  1. Trying to get set up for next year folks... Being new to the state I have zero connections out here, does anyone have a good source for securing a hunting lease? Prefer eastern TN, definitely east of Nash.
  2. Agreed, that's why I said it should be made available for those that desire it Dave. In the end, we are (and should be) responsible for knowing the laws. And yes, at this point the 2A is treated as a privilege vs. a right.
  3. Exactly... In CA it was common for us to have a couple out of state permits (I have UT and AZ) to add to the number of states we could ride through without having to worry about concealment and storage etc. They are a bit redundant with my TN permit, but I think UT gets me WA and TN doesn't so I'll probably renew that one when the day comes. In fact for the $50 or whatever it is I'll probably just renew them both. The states with constitutional carry have all kept their permit system in place as far as I know. Exception being Vermont, since I don't think they ever had one. And while I am as 2A as they get, I am not against having classes in place for those that desire to get educated on the laws and having the shoot/don't shoot scenario training. Having constitutional carry won't make it legal to carry in a post office or Amtrack or whatever. Should you be able to carry without all that stuff? Yeah I think so, but anyone that chooses to would be doing themselves and others a huge favor to be education in the legal and safety aspects.
  4. Question about paying the $200 to upgrade from the 8 year permit to lifetime. Does anyone know they run another background etc... or is it just pay and you're good? I only ask because of that denial BS I just went through, yeah it was overturned promptly... But I still have no clue what happened there. In light of slow Joe and Kamaltoe looming, I'd prefer just to pay and get the lifetime permit but I don't want to see it get hung up, denied, whatever right? I mean I got the permit in like 12 days, ridiculously fast, and I still have nearly 8 years left... but for $200 I'd just like to end it once and for all if all it take is paying and getting the upgrade.
  5. Yeah I think having a permit system still in place is a good thing for those of us that travel a lot.
  6. Well I am too new around here to post a spirited objection, so I will just ask you how you think they will figure out how many felons and gangbangers purchased a non serialized item. Shall not be infringed.
  7. Thanks folks, yeah I was kind of leaning the same way. I can probably keep the box from getting any worse... and if I was to repair it, I can never really un-repair it right? And for some reason I agree fixing the bottom would be okay, but the logo'd part, leave it be. As is always the issue with stuff like this, shoot it? I don't have many guns I don't shoot, but I don't usually buy old guns that haven't been shot. I usually lean towards classics that are in A- condition so no guilt in enjoying it. I paid $1,400 for it so I mean it's not like if I shoot it I lose a thousand bucks or anything... I need to look it over a bit close tomorrow in some good light.
  8. So now that the TBI/TICS denial was overturned (jeeeeze) this is what I was waiting on. I picked up this nearly flawless Colt Commander from 1970 according to the Colt website. Very little evidence of it being fired outside of the factory. A little wear on the trigger, but not much else... Any apparent flaws in the pic are glare or dust, no wear on the slide or frame at all. Blueing typical of Colts I have seen from this era has become slightly plum colored on the slide. Factory box shows an original; price of $125 marked down to $104. The box shows it's age, but the cosmo paper and the original instructions are there. Question for you Colt guys, is it taboo to repair the box a bit? I mean obviously anything done to the gun is off limits to purists, but what about box repairs?
  9. UPDATE - Denial overturned. Happy, yes of course... but WTF right? FFL said when I swing by to pick up my unfired 1970 Colt Commander today he'll give me as much info as he can. THANK YOU EVERYBODY here for the words of encouragement and advice, and as suggested I'll apply for my 03 C&R and see if we can get to the bottom of this. I don't have a super common name, but it's not "rare" or anything and several people in CA share my name and even one with the same middle name so who knows? But my FFL said the TBI lady seemed pretty confident in saying it could be overturned from the get-go so I need to keep this from happening in the future. This really messed with my head and had me questioning my move to Tennessee for a bit. Again, thank you and stay tuned.... I'll add more when I get more.
  10. Well my FFL just called me and I got all excited... for naught. He called TICS today and they told him they have 15 days and they are "still working on this one" but it could be longer... you guessed it, because of COVID. My FFL did say however he would give me the gun if he gets a "conditional proceed" so that's a positive I guess.
  11. I called the dealer last week on day 7 Dave, hate to keep bugging the guy. I asked him how TICS would notify him and he didn't really seem to know. He's an extremely nice guy and sympathetic to the situation, but he's a rather new (April '19) FFL and I am sure really cautious and unsure how to handle it. Is it 15 days from the transaction date or the day they start the appeal? I FAX'd it to them that night, also sent it by snail mail just in case. Yeah I am aware by day 30 the 4473 is no longer valid and would have to try again... and what get denied again right? Or maybe not I suppose. Really frustrating.
  12. Well day 11 and still no info, this is no fun at all. My fear is a "conditional proceed" in which my FFL will probably say no to. So I have this beautiful 1970 Colt Commander sitting in his safe that I already paid for through Gunbroker. No clue what to do from there... jeeeze.
  13. Thank you Robin, and everyone else that has added to the thread... seriously appreciated. I can't remember a time when I have felt so dejected in the last several years, it's really getting me down. Everything we do has consequences, but you kind of figure after all these years (or whatever is holding this up) that you've paid your debt and are among free citizens. I moved from CA to TN to escape government oppressiveness, but jeeeeze even CA never denied me the right to purchase a firearm. This just isn't something I expected in my wildest dreams after moving to the volunteer state which was a dream for me since I rode through here in the motorcycle in 2007.
  14. Sent to the FFL how, electronically I hope? Yeah I would think if I actually had a disqualifying offense I never would have been given all the CCW's I have over the last decade. Your suggestion of a C&R application was taken to heart Dave, that's my next course of action after this clears up.
  15. No it didn't ask for my permit or anything like that Dave, and I really didn't need them saying "oh yeah, well now that's invalid!" or something ridiculous like that. How do I know if my appeal is done? I don't want to get a lawyer involved if I don't have to obviously, if I am going to spend that kind of money I'd rather buy a Barrett! But we can't have this happening every time I try to buy through an FFL. FWIW I just paid a wasted $30 to TORIS to see my TN background, nothing of course. Grasping at straws here... Getting your history from CA is a hassle to say the least, fingerprint cards and a month or two. I'll go that route if I have to but good Lord I hope it resolves before it comes to that.
  16. Thank you Robin, any details as to the reason for denial or what the final outcome was?
  17. Man this crap is making me feel less than human. The TICS appeal line is a recording, do you think if I hit one of the other options I could get a live person that might point me in the right direction to help them clear this up? I'd pay a lawyer whatever if need be, I just don't ever want to have to go through this again.
  18. Been too warm in Jonesborough, I had a couple 8pt beauts on my property a month ago I caught on the camera, I know they're here. Been seeing does the last few days but no bucks. I think Mon/Tues is going to be it... Nice buck Greg, if one like that walks by me I have a Henry .44 magnum waiting.
  19. ^^^^ Yeah, stuff like that building is annoying I agree, and yes it's time for Wayne to go, it was time five years ago. NRA Benefactor Lifer here... the turmoil is annoying as is their incessant begging, but they are still the big dog on the block. I'm a GOA - CRPA - and VCDL supporter too from time to time, but I just can't but feel without the NRA we are screwed.
  20. Around 1987-ish I was arrested on a DoVi - totally fabricated by a vengeful (ex) wife during a divorce. Damn if I didn't almost plead guilty to that just to take the easy route... no jail and pay a fine + anger classes right? Something told me deep inside the day of the plea bargain "you're not guilty, make them try you" and so I withdrew my plea. I said you know what I'll take my chances with a jury because I didn't do this, let's put that beooootch on the stand. Well, she didn't show up to court and they dismissed it. I am wondering if that might be the culprit? So I faxed the appeal by eFax, I guess all I can do now is wait. I checked every SoCal court record I could online today in the four counties I lived around, nothing of course. This just makes me feel so low... like I am a crook or something, just awful. Oh well. Went out and shot for a while today, just couldn't get in the mood. Woe is me.
  21. I read about your experience earlier today Dave, thank you. I guess the real head-scratchers for me were the prior TN approvals in the last few weeks, what changed? And of course this happens on a weekend... I want to call CA and see if there's something, but I just cannot even imagine what. I mean seriously, 29 years of sobriety and a perfect DMV and police record.
  22. The FFL told me the TBI lady told him it was "something out of California" which of course makes sense since I lived there 50 years... Something sort of interesting, when my GF and I got out CCW's last month mine did take about 4 days longer to approve, but it was approved and rather quickly... to me anyway. Application to card in wallet was probably three weeks or less. I just surrendered my CA ccw after getting TN, but I also hold Arizona and Utah non-resident permits (common for CA residents because they offer greater reciprocity than CA alone). Never an issue there or with any other gun purchase.
  23. Just not a Taurus fan, I'd personally move them both for something more pleasant to shoot.
  24. Thanks. Yeah, I stumbled upon another member here with a very similar story last April and that's how I found the site. Seems they just released the handgun after a couple weeks of hassles and some phone calls. Like I said, for some reason the TBI lady on the phone with my FFL seemed to indicate to him that it would likely be cleared up, but you know how we are... we want answers!
  25. Yeah I don't know Raoul, I mean dozens of purchases over the years and CCW's in four states... Hard to imagine what wasn't cleaned up. I guess if TN had denied my first couple of purchase or denied my CCW I would agree but this sure seems out of the blue. Stay tuned I guess. What really sucks is that is was a GunBroker purchase so I'm out the $1,400 until we get it cleared up. Not the end if the world, but certainly enough to annoy me.
