, and the related accessories and parts. Going to leave there and head up around Gatlinburg to the hap then back towards home in the Clarksville area so anything along that route as well.
  4. I grew up in Idaho before i left with the Army. We killed more elk with 30-06 more than any other caliber out there. Buffalo is a different matter. Not sure if it is still on the books, but back then the minimum allowed in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming was a 45 class. .458's, 45/70, 45/100. This was per the hunting regs. Western buffalo compared to elk was like a bull cow compared to a white tail deer here. They are bigger, tougher, meaner. Go with enough gun!
  5. My Sig Kilo also went TU this year, Half the display when ranging is so faded you cannot read the numbers. I see the very same failure on the Sig forums and elsewhere. Sucks it cost a good chunk of change only to fail and have no support. Not like they were cheap, budget units.
  6. Keep extra decapping pins, especially if using military calibers. nothing sucks more than to plan your alone time to reload, get everything set out and ready, nice cup of coffee ready, good music going and then breaking a pin on a crimped primer or berdan case that snuck in, about 5 cases into it on a Sunday, when nothing is open to get a replacement, you live an hour away from the nearest store that carries such things anyway, and boom. Your done for the day. Ask me how I know. The dog gets to learn some new words. Only other thing i didn't see mentioned was save and USE your books. New books contain good info and I do buy them but the old books contain calibers the new books drop. You end up with quite the library and gives you good cross reference data. Don't think you will save money. You can tell the wife that, but it ain't true, LOL. I load for accuracy and satisfaction not to mention some odd calibers that good factory ammo is not available or difficult to find.
  7. Its a PSL, Long AK action, 24 inch barrel. The biggest hang up is the left-hand threads I need. Plenty of people threading barrels, not many in metric, even less in left hand.
  8. Can you do it without removing the barrel from the receiver?
  9. Exactly! I moved from a cash and carry state if you hold a CWP. This gun tax drives up the wall. What if you were taxed to vote, or taxed to to keep from getting searched, this is Gov't overreach.
  10. Have only lived here 4 years but it seems pretty apparent with the same pattern. Really warm winter day with a 40-50 degree difference cold front right behind it = tornados. I was sitting on my front patio Sat morning at 5am drinking coffee and smoking feeling how warm it was and thinking, I don't care what the weather lady Bree says on Channel 5. This is tornado weather. Sure enough, by noon "here we go". Luckily all we had on this side of the river in Dover was a really bad sideways wind/rain as it went over but just over the river in Indian Mound was a different story. Wife was in Clarksville shopping and on her way home down 79 had to run into the Walmart at Dover Crossing when the sirens went off after I called her and told her to not drive with what was on the way.
  11. No more braces here. They all became SBR's and have regular stocks on them. Only part I am considering is the approval came back "Tax exempt" and "conditional" on the brace rule. If the brace rule is out, does that mean the conditional approval is as well?
  12. Not having much luck. I need to thread a barrel for M14x1 LH for a suppressor on my PSL. I am up the Clarksville area but willing to drive especially if I can coordinate a same-day service. Any suggestions a really good Machinist/gunsmith that can do the job?
  13. sending a PM
  14. Ahh gotcha, ya, the acquire, collect, hoard bug gets us all. LOL. I have a NM M1A I am turning into a M25 clone for Vintage Sniper shooting up here in the NW TN area. The factory SA synth stock has proven to be a great performer but just doesn't feel right. I too like authentic and "weathered" bits on my service rifle assemblies I do.
  15. Tell us about this M21 stock? There are likely a few of us with an M1A that might be interested. LOL
  16. I just did a suppressor this last year. Photo was done at walgreens, fingerprints were done at my local Sheriff's office/County jail. Took them both in the the FFL who assisted filling out the Form 1 and we set it off. 7 months later, ATF sent it back approved. There is a LGS in Clarksville that does it all, for an additional fee of course. Not sure if their turn around time is better since they do E-Form instead of the paper form I did.
  17. Always a fear of mine when dealing with NFA stuff. What happens if the FFL goes under while I am waiting for the ATF to return the stamp.
  18. OK, re-do since server crash...We had the Henry County Gun Club Iron Sight Championships this last weekend out to Doc Tusa's farm. 100 to 500 yards with 600 yard tie breaker. Shot two classes, Vintage Bolt with an 03A3 and modern with an A2 AR. Had great fun. Came in 6th in bolt, 4th in modern. Rob Ski came and shot with us so while he took medals home it was cool to meet him and share some shooting tips. Great end of season fun. Can't wait for next year and a new season!
  19. I will just leave this here...Our Sheriff says "be prepared to defend yourself in LBL" https://www.stewartcountystandard.com/don-t-depend-on-law-enforcement-in-lbl-cms-2029 The Sheriff on the Kentucky side of LBL says the same... https://www.stewartcountystandard.com/ky-sheriff-on-board-with-sc-sheriff-on-not-covering-usfs-property-in-lbl-come-oct-1-cms-2075
  20. Having moved from the west a few years ago there are some things. Lack of public land. There is no millions of acres of BLM or FS land you can wonder on for days. Most hunting is done on private land. If you don't buy some acerage, you might have a difficult time. It is crowded. The days of spending days in the wilderness and not ever seeing another person are long gone here. Deer hunting is stupid easy. At least where I live (north central) I can't go start my car in the morning without shoving deer out of the way. You may be used to planning your deer hunting trip all year, take 2 weeks off work. Go set up camp for opening day, spend all that time in the wilderness to get your one lucky shot to fill your one-deer-a-year mule tag. In TN, it's not like that. You can shoot like 4 a does a day and they are much smaller white tail deer so filling the freezer, if that is your goal, is as simple as walking out on the back porch and nailing one, hang it, butcher it and be done. Kinda takes the fun out in my experience. License, this is the neat thing. If you are on your property, no license or tag required. Simply check the season dates in your area and have at it. No need to buy anything other than ammo. Lesson here is buy as much land as you can. There are places like LBL and Fort Campbell in my area where you can get on public land but there are restrictions to short range, muzzle loader, archery and the like and there will be other people around. Sometimes, lots of people around. Tennessee is not as gun friendly as others would have you believe. You wonder into any metro area with a gun in your back window, expect to have a talk with the local police. Nothing like living in the west at all where that won't even get a second glance. Range time. Like hunting, there is no going off on some corner of public land and shooting. This will also be met by local police/Sheriff with a frown on thier face. I know this one first hand. Again, buy a large chunk of land off in the county away from any metro and choose one with good back stops. Distance shooting. There are no 300-500 yard deer shots here. The forrest is too thick. I have never shot a deer past 75 yards since I have been here. There will be no need for a scoped belted magnum. Your experience may vary, but this has been mine. That said, I do like it here much better than the high plains desert of the west but set your self up in your plans and property searching.
