Howdy Tennessee from crazy Oregon!
Darrell replied to smith and Hammer's topic in New Member Introductions
I moved to Tennessee from a small town just north of Olympia five years ago. I miss a LOT about the beautiful Pacific Northwest, but Tennessee suits me better. -
Does TCAT offer individual classes? Like the OP, I'd like to take a couple of classes... stick and MIG. I checked the Crossville TCAT website and it looked to me like they offer a whole certification program. I'd certainly be interested in being able to take a couple of basic classes. I've actually taken a couple of welding classes in the past, and I can stick two pieces of steel together, but a good refresher would help in my case. And save money spent on grinding wheels!

What happens when smokeless powder burns.
Darrell replied to gregintenn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
That's actually not a screw-on lid. To remove it, you press on the center and the lid "pops" outward along the circumference and you just lift it off. To reinstall it, you push in around the circumference and it pops back on again. Pretty clever, really, but manufacturing costs have to be higher than a regular screw-on lid. -

Boy, I stepped in it there, didn't I? I think the lid would blow right off the can of AL-7 below, not so sure about the Unique can. That was actually a pretty good design, and as pressure inside the can goes up, the lid is held tighter. Can you read the price tags on those cans? $2.75. -

Do you remember the old, square metal cans with the pop-top caps? I'm sure the top would just pop off of one of those. Those with twist-on caps would rupture, but remember that an aerosol can [usually] has a flammable propellent inside. I sorta kinda think that a metal can with a twist-on cap might survive a fire like that in the experiment. -

The most interesting part of that video was the well-stocked powder shelves in the "retail establishments"! I did sob just a bit seeing so much powder burned that way. Thanks for sharing! -
As I was driving home yesterday I noticed that my neighbor's mailbox has been demolished. Not just hit with a bat or something... crushed, with the support post torn down. I just don't see what anyone can gain from doing something like that.

I've had an electronic RCBS Chargemaster for many, many years, and it always operates flawlessly. The one caveat is that it's relatively slow, as the last few grains of powder are trickled into the pan. For loading in bulk I still use an RCBS volume dispenser. It's old, but it works like a champ and is very fast.

https://dnyuz.com/2024/01/02/lapierre-longtime-n-r-a-leader-faces-trial-that-could-end-his-reign/ This one is kinda tough for me. I've long thought that it's way past time for Wayne LaPierra to go from the NRA, but on the other hand, having government trying so hard to hurt a gun-rights organization scares me.

Why, the Huskies, of course!
-
I'm feeling pretty sure that two of the three best teams in the country are in the championship. I think Georgia is the third. I'm tickled that my Huskies are in! They made the end of their game scary, though!
-
I think it's very relevant. Fans pay big bucks to go to the games... hotels, transportation, tickets, food, etc. They deserve to see the teams that earned the trip. Sponsors pay millions of dollars to advertise during the games, money that ultimately comes from the consumers' pockets. If I pay for a box of primers, I don't expect half of them to be missing when I open it up. Even Georgia's players were cheated by that game. They had something to prove, but their effort will be discounted because of the lack of competition. Mind you, I understand why top players might opt out of a non-CFP bowl game, but all those opt-outs are very relevant to the quality of the game that the fans see, and in which the players participate.
-
I believe Florida St, had 20 or 22 opt-outs for the game. So many of the bowl games have become glorified scrimmages with the best players choosing to protect themselves. That game sucked. Oregon St. against Notre Dame was awful, too, as the Beavers lost their coach and their starting QB. What's the point?

There's a dusting on the roof tops and a bit on the grass, but nothing on the roads.

No prediction from me. I don't bet and don't have a crystal ball, but I sure do hope you're wrong about the Sugar Bowl! The Huskies beat Texas pretty convincingly in the Alamo Bowl last year, and the teams both bring back most of their personnel. I dislike Alabama and Michigan both. Can they both lose? That would be ideal.

I've had a little trouble with 9mm reloads from range brass that wouldn't chamber in my Springfield 1911, which caused me to buy a Hornady gage. It turned out that some of my reloads were not concentric, as Boro Bullets mentioned above. The solution for me was to use a Lee Factory Crimp die and run those non-concentric rounds through it two or three times, rotating the loaded case a third of a turn each time. But since your reloads are chambering just fine, you really don't have a problem.

Go back to your old posts and start deleting your old photos. This happened to me a year or so ago. Apparently TGO has a max limit on cumulative posts.

The Washington Huskies just picked up Vandy LB Ethan Barr from the transfer portal. It looks like he'll be a role player with the Huskies, or subbed in often. I'm not sure that I like the transfer portal, it's eventually going to give us a handful of very good teams among a multitude of not-so-good. But then maybe we're already there? While I think that college players should share in all the wealth that football and basketball generates, it's something of a shock to see good players weighing whether they can make more money staying in college or going pro.

I suppose this was inevitable: US sporting and outdoor products group Vista Outdoor warned in a letter to customers that ammunition prices are set to surge due to “an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder.” Vista Outdoor confirmed the authenticity of the letter to Newsweek days ago. The increase of ammo and gunpowder prices is expected on Jan. 1. “Due to world events our suppliers have notified us of unprecedented demand for and an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder, and thus has increased our prices substantially,” Vice President of Sales, Sporting Products Brett Nelson said in the letter. Nelson continued, “We must, therefore, raise our pricing to help offset those increases.” Ammo and powder prices at Remington, Alliant Powder, CCI, Federal, SEVI-Shot, and Speer are set to rise in the coming weeks:

You might want to speak with an attorney who specializes in estates, but since there are multiple heirs you might be wise to document everything with bills of sale, just to be able to show where the guns went and what cash assets they brought. You could, of course, divide the guns between the heirs and leave each heir to decide whether to sell or keep them. Bear in mind that I am not an attorney, so anything I write here is really just my opinion. Do your own due diligence.

I need a pound or two of AA1680. I'll buy it outright, or I can trade some 3031. My 3031 is pretty old, in metal cans, but it's sealed and has been properly stored. I load with it regularly and without problems. Prefer something in the Crossville area, if possible. THANKS!

If you and the person who left the arms for you are Tennessee residents, then there is no special transfer required. Private transfers are legal in TN, with no paperwork involved. An exception would be if there are NFA firearms included in the inheritance; things like suppressors or machine guns, for example. The for-sale forum on this site is a good place to sell, once you've established the value of your arms. Gunbroker is good, too, but you'll need an FFL holder to help you if you need to ship out of state.

I recently bought a Sig Buckmasters (economy) scope for my .243 and I love it. I think I got a great value for the money. But as in all things, YMMV.

TCU beat Michigan in their semi, right?

I'm happy to help you. Go Huskies!
