Beauty! That's a real keeper, for sure.

I have some of dad's guns. They were divided between my brother and I.  My father was all about function, meaning accuracy.  He modified every thing, to suit him, so their value has been greatly diminished.  But I have four boys who will get them someday.

They all want his Remington Rand 45. It was his hardball gun, when he was shooting National Match Course in the 60s.

I'd want the Remington Rand too. Carried one in the Army.

Well, true but if we could just get a new law passed that said 17 year olds can’t shoot anyone on school property, that’d stop it.

I'm sorry, i shouldn't joke around, this isn’t a joking matter as two kids won’t be coming home today.

It isn't funny but what you said is true. Some Nashville politician was on the news a few minutes ago and said she didn't want to politicize these deaths but the GOP needs to do something to stop this. Is that not politicizing it? They also said this is not the first time this student took a gun to school. I don't know what or when but where is zero tolerance?

Right, but how do you convince people that regular folks OCing is normal when you dress like a homicide detective and assume that strangers believe that’s what you are?  What good does that do?

If everyone did it would become normal. Nothing will convince the anti's ever, that's how we got here. So it doesn't do a LOT of good but it does desensitize people to an extent.

How do you convince people that an airplane doesn't explode when a handgun is fired from inside? I don't know how homicide detectives dress. The ones in TV dramas don't always mesh with the guys I see on the news. Hollyweird made us all believe these things, I'd bet a lot of people still believe all cars explode in crashes. It's all perspective. I remember being surprised at people walking around the town square in Scottsville KY with hog legs on their hips. Things have changed since then. The media has had decades to indoctrinate the populace. I do not believe we can make a difference with open carry. JMHO.

I used to know a fellow who open carried scenario 1 style.  He said people assumed he was a police officer, and talked like this was a good thing.  I completely disagreed because A. I don’t want people to think I am a cop or trying to impersonate one and B. Fooling people into thinking you are a cop and not Joe Citizen does not advance 2A rights or win over people.  I thought his mentality was badly flawed.

    point A. I agree
    point B. I agree

His mentality isn't flawed, the flaw is those who believe only LEO can/should be armed. Assuming he isn't trying to look like LEO.

Consider the vids of people cleaning up homeless person for a job interview. We tend to judge based on appearance but once an unstable bum is cleaned up and put in nice suit you have an unstable bum that looks nice in a suit. I notice people who dress like thugs, they most likely aren't but they appear as a thug so what am I supposed to think? SO the question we have to answer is how do we want to present ourselves which is why I have chosen not to OC even though most likely no one in my area would even notice. There's always a Karen waiting somewhere.

  5. Wife works at JFK middle a short distance down the road. They are on lockdown. Hobson pike closed at the Wilson CO line. Three shot, two dead. one other student injured not by gunfire. I was already stressed and tired when I got the wife's text. Media coverage is too much. get out of the way, let parents pick up their children in relative peace. We will not find anything out today. Very saddened and upset by this though not a surprised in the least. Also going to say that having that many LEO standing around after the threat is eliminated is unneeded in my opinion. Only hindering getting those kids out and CSI getting their job done.

I worry for my wife's safety and this did not give me any warm fuzzy feelings. I have resisted the urge to reply to someone calling for state Republicans to enact gun control. I mean, 17 year old in possession of a handgun on school property, not like that's against any current laws is it?

I hope no one takes this wrong and I am not trying to be argumentative. But, other than OC being your right and for some wanting to promote fear in the ‘Karens’ I really want to understand and am interested in your reasons for a preference to OC.

Well it is a forum for discussion. No one has gotten ugly yet. There have been a few reasons brought out here on both sides. I wouldn't consider myself as preferring open carry as I would rather be gray. But I think the best reason was something Col. Jeff Cooper said, "an armed society is a polite society". Though our current society might change his view it makes sense that OC would be a deterrent in most cases. It is more comfortable, and it is obviously quicker out of the holster. I know, there are two sides to everything but there's my two cents on the pros.

OMG someone has a gun! Lets call people that open carry about someone open carrying. That would be funny if it was not so true.

Not surprising from people who would complain to Starbucks that their security guards were armed. You know, the guys hired to protect the people complaining. The irony being all law enforcement except for County Sheriffs are hired security.

Apology not accepted. . . . we need more pics on this thread!  😄

Can't find the other one I resized of them wrestling. I have zero pics of the pair facing me, can't snap it quick enough. He's about 18 months now and she's 4 years. Matilda outweighs Snoopy by 30 pounds and he can easily knock her on her butt. I'm so happy they have bonded so well, they are both velcro dogs and it can be a challenge to stand up when they greet us returning from work. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just keep in mind that even an 18" shotgun can be unwieldy inside a house.  The shot pattern will only be a couple inches at 30 ft.

870s and Mossberg 500 or 590s are the old standby, and a fantastic option. In particular I like the Magpul SGA stock options.

The new semi-auto hotness is the Beretta 1300 or A300, but they are 2-3 times more expensive.

    Some caveats to add:

    1) Shotguns are a thinking man’s gun if you want to run it well. Especially a dual use gun like you want. Get training on it and practice ammo management.

    2) Put thought into your defensive round. I prefer Federal Flite Control, if you can find it.  Contrary to conventional wisdom, you don’t want a wide spread. Pattern your gun at various distances and record your results.

Agreed. My 500 is mission specific. I've read the staggard loading logic and agree with the principles. So, my house is open with only 3 doorways less than 8 feet wide so no issues with choke points inhibiting the swing. I have it for only inside the house and only loaded with buckshot. If I have to go outside I'll pick up the AR. I have a pistol on the nightstand with the job of getting me to the closet. Both the nightstand pistol and the Mossberg are equipped with lights. I wouldn't want the pistol grip version because of the lowered mag capacity and controllability. I still think the Maverick combo is a good dual purpose choice with proper loads and expectations. And of course, practice.

I would like to have an autoloader just because and an old Wingmaster is on my list.

Stubborn typically means smart and bored. I'd say she needs a job.

I tend to agree. Hard to tell with that puppy face but looks like lab/terrier mix and she will be looking for something to do. Our Danes are stubborn and have no job. They did enjoy the snow today. Sorry I didn't get pics.

This is what you seek.  I have many shotguns, most much more expensive than a Maverick, but the Mavericks are great guns. I like them because I can beat on them and not worry about it and they get the job done. The combo would meet your needs well and is very affordable at just over $300.

I tend to agree with this. I've had a 500 Cruiser in the bedroom closet for about 25 years. I don't hunt so I don't need the extra barrel but if I were buying today this would be considered. The extended tube on mine is great though. 8+1 00buck is good medicine.

  12. Couple inches on the ground here outside Shelbyville. It has changed over to large flakes so we may be coming out of it. Looks pretty and the two Danes don't mind so I'm good.. If the power goes out I have blankets and two big heat sources. LOL
