Planning to buy a reloading press?
Hershmeister replied to THE COOP's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Buy a 550 if you plan on doing any rifle reloads. The square deal is too limited IMHO. -
Watching a 550 in action definetly helped sell me on it. I bought mine as my first reloading rig after getting some hands on time. I'd be happy to show off how one works to a fellow tgo member. I'm in Lebanon. Pm me if interested.

There seems to be a LOT of opinions out there and I am looking for some solid advice. When I clean my rifles, usual situation is a patch of Hoppes, followed by dry patches - occasionally a bore brush too. My problem is that I usually can't seem to completely get the patches all the way clean. There's always just a little teemy bit of fouling on the final patch. I'll use patch-out as well every now and then to deal with the copper. Am I expecting too much and I should accept that the rifle will never be 100% clean? Or am I just not doing it right? help!

or use Hornady One Shot and you dont have to worry about cleaning the lube off....

shot a friends Judge and the first 410 round got stuck in the cylinder due to the brass expanding. Had to beat the cylinder out! Watchword is to find the right shot shells that will cooperate with the gun

Can a city partial opt-out?
Hershmeister replied to cybernorris's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Lebanon is defining a park as essentially the area beyond the parking lot in a resolution to be discussed at tonites city council meeting -
I am not a lawyer, but there were two issues with the original resolution 1) defining where does the park boundry begin? Does it include or exclude the parking lot? 2) the original resolution banned guns on city property. Does this include sidewalks? This new resolution would better clarify the intent of the original and also expand our guns rights (slightly). It beats leaving it alone.

Well, sort of. Council member Cathy Warmath is introducing a resolution tommorow (9/1) that would at make the park carry ban only apply when you are actually IN the boundry of apark or ballfield. This would at least allow you to have your carry weapon with you on the way to a park and leave it in the car without breaking the law. Due to the overly broad language of the original resolution, one could possibly have inferred that walking on a sidewalk with a concealed hangun and permit would have violated the law since it was city property. Additionally, this resolution would allow the legal carrying of handguns to carry on a walking trail (other than the one at Don Fox park) Please attend the City Council Meeting at 6pm on Tuesday 9/1 at City Hall and show your support. They allow citizen comment at the beginning of the meeting for all topics, so you must be there at 6pm in order to get your two cents in. You are not allowed to talk once the proceedings get underway. Its not all of what we want, but its better than the current law that would go into effect.

A little ammo to fight anti-gun Legislation.
Hershmeister replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
the scoundrels rally around "protecting the children" while they ignore the rights that the people enumerated in the law of the land (State and Federal Constitutions). Its as simple as that. -
Major bummer - not well advertised either - sadly I was out of town and couldn't make it. Good news - Councilperson Cathy Warmath and William Farmer both voted no on the ban. They are to be commended - the rest.....welll, next election they will have to face their anti-2nd amendment record. Where was the NRA on notifying folks about this meeting - very dissapointing that they missed it - the Mt. Juliet meeting they sent out postcards and got a good turnout.

Proposed Lebanon ban on park carry
Hershmeister replied to Hershmeister's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Looks like they pulled the ordinance from the agenda News in Wilson County TN | News Weather Sports Obituaries Classifieds Lifestyle | Lebanon Mt. Juliet Watertown - Council considers, but does not pass, a reduction in force measure -
I was out of town earlier this week, and saw on the city website that City Councilperson Kevin Hudleson placed the following on the July 21st City Council meeting agenda. did anyone attend or see what happened? Did it get seconded? Resolution No. 09-1439, to prohibit handguns in public municipal parks, natural areas, nature trails, campgrounds, or other similar public places, by Councilor Kevin Huddleston.

I hope no gun owner ever goes to the Nashville Palace - good grief I for one do think Doug Jackson is a hero
-
it is truly astonishing how many elected official and law enforcement personnel will say they support gun rights and then follow that up with a BUT and then a statement about how a particular circumstance doesnt qualify. Either you Support the 2nd Amendment or you DON'T. Its one of the most clearly written laws in our country, and the ONLY way to change it is through a Consitutional Amendment ratified by 3/4 of the states, not though a city council.

On June 16th Nashville City Council held their first reading of a bill to band park carry in Metro Nashville/Davidson county parks. It had a 26 - 9 vote for passing the ban on the first reading. There were also 2 abstentions and 3 absences. Interestingly many aye votes stated they were not in favor of the bill but wanted to acknowledge the committe meetings that could occur after a first reading - so dont consider this bill as a sure thing to pass! the following link has the roll call vote - CONTACT THE CITY COUNCIL and educate them - it has to be read two more times before it becomes a law. They meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month. http://www.nashville.gov/mc/pdfs/roll_call_votes/bl2009_489.pdf you can contact councilmembers (all in one message even!) using the following link: Nashville.gov - Metro Council Feedback Form be sure to reference ORDINANCE NO. BL2009-489 - the park handgun carry ban bill you can view the seven minutes of archived video debate at the 50 minute mark into the video (use the slide bar to skip all the otherstuff) at the June 16th link on the following weblink. The Wilson Post ran a story June 3 titled "Officials Oppose Gun Law" regarding the park carry bill, and published my letter in the June 5 edition. The original article is not on their website, but my letter is. No word yet if any municipality in Wilson County is considering an ordinance banning carry guns from parks. The good news was that the Mt. Juliet officials were in favor of allowing carry by 3:1. Lebanon is a bit more shaky based on the comments and Watertown is an unknown. link: News in Wilson County TN | News Weather Sports Obituaries Classifieds Lifestyle | Lebanon Mt. Juliet Watertown - Writer asks local officials to consider guns in parks bill carefully (text below) To the Editor, The second amendment is clear in affirming an individual's right to keep and bear arms. I was disappointed to see several elected officials claim to support gun rights but simultaneously seek to abridge that right. The flaw in the argument of those who oppose allowing handgun carry permit holders to carry in parks is that a criminal by definition does not follow the law. The criminal knows with great certainty that preying upon people in parks means attacking unarmed law abiding citizens - including those same children who many of our misguided elected officials claim to be so interested in protecting. My thanks to the officials who publicly stated their support of the law in the article. For those others, please consider this issue with great care and thought. It is rare to see the Second Amendment as a local issue - but today it is. At the next election it is my sincere hope that those who serve the public will proudly state they supported one of our most essential American liberties.
