  1. And bucking the trend as usual: I've always thought six in a revolver is plenty, and revolvers are darned near jamb-proof. And I often carry a .45ACP with 7. I've always thought that THE perfect self-defense weapon is a pump-action 12g. Anyone who hears that distinctive ker-chunk and keeps on coming deserves what will happen next. Hard to conceal, though.....
  2. Yeah, I check twice a DAY, not twice a week. Not sure why I wrote that. Old age I reckon.
  3. I've been checking the Hodgdon site twice a day since I saw this post (three weeks ago) and have yet to see any powder on sale. Does anyone know if there's a particular day of the week or month that Hodgdon adds powder for sale to their site? They'll sell five jugs at a time, so I wonder if there might be interest in a group sale. I want an 8 lb jug of H1000, or better still, Retumbo. There's going to be just one hazmat charge per order, so if anyone else wants some perhaps we can buy the powder and split the hazmat and shipping fee. (This assumes someone who lives near by me.) I've been checking American Reloading pretty often, too. They had some Midwest powder for sale recently, something with which I was unfamiliar. By the time I went to another site to see if the powder they had for sale would work for me and returned, all the powder was sold out. I guess you have to move lightning quick these days!
  4. The story here, whether it's true or not, is that this fellow decided to see if his steel-toed boots would stop a .45 ACP round. (At what, 2 feet?!) Guess not.
  5. And so do I agree. There's an item on Armslist right now that I'd inquire after, and I was on the verge of paying the $7.00 to be able to. But when I went to the page where you pay I found that I must set up an automatic payment, either with a credit card or a direct bank withdrawal. I won't do either of those, even though the site says either can be cancelled at any time. I know that's convenient for a lot of people, but I won't do it.
  6. OK, not a picture but...... I got caught taking a pee in the swimming pool today. The lifeguard shouted at me so loud, I nearly fell in. When you’re seventy -- who cares?
  7. My wife and I decided to move to TN after I retired and after we spent a week driving around the eastern part of the state. I came back a month after that trip and looked at dozens of properties for sale before finding 20 acres in Crab Orchard, just east of Crossville. Both of us feel like we found "home." The neighbors are friendly but not intrusive. There's plenty of shopping in the area to satisfy the boss. And property prices were still reasonable, but are going up FAST. A couple of negatives. I pick up a kitchen-sized bag of trash from my 1000 feet of road front once a week during the summer months, half that much in winter. It really ticks me off. And it's hard to impossible to find anyone to do any kind of work out here, you better be equipped and willing to do it yourownself. I was surprised to find out how rainy and windy it is here (having come from WA), but if you're already in TN that won' be a surprise for you. At any rate, my wife and I could NOT be happier than we are in the Crossville area. I'm retired, so I haven't paid serious attention to the job market, but I notice that an awful lot of older folks are still working around here. I think an ambitious young man with some decent skills in most any area could do well here.
  8. Entered in error.
  9. I watched the whole video and the interviewer only spoke with a few people, and he "lead" them by asking specific questions instead of open-ended. I've no doubt that there are radicals in the country who believe some of the things said in these interviews, but I've also read some unbelievably hateful racist remarks on sites like Breitbart and Infowars. Seems to me that there's a lot of misunderstanding in this country, and that's a shame. A greater shame is that there are people capitalizing on it for personal financial and political profit. One thing I'm certain of is that MSM and institutes of higher learning are indoctrinating [young] people to hate, fear, feel shame, and close their minds, rather than trying to calmly and fairly present all sides of important issues.
  10. The Senate has 50 dems and 50 republicans, a tie that's broken by the cackling VP Harris. But it takes more than a simple majority to break a filibuster, which is now nothing more than a procedural action. So even with their 51 votes in the Senate the dems don't have enough votes to pass DC statehood, an expanded SCOTUS, or, I hope, gun control. The house can pass all the loony crap they want to, but it has to get past the Senate to become law and so long as the republicans stick together they can block legislation. It's much more complicated than that, of course, but in a nutshell, there you go.
  11. I stopped at my local Dunham's today and they had a little bit of ammo on the shelf. 223, 308, 9mm, 12g, 20g, 410, and a bunch of "oddball" stuff. (Bunch being a relative term, a few boxes.) The prices were high, but not Gunbroker high. I'm encouraged that I see a little more ammo a little more often.
  12. This guy is amazing, and darned few of us will ever be able to load an shoot the way he can. But it still proves that magazine capacity does not necessarily equal rounds-on-target./
  13. I've used neither Wolf nor Tula (I shoot my own hand-loads almost entirely). But I know a LOT of it gets burned.
  14. I don't believe that they're dead, but for the time being the republicans in the Senate continue to hold the trump card in the filibuster. As you know, the democrats have been considering elimination of the filibuster, but as of right now Joe Manchin has said he won't support that. I image that there may be one or two other democrats who wouldn't be on-board, either. After all, the senate could swing again as early as next year, when Senator Warnock must stand again. (He filled in the remainder of a term, and was not elected for a full six-year term.) But if the filibuster is eliminated, stand by.

  16. I agree that he spent too many words "axe grinding", but I thought that his overall thesis was valuable and telling.
  17. I believe she absolutely SHOULD go to jail for that.

  19. Every ammunition manufacturer makes reliable ammo. If it's on the store shelf, it's going to meet SAAMI specs and should chamber and fire without any problems. Stay away from old ammo you may find with evidence of corrosion on the case, or from reloaded ammunition from anyone you don't know and trust very well. I load virtually all my own ammunition, but I'd never fire reloads that I found at an estate sale, for example. As the others stated, your particular arms are going to be more or less accurate with different loads, but they aren't talking about hitting or missing the target entirely.
  20. President Joe Biden defended his record on gun control despite spending his energy on infrastructure spending, angrily condemning gun owners for owning weapons with the capacity of holding 20 rounds “Who in God’s name, needs a weapon that can hold 100 rounds, or 40 rounds, or 20 rounds?” he asked. “It’s just wrong.” Biden repeated he strongly supported a ban on assault weapons and even a ban on magazines holding more than ten rounds. “It’s just wrong, and I’m not going to give up until it’s done,” he said. The president blamed the Senate for blocking gun control, demanding that Republicans finally act on the issue. “I continue and I strongly, strongly urge my Republican friends in the Congress who refuse to bring up the House-passed bill,” he said. Biden complained that gun violence had become a “national embarrassment” in the United States. “It’s not only these mass shootings that are occurring, every single day, every single day there’s a mass shooting in the United States if you count all those who are killed on the streets and our rural areas,” he said. Biden claimed that the majority of gun owners in Americans supported the idea of universal background checks and banning sales of assault weapons. “The majority of them think we should not be selling assault weapons,” he said. The question has never been about "need". Your opinion of what you need might vary considerably from what I believe I need. But the 2A doesn't mention need at all. Instead, it specifically prohibits government from infringing our our RIGHT to own and bear firearms. This isn't looking good, folks.
  21. Turns out that the murderer has had firearms seized twice after voicing suicidal thoughts. His mother once called the police because she thought the guy was going to commit "suicide by police." I'm curious to learn how he obtained his firearms when he had a history of mental illness.
  22. Sounds like someone I'd get along with. Add motorcycles, though. I'm a new member, having been here (the forum and Tennessee) less than a year. So far I've had some limited contact with other members and all have been very positive. Every friend I have was once a new acquaintance.
  23. I didn't see your post til just now.... it's out of stock this morning.
  24. Make that four recommendations for Athlon. I have an Ares mounted on an RPR in 338 Lapua and couldn't be happier with it. Caveat: I'm not a competitive shooter, but for long range "plinking" I really like the scope.
  25. I need some slow powder, H1000, Ram Mag or similar. I'm wondering if anyone local has topped at Outdoor Junction recently and if they have any powder in-stock. Gracias!
