  1. Let me do a count of steel vs aluminum. I’ll get back to you.
  2. To be on the line at Knob Creek at night with one of these. BL-C2 powder with magnum primers. You would light up the night.
  3. I had a G3 converted to a HK 51 Fire Dragon. It is considered the smallest true machine gun anywhere. The blast from the 6” barrel was just too much and you had to screw your heels in the ground. Anyway, I sold it years ago to a Special Forces guy. I have a number of G3 mags stored away. PM me if interested.
  4. I paid $25 for my original 1942 Mauser sniper (no scope). $35 for my factory fresh hex receiver Mosins. $125 each for 10 Winchesters and Rockollas. $85 for my SKS with a case of ammo thrown in. Yes, those were the days. My first Garand cost $135.
  5. I just checked and the yellow box has steel case bullet heads. On another note, can anyone fill me on a unopened cast of 7.62x39 South African? I’ve had it laying around for years to shoot in my SKS’s and AK’s if I ever get around to shooting them. Thanks.
  6. Tell me about it. I have a 1939 Packard 110 business coupe I finished about 15 years ago. Now I’m restoring a 1938 Lincoln Zephyr three window coupe. Parts are almost impossible to source. They will bury me in this car as it’s my final restoration.
  7. As soon as I figure out how to take this thing apart, I will provide pics. Thanks for above information. BTW, I also picked up a Chinese SKS with the mod for a detachable mag.
  8. I just acquired a AK47 under folder. The receiver is marked ‘Armory USA’ on bottom, ‘SIA Gardnrvl’ on left side of receiver, and ‘MOD AUSA’, serial number 1913 on right side. Anyone got a clue to what I have? Thanks.
  9. Talk about a can of worms! Look on YouTube for a short film on making primers. The cost will be very high, the over site by Uncle Sam will be high, the dangers of the primmer compound will be high. Then try to get insurance. Not to nag, but you should have stocked up.
  10. Is there a maximum powder storage limit in Tennessee?
  11. You can check over on the CMP web site in ‘for sale or trade’. I see .45 show up often. As to “ per robbery “, I’ll let you be the judge on that.
  12. Well, on some of the different forums I’m unloading some ammo. It’s mostly collector ammo like armor piercing incendiary, tracer, and AP. I have no use for this ammo as I’m old and I’d like a younger generation to have it.
  13. The serial number on the Garand would put the date of manufacture after the Korean conflict, around 1954 or 55. Can you gauge the muzzle and breech? What is the date on the barrel? Is there a cartouche on the left side of the stock at the receiver?
  14. Capacitors have physical limits. I once worked on a CO2 gas laser used to make holes in industrial diamonds to thread very small wire through. It had .2 Farad capacitor and was huge. I think another technology might be better like a rail gun. We did research on rail guns where I retired from. The projectile would melt in normal atmospheric pressure. This was in the “Star Wars” experiments.
  15. I’m not a Microsoft guy. I had enough of that stuff while working a the National Lab at Oak Ridge. Tell me how to post pics from an iPad?
  16. If you know the serial number of your grandpa’s .45 then there are several ways to trace. Not precise but can nail it down to where it went.
  17. They are working through the second drawing. I believe there will be a third and maybe a fourth. If I wanted one of these, i would have my paperwork together and get in the mail when they say…send it. Now to add a few more Garands to the collection.
  18. I was lucky enough to receive from the CMP a service grade, all matching 1945 Colt 1911A1. The slide and frame finish matches correctly and all the internals are correct for the year. I wanted to give the CMP a big shout out from one who collects U.S. military. For those of you who want a piece of our military history, check out the CMP website. The minute this .45 touched my hands the price doubled or tripled. You cant beat that anywhere I know of. After I pass I’d love to be a fly on the wall watching the fight from my nephews as to get this weapon.
  19. My company (Hawkeye’’s Refinishing) was a vendor there several years ago. On Sunday we could purchase any rifle caliper for 12 cents or less by case price. 8mm went from 6 to 8 cents a round, .308 about 10 cents. Boy, for the good old days. It just got to be just a zoo with the kids, dogs, and of course the strippers.
  20. I sold any flavor primers for $35 to $40 a brick last winter. Hope I helped out so guys don’t have to pay $7.00/hundred plus tax. We need to set up a “hotline” on here to give guys an idea where primers can be found, quantity, price. Guys can then decide just how bad they need them. Others like myself can hole out and let the ‘desperados’ get what they need.
  21. My choice for a clays gun was SKB. Bought many years ago so I don’t know if they are still available.
  22. This is Bob inKnoxville. There is a guy on a Garand forum site who wants to buy some cans. Can you PM me with some contact information and I will pass it along. thanks, Bob
  23. Heard back from CMP. Five month waiting period. Not Christmas but maybe in my Easter basket.
