This little guy is in my barn this morning. It's sort of chilly, and the snake's not moving about. I'm guessing it's 9" long or so. I looked at pics on-line and reckon it's an Eastern Milk Snake, but I'm relatively new to Tennessee and haven't seen this species before. Maybe a corn snake?

Holy Crap! What's going on with Georgia? Can Alabama be that good? I know Georgia can't be quite that bad.

for-sale BRASS AND BULLETS - BACK UP 09.25.24
Darrell replied to Rockmup's topic in Gear Classifieds
Only you know! I think your location may have something to do with a lack of interest. If you were half an hour from me I would have bought these componants when you first listed them. But Wears Valley is a bit of a drive for me. You're offering a very fair deal, I think, just too far from me. -
I can start one with a flint, a steel, and some homemade tinder. If you cut an old t-shirt into 2" squares, put it into a metal can with some air holes and put the can into a fire the shirt will become the best tinder ever. One spark and it starts burning. For me, though, all bets are off it's raining, which probably defeats 80% of the purpose.

I see open carry from time to time, and honestly, I wish those folks would conceal. We all know that LOTS of people are uncomfortable seeing a sidearm strapped to a hip. My preference is concealed for few reasons: I don't want to call undue attention to myself. I don't want to cause worry to others. I don't like the idea of being the first target if some nutcase decides to start shooting inside a store that I'm visiting. I carry unconcealed when I'm walking in the woods and often on my own property. But in every other circumstance I want to be as discrete as possible. I suspect that a sizeable proportion of those who carry openly do so just because they can, not because it fulfills a necessary purpose.

One of the vendors I sometimes use, American Reloading, is offering factory second primers at what looks like a good price. They're asking $360 for 5000 LR primers. BUT... they're factory seconds. According to the ad, that means that the primers have less than 0.01% low charge. I'm tempted to order 5K, as I'm doubtful such a small variation will cause much trouble for me, but I wonder what the other reloaders think. The only caveat they offer is that the primers are sub-optimum for very low temps. That price includes shipping and Hazmat, by the way.

Question : Would you buy locally made Ammo?
Darrell replied to DraxTheDad's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Bear in mind that you'll need a good supply of projectiles, powder and primers. Seeing how difficult it is to obtain primers, in particular, you should be sure that you have a committed supplier. A second thing to consider is liability insurance. It might make sense to talk to an insurer before committing too much time and money. Good luck with your project! -
wanted .22 bolt action or precision oriented rifle
Darrell replied to Thursty's topic in Firearms Classifieds
I'm not selling mine, but I just came in from putting 100 rounds or so through my Ruger Precision Rimfire. I really enjoy this rifle, it's very accurate and it has some of the adjustability that you seem to be seeking. Bolt-throw, butt-stock length and comb-hight, and trigger pull are all easily adjustable. The price for a new one is fairly reasonable, too. Good luck with your search! -
Wow! Georgia over Kentucky by one?! I didn't see that coming. And KY won the statistical battle, apart from the most important stat... points. I didn't watch the game but think I'll go check the YouTube highlights.

pending Rare Savage 24 in 357mag/20g
Darrell replied to leafinthewind's topic in Firearms Classifieds
I've long wanted one in 30-30 over 20g. This one is tempting, though. -
You bone it in-place and just pack out the meat and the head.

That's a big boy! But I had no idea that's a legal hunting method.

My sis-in-law lives in London, where my brother (RIP) grew up. I hope she and all her friends and loved ones are safe!

^^^^^^ I can't say I've ever been a Texas fan, but I really hope they continue to play well and win against Michigan. The TN game should be good!

I glanced at an article yesterday that said that Ohio State is paying its players $20 MILLION dollars this year. Wow! There were already haves and have-nots in college football, but NIL money is going to spread that divide.

My UW Huskies had a heckuva season last year! National Championship game appearance and the last ever PAC12 champion. I expect much, much less from them this year as virtually the entire team and coaching staff have turned over. AND they are now in the BIG 10, which has, what?, 18 teams? I think they have a great chance to start 5-0, but will be happy if they make a bowl game this year by winning two more. The Filthy Ducks of Whoregon are highly ranked. As always, I hope for a total collapse of the zeros. This year's national champs? I'll take Georgia... again. I honestly think they were the best college team last year, but they slipped against Bama.

I'm curious whether you had the same problem with mags loaded with one or two fewer rounds. I know the gun is gone now, so it's not like you can try it.

Must watch movie/television recommendations & interesting shows

My wife and I just started watching, and the first two episodes are good. I'm learning something, but enjoying it anyway. -
Tennessee shoots down Memphis gun control
Darrell replied to Jpoc700's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I doubt the Memphis city council ever thought that their control push would get past the state, but now they've signaled their virtue and can use it as a campaign tool. -
Sharps 1874, Gemmer style rifle
Darrell replied to Choatecav's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Right! That's something I'd like to master. I've tried it, but my fingers are all thumbs and I've never managed a neat one. -
Sharps 1874, Gemmer style rifle
Darrell replied to Choatecav's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I'm curious if you're using paper patches, or if you intend to. -
A single arrow from a compound bow will kill em dead. Choose a rifle that you can carry in the mountains and fire accurately without flinching.

The scope is handling the recoil without any issues, zero has not had to be readjusted since installing it. I'm getting pretty long-of-tooth, and I don't push way out there, the range I go to has targets out to 400 yards max. But then I can hit those with iron sights, so maybe that's not so impressive. I'd love to be able to shoot out to 1000 yards, but I can barely see that far!

Jeez! A $1000 scope is "budget" optics now? I've always considered $1000 to be a lot of money. But there ya go! I have an Athlon Ares on my 330 Lapua and I'm really happy with it. From what I've read the Strike Eagle line isn't for heavy recoiling rifles, but the Viper seems to be well recommended. Keep us posted on what you find!
