  1. Our high today was 32, but I noticed that the roads are wet, not frozen, beneath the snow. I shovelled a walkway and within an hour it was completely clear. Too bad the county doesn't plow the roads out here, they'd be fine by now. I hope that Barlett weather reaches us tomorrow.
  2. I just came in after an hour of riding my wife's quad around in the snow. What a hoot! I'm probably too old for acting like a hooligan (68! How did that happen so quickly?) but I did it anyway. That thing is WAY more fun in 2WD than in 4WD in the snow. And this time of year it's pretty easy to pick a path betweeen the trees, although I did come pretty close to looping it when I found a hole that I couldn't see through the snow. I may have to do that again tomorrow, assuming I can still walk.
  3. I'm not an OSU fan, but their strength of schedule was #23 out of 134 schools. Not really an "easy" schedule, and they beat some pretty good teams on their way to the playoffs.
  4. It's begun here, darn it! No worries, though, so long as the power remains on.
  5. Nothing at my place in Hebbertsburg (near Crossville) yet. I hope it goes around!
  6. No, but attornies are that greedy and aggressive.
  7. In a month or two you'll be enjoying your new firearm and all the hassle will be forgotten. There's no need to keep your blood pressure up over something that's now history. Personally, I've had good luck with Bass Pro and Cabella's, I'm sorry you had a tough time.
  8. I really thought that Georgia was going to win it all, but now I'm thinking Ohio State, although any of the remaining four teams has a legitimate chance. The most important thing for me was that the filthy ducks fell on their faces. I didn't think that AZ State belonged in the playoffs, but clearly I was wrong. They were pretty good and gave Texas all they could handle.
  9. Nice, clean build! I've always wanted to try a bike with a jockey shift. I just picked up bike number 6, a Ducati 749. Maybe when yours is done we can race them for pink slips?
  10. Welcome to the group. I'm in Hebbertsburg, just a skip and a jump from Crossville.
  11. Speak to an attorney. You know who this tresspasser is, a simple letter from an attorney might do the trick. I agree with what Alleycat wrote, too. Posting a picture on the FD's FB page will get the attention of the chief and the commissioners.
  12. Ain't that the truth!? The tractor was just a test load, 5000 pounds or so just to be sure all was well.
  13. Ohio State was far and away the better team, but one thing that struck me was how much leeway the officials gave the DB's from both teams. That was a very physical game and there was a lot of uncalled pass interference both ways.
  14. Well, it's not a firearm, but I'm still pround of it. I've long wanted an automotive hoist, but really didn't have a place to put it. So I finally put up another pole-building specifically to house a lift and give me some space to paint. I got a great deal on a used 12K hoist, but I spent something over $25K on the building, so penny-wise and pound foolish. Anyway, the hoist is now fully assembled and operational. I still have some dirt work to do outside, as the approach is a muddy mess right now. The hoist came with two bridge jacks, and both of those need some work, too. I'm never without plenty of chores and projects.
  15. We woke up to a white lawn and roofs this morning, but the roads are only wet. We had a dusting of snow about a week ago. It was fairly warm yesterday, t-shirt weather, and snow today. Go figure!
  16. Well, it sounds to me as if you're doing things the right way. People have a right to shoot on their own property, but also a responsibilty to be safe about it. You also have right to safely use your own property. If you own the top of the berm that the shooter is using as a backstop, then I think you have a reasonable arguement. You should be able to use 100% of your own property any time you wish. I'd be furious if one of my neighbors moved or obliterated a property line marker. I'd take legal action in a heartbeat.
  17. Maybe it would make more sense to just make a calm explanation of the situation. I think that most of us here are very interested in SAFE firearms use. I shoot on my own property, and so do some of my neighbors. But I definitely expect that my neighbors will be sure of where their rounds are falling, just as I am. It sounds like you have a legitimate concern, but stating that we should "fire on your neighbor" is gross hyperbole.
  18. Wow, Alabama left out! Who'd have thunk it? Interesting to see that Boise St. gets a #3 seed, and that Texas and Penn St. barely dropped with their losses. And it's hard to imagine Arizona St. with the #4 seed. The playoffs should be interesting. My favorite throughout the playoffs will be whichever team is playing against the filthy ducks.
  19. I already had five bikes in the barn, and just bought another one. I'm not a "builder" like you, but I do have the sickness! My bikes tend to run more toward "go fast", but I've often thought of building a bare-bones Triumph hard-tail chopper. Maybe someday.
  20. How many OT's? Wow. Did the riots materialize as you expected?
  21. The situation at Alabama is interesting. Saban never had to pay the big money for players that a lot of other schools did. Top-tier players saw how many Bama players went on the the NFL and quite a few were willing to leave aside the immediate money for the benefit of Saban's coaching. As a result, Alabama wasn't in the right position when the NIL rulings came down. (although they DO have one of the highest "payrolls right now). Tennessee, on the other hand, was quick to respond with a big-money NIL collective. Saban was disdainful of paying players, while a lot of other coaches (think Jimbo) saw it as the way to go. When Saban left Alabama a lot of his best players decided to utilize the portal to leave and get paid a LOT more. 39 players left the program after Saban retired. Yeah, they were still loaded, but that's a wholesale change, and the effect is amplified by the coaching change. My favorite team, the UW Huskies, lost their entire coaching staff and 20 of their 22 starters from 2023 to the portal, graduation, and the draft. They went from playing in the national championship game for 23 to just barely becoming bowl-eligible this year. The teams that are doing best are the teams with the biggest payrolls. Ohio St., Whoregon, and Texas are all at the top of the heap. What a surprise, huh?
  22. He was a good fit at Washington, and I wish he'd shown some loyalty and remained there. There's an old saying that you never want to follow a legendary coach (Saban), you want to follow the guy who followed the legendary coach.
  23. Sixty bucks a pound?!?!?!? Holy crap!
