Quite a bit of tax liability, according to the rules. You'd have to pay Tennessee about $850 in sales tax, and claim the $8500 as income on your federal return. At 20% that's another $1700. So you have to come up with $2500 just to claim the prize. I notice that it says nothing about shipping, either, though I admit I only scanned the rules. So $2500 for 14K rounds is about $0.18 / round. Still a darned good price, even at pre-panic prices. I wonder how much Brownell's will get for the long e-mail list of gun-owners that they're going to collect. Those e-mail addresses are probably worth a penny a piece to other retailers. And how much spam are you going to get after putting your name on the list? What the hey, I'll enter anyway! -

Apparently it's all gone now. I'd have gone for that deal on 3600 "Blems". Too bad. -
95 year old man and his father's 1911 service weapon from WW1?
Darrell replied to Swamp ash's topic in General Chat
I doubt that the penal system is equipped at all to deal to a 95-year old who needs assisted living arrangements. Just guess, I would think they'll send him right back to another similar facility, but without access to any weapons. It seems odd that he was allowed to keep firearms at all in a place like that, and another guess is that the staffer's family is going to sue the facility. -
Thanks all. There's a local cell-phone store that's a PagePlus vendor and I went there and asked for something that would work. The nice young lady at the desk did all the transfer stuff, and the new phone seems to work.

The problem is that no amount of "common sense" gun control will EVER be enough. Whatever "compromise" gun-rights folks are willing to make simply becomes the new normal and the anti-gunners begin again at that point. The progression is steadily against our right to keep and bear arms. I would LOVE to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them, but the solutions the left champion infringe on the rights of the law-abiding. I think most of us agree that those who use guns in the commission of a crime should be punished to the full-extent of the law, but the left seems to want to protect criminals. It's frustrating!

OK, I admit that I hate cell-phones, and consider them to be a necessary evil. My old phone is an ancient Kyocera that does everything I want it to do, which isn't much, but it's just about worn out with flakey buttons. I use my phone infrequently, it's mostly just in case of emergencies, but people I know like to send texts. I use a pay-as-you go plan, and just about always have money left over at the end of the 90-day period I pay for. So my question is: What do I need to know before I buy a new phone? What I want to be able to do is just to take the SIM card out of the old one, stick it in the new one, and carry on without drama. Can that be done? My cell-phone carrier, PagePlus, offers some phones on their website, but they're sold through an outside vendor so there isn't much help there. I want as little effort as possible in switching phones and would appreciate informed advice. Thanks!

My wife got the first of two vaccinations yesterday. Cumberland county is using a drive-through system and she got the shot while sitting in the truck. The only side-effect, as of this morning, is a good deal of tenderness at the injection site, but no joint pain and no headache.

This from Senator Durbin yesterday. He's on the Senate Judicial Committee: Senator Dick Durbin @SenatorDurbin · Feb 1 More than 100 Americans die every day from gun violence. This #GVSurvivorsWeek, we recognize survivors of gun violence & remember all those we have lost. We have a lot of work to do to make this country a safer place. I will do all I can to reduce deadly shootings & save lives.

Jeez, Louise! Those stinking Texans! I wonder if there's an ounce of seriousness in proposing this bill, or if it's entirely a show to get a few of those Bloomberg dollars. Either way, it's an abomination that such a bill could even be introduced. I see there are no co-sponsors, which means it has no chance of getting any consideration, but it goes to show ya what some in our government would do to us.

A friend sent me this video. I wish more people from the "majority" would stand up in city counsels the way this fellow did. I'd like to shake his hand. 1960767221_COMEHELLORHIGHWATER(2).mp4

This piqued my interest, so I took a look at a few different manuals. My Speer manual has loads for both SP and SPM primers. Another manual shows loads for only small pistol primers. So as usual, follow the data in the reloading manual and if you experiment with different components pay close attention for signs of overpressure.

It doesn't take much at all to reload. My wife and I rented a small condo while we built the house we live in now, and I used a Lee hand press and dippers to load 9mm while sitting on the porch swing out back. It's slow, but it works just fine.

U-Haul says TN saw the most one way rentals in 2020
Darrell replied to Erik88's topic in General Chat
My wife and I moved to TN two years ago from Washington. I grew up there and miss the [real] mountains and saltwater, but Tennessee suits us so much better. People here have been friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The political climate suits me FAR better than what Washington has turned into. But it sure does rain a lot here! We bought 20 wooded acres and built a log home. It cost a lot more than we anticipated, but in the end we think it's worth it. Resale means nothing to us, as we expect to remain here until we die. Of course I expected my last place in Washington to be our last place, too. Interestingly, when we started to build several of the neighbors stopped by and pretty early in the conversations we were asked about our politics. It's pretty clear that the people around me are not interested in experiencing a "Californiafication". And I sure understand that, as Californiafication is a big part of what wrecked Washington for me. -
I was at the VA clinic on Friday, and the nurse who drew blood told me she'd had her first shot the day before. She said she was achy and tired, but able to work. I'm sure the Motrin is to combat the achiness. VA is still doing an age group older than mine, but as soon as it's available to me, I'm in.

No, that is NOT capitalism, it's profiteering. Capitalism assumes adding value. People who wait on line to buy ammo, then sell it two hours later are contributing mightily to the whole problem. At best it's unethical.

Darrell replied to Protongunner's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
In another month I'm going to put a box of .22, a couple of 50 BMG, and a box of 9mm up for $20K. Or I might trade for a Ferrari. -
From an old Colt Industries pamphlet: "Percussion caps are now made in sizes from nine to thirteen. Ten and eleven are the best numbers for the small and medium-sized arms, and twelve for the larger sizes, although, as different-sized nipples are sometimes met in specimens of the same model, no hard and fast rule can be given. It is better to have caps slightly too large than too small, as large caps can be pinched together at the bottom enough so they will stay on the nipples, but small ones must be driven down on the nipple by the blow of the hammer, and this process frequently cushions the blow to the extent of producing a misfire." I understand that power is the same regardless of the size. Some people recommend replacing the stock nipples on your BP firearm with a nipple of known size.

Never heard of it until seeing it here an hour ago. Amazing! They have records of my mother's family going back over 1000 years. Very cool!
