It looks like 9mm and 556 is not worth the money to load
Darrell replied to 2agood's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I'm interested to hear your results. I've not tried cast bullets at high velocities. And even for moderate velocities I use gas checks. I've loaded up some 338 Mag with cast bullets and done fine with reduced loads for plinking. And I really like the Lee Soup Cans for plinking in .308. -
There's an overall memory limit to the images we can post here. Go back to some of your earlier posts and delete the images, and you'll be able to post more. I know this because I ran up against that limit some time ago, and it wasn't entirely clear why, but once you remove some old files you can post new ones. I think the trick is to avoid posting "big" images.

I've been casting for a long time, but have never considered .223. Are you adding tin to your lead pot? Using gas checks? -
Every team plays close games from time to time. The good teams win those games. I'm no Alabama fan, but that win over Auburn in the final seconds was really something.

Woo Wee. My Huskies are the first team ever (and will be the last ever) to go 12-0 in PAC 12 play. It wasn't pretty, but a win's a win. I sure don't look forward to seeing them play against Alabama or Georgia, though. (Assuming they can win their conference championship game next Friday.) What does Garufa say about Alabama? They're the devil!

I spent 25 years as a volunteer fireman / EMT. The fire department will take your gate off its hinges if necessary. There's also something called a "Knox Box" that you can look into. Your local FD may or may not subscribe to that service.

By Golly, Miss Dolly looks pretty dang gummed good for a 77 year old!

I reload because I enjoy the process. Sometimes it feels like I shoot just to get empty cases so I can load em up again! But to each his own. -
I bought the gate (steel, not cast iron) from a company called Alexco out of Seattle. I went with them only because I had two of their gates at my house in Washington before moving here five years ago. They seem to be good quality at a reasonable price, even with shipping. You'll have to touch up the paint once a year or so. The openers are from Ghost Controls. I had the Aleko openers in WA, and was not happy with the quality, as they required frequent repair. Installation is pretty easy for one guy if you have a tractor or something to lift the gates into place. The one thing that I did wrong here was to pave the driveway before installing the gates. I should have run the operator cable under the pavement, but had to run it on top with rubber channels. Still, that acts as a speed bump. Facebook has a few gates on offer, too.

I, too, have a long driveway, about the same length as yours. I installed a solar powered gate out at the entrance, and it works well for me. I open it first thing in the morning, and close it at dusk. So far the only unwanted guests have been solicitors and Seventh Day Adventists. Knock on wood.

Ammo Restrictions Bill Introduced in Senate
Darrell replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This kind of thing already exists in California, you know. One must undergo a background check just to buy a box of ammo. One of my friends was denied recently and he has no idea why. He's a law-abiding veteran with a civil-service job and grandkids, but the state said he couldn't have a box of 380 ammo. I told him to buy a reloading setup to be sure that could never happen again. -
Eye Opening Article about the NRA... Actually Not Really
Darrell replied to Moped's topic in General Chat
One has to think that the NRA is well-aware of the dissatisfaction of its members, and yet WLP remains. I know we are a fairly small sampling, but I think it's likely that we're pretty representative of gun-enthusiasts as a whole. So why does the Board of Directors keep him? Oliver North sounded an alarm and moved to remove WLP, but quickly found himself out instead. WLP must have an iron-clad grip on the organization. I also wonder if the NRA has someone who monitors forums like ours, and why they ignore what seems to a popular opinion among its members. -
I did, in fact, buy a .243 rifle, but I bought a Ruger #1 instead of the Savage. Heck, it was only about a thousand dollars more! I like the rifle, though, and have put about 20 rounds through it in the nine or so months I've owned it. I now have four Ruger #1 rifles, so I suppose I should admit that I really like them.,

And my flawed but fun-to-watch Washington Huskies beat the number 11 Oregon St. Beavers in Corvallis to go 11-0 for the first time since their 1991 National Championship season. At least one of us here..... ME..... is enjoying this college football season!

I've had a few interactions with members here, and every one has been very positive. The guys were personable and the deals went off without a hitch. I think most people are honest and straight-forward, but there will always be the odd elbow in the group. (For those of you who remember Pat McManus.)

Ditto. -
Wow, that's strange! It almost looks like the round fired before it was fully chambered, but that should be impossible. Please keep us updated on what Norma has to say, and good luck to you.

Hodgdon is offering to cover the hazmat charges on orders made this weekend. Use code: VETERANSDAY2023 Their website is here: https://hodgdonpowderco.com/hodgdon/ Also, American Reloading has primers at a "reasonable" price as well as some projectiles. I've purchased from them before and they were trouble-free. https://americanreloading.com/en/ I found some primers locally today for $100 a thousand. Not exactly a good deal, but I bought some anyway.

Man, I wish I could justify that! Good luck with your sale. -
I took my 1989 RD350 to Lake Tansi to play racquetball today. When I stopped to get gas an old guy (about my age!) stopped to chat about the bike. Most people don't know what it is, but he did and we had a nice conversation about two-stroke street bikes. He also offered to sell me a Harley V-Rod, which is tempting, but my garage is too full already. Naturally I found something to fix. The bike has oil injection, and the hose from the oil tank is leaking a bit. Always something!

Man! That must be quite a convey to take so many horses. Or perhaps you have a train? Thanks for supporting our vets, and for your service.

I moved to TN in 2019 and traded in my WA license for a TN license. It has the gold star on it, so they were doing it at least that long ago.

I've never considered hunting deer with a .223, but Barnes offers bullets in their Triple Shock series, and Nosler has Partitions in 223.
