  1. Jeez, Louise! Those stinking Texans! I wonder if there's an ounce of seriousness in proposing this bill, or if it's entirely a show to get a few of those Bloomberg dollars. Either way, it's an abomination that such a bill could even be introduced. I see there are no co-sponsors, which means it has no chance of getting any consideration, but it goes to show ya what some in our government would do to us.
  2. I like and agree with what Charlton Heston had to say about it.
  3. A friend sent me this video. I wish more people from the "majority" would stand up in city counsels the way this fellow did. I'd like to shake his hand. 1960767221_COMEHELLORHIGHWATER(2).mp4
  4. One caveat to the excellent responses above: If you could reasonably expect that person to be in your home, you can't shoot them. For example, locking out a deadbeat roommate who consequently breaks in would not be justifiable cause.
  5. This piqued my interest, so I took a look at a few different manuals. My Speer manual has loads for both SP and SPM primers. Another manual shows loads for only small pistol primers. So as usual, follow the data in the reloading manual and if you experiment with different components pay close attention for signs of overpressure.
  6. It doesn't take much at all to reload. My wife and I rented a small condo while we built the house we live in now, and I used a Lee hand press and dippers to load 9mm while sitting on the porch swing out back. It's slow, but it works just fine.
  7. My wife and I moved to TN two years ago from Washington. I grew up there and miss the [real] mountains and saltwater, but Tennessee suits us so much better. People here have been friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The political climate suits me FAR better than what Washington has turned into. But it sure does rain a lot here! We bought 20 wooded acres and built a log home. It cost a lot more than we anticipated, but in the end we think it's worth it. Resale means nothing to us, as we expect to remain here until we die. Of course I expected my last place in Washington to be our last place, too. Interestingly, when we started to build several of the neighbors stopped by and pretty early in the conversations we were asked about our politics. It's pretty clear that the people around me are not interested in experiencing a "Californiafication". And I sure understand that, as Californiafication is a big part of what wrecked Washington for me.
  8. I was at the VA clinic on Friday, and the nurse who drew blood told me she'd had her first shot the day before. She said she was achy and tired, but able to work. I'm sure the Motrin is to combat the achiness. VA is still doing an age group older than mine, but as soon as it's available to me, I'm in.
  9. I remember when Aaron hit that HR. I was in high school and there was a lot of anticipation of that record falling. I've never been a big baseball fan, but Aaron sure caught my attention then.
  10. No, that is NOT capitalism, it's profiteering. Capitalism assumes adding value. People who wait on line to buy ammo, then sell it two hours later are contributing mightily to the whole problem. At best it's unethical.
  11. In another month I'm going to put a box of .22, a couple of 50 BMG, and a box of 9mm up for $20K. Or I might trade for a Ferrari.
  12. From an old Colt Industries pamphlet: "Percussion caps are now made in sizes from nine to thirteen. Ten and eleven are the best numbers for the small and medium-sized arms, and twelve for the larger sizes, although, as different-sized nipples are sometimes met in specimens of the same model, no hard and fast rule can be given. It is better to have caps slightly too large than too small, as large caps can be pinched together at the bottom enough so they will stay on the nipples, but small ones must be driven down on the nipple by the blow of the hammer, and this process frequently cushions the blow to the extent of producing a misfire." I understand that power is the same regardless of the size. Some people recommend replacing the stock nipples on your BP firearm with a nipple of known size.
  13. No good deed goes unpunished.
  14. Never heard of it until seeing it here an hour ago. Amazing! They have records of my mother's family going back over 1000 years. Very cool!
  15. Raoul is right on the money, here. Components are unobtanium at anything approaching reasonable prices. Powder is in low supply, brass is hard to find. And reloading equipment is commanding premium prices right now. If I were interested in starting out right now, I'd try hard to hold off until supplies normalize again. The problem with that, of course, is that we could be looking at a new normal.
  16. True enough if we're talking about non-essential items like ammo or components. Not so true if we're talking about essentials after a disaster. I'm thoroughly disgusted with the current market for ammo and components, and I'm trying not to participate. Another thread here on TGO linked to a GB ad in which a 525 box of .22 ammo was bid up to $250. That strikes me as insane, but it was an auction and no one was forced to bid. Honestly, I'm dismayed by the whole thing.
  17. I read an article this morning that says a big donor from Nashville is suing to remove $64M from the NRA's bankruptcy actions. This guy donating $100,000, then found out that WLP spent hundreds of thousands on luxury vacations and high-end suits. I'm a long-time life member, with some of those meaningless add-ons, and I value the political efforts of the NRA. BUT.... I've had it with the internal politics of the organization. It's long past time for WLP to go. I remember when he made the infamous "jackbooted thugs" remark that caused George Bush to resign, and didn't care for it then. But the NRA has long been the big-boy on the block when it comes to lobbying for our gun rights. One of things that bothers me most is that the NRA has not addressed all these allegations and problems in their monthly magazines. Oh, they've sung the praises of Wayne, but I think they owe the members a detailed explanation. I don't think we'll get that before a change in management, and probably not at all. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/16/nra-donor-bankruptcy-dave-dellaquila-wayne-lapierre
  18. I guess when it hits $1.00 a round for .22 I'll let go of a 525 pack. Geez, I hate this! I used to be just fine with going to the range and shooting 100 rounds of whatever. Now I'm trying to just shoot enough to keep current. It sucks.
  19. SURELY no one is really going to pay fifty cents a round (plus shipping!) for .22 ammo!!!! Could some of these stupid-high bids be people who are just screwing with the sellers?
  20. Eggs Zacktly! The mayors of those cities were willing to drive their economies into the ground, and now that the political reason for a shutdown no longer exists, they want their economies running again. The conditions you cited existed months ago, right? But the timing of the desire to reopen the economies is suspect in my eyes. There appears to have been a political reason for keeping the economies down. The stated reason for shutting down, Covid, still exists and isn't showing any sign of going away. Why reopen now? If the people were in so much danger from the virus six months ago that the economy had do be sacrificed, why not now? What suddenly changed?
  21. I read today that the mayors of New York and Chicago are now both in favor of immediately re-opening their economies. I have no doubt that Covid is a serious problem, but I also have no doubt that a large part of the government response was political. Now that DJT is about to be out of office, it's suddenly okay to get the economy running again? Wouldn't it be nice to trust government to do what's right for the people instead of for their party?
  22. My buddy and I built illegal CW transmitters so we could send Morse code at 15 watts or so the three blocks between our houses. We didn't know we needed licenses, and I know that every TV in town was pulsing and clicking with every character we sent. It was fun for the short time until my dad figured it out. I think he was pleased I was able to build the transmitter, but not so much that I actually used it.
  23. I've been a ham for years. The last thing to fail is good old CW (Morse Code). There are some more modern digital modes that work through heavy noise, but those require a computer. CW just requires a key and a bit of practice. And apart from the emergency aspect of it, ham is an enjoyable hobby. de KC7TEN
  24. About a year ago I bought a Ruger Precision Rimfire in .22 LR and I love it. It's more accurate than I am, and you can't (at least couldn't) beat a .22 for cheap. I also have a couple of Armi Jager AK-22's, one in .22 LR and the other in .22 Mag, neither of which have been fired much. Ruger 10-22 which I rarely shoot. Marlin lever-action in 22 Mag. My first rifle ever, a Nylon 66 that I bought when I was 15 and still shoot fairly often. And a small brace of 22 handguns as well.
  25. I wonder how much it would cost to open a primer manufacturing facility. Wowzer! $400 a case for primers. Who'd a thunk it?
