Sorry about the pear tree. We have almost 2 inches here. Road was black ice this morning and probably will be again in the morning. Very few cars passed today. And I have to go to the office in Antioch in the morning. Just the thought has my butt puckered.

I've learned not to ask how stupid can people get, they take it as a challenge.

If I need a bayonet on my home defense gun I have made serious tactical errors. I do admire a good trench gun though.

I had to look that one up. I thought you had to use a six inch or longer barrel for hunting. Learned something new. If you compare ballistics between 30-30 and 357 magnum you might be surprised. I'd be comfortable with either within 50 yards with open sights. I'm a fan of 357 mag, so much so I want a Coonan.

I think I am seeing a slight change in what is being produced. A few companies have released or shown all metal versions of poly framed autos. I believe that people who have purchased what old timers consider carry a lot shoot a little pistols find their footing as shooters they will branch out. S&W, Ruger, and Taurus have released new wheel guns over the last 6 months including the single action Deputy from Taurus. I believe they have well educated marketing individuals who are trying to predict (or create) a trend towards revolvers. I only own one modern revolver at this point but there are several on my list of "wanted". Most of what I yearn for are higher end pieces so they don't get the priority of the auto loaders but the want is still there. Single shot break action shotguns haven't died so I don't see revolvers going away ever. rather than edit adding here; some of the "new" revolvers out or coming are the same designs with some little twist.

call me cheap. I like this idea. I use a good backpack now with the plastic boxes most of my pistols came in. Amazon.com : TIDEWE Tactical Range Backpack Bag for Gun and Ammo with Pistol Case (Black) : Sports & Outdoors -
I can respect this. I think if you knew you were going to a gunfight you'd take a rifle anyway. Handguns are defensive. we could have a long conversation on the Biblical side of arming oneself.

I need a new zipper for my Air Force parka..............

I have a commercial version in blue that my dad bought in the early 70's when we still lived in Toledo. Needs the fur replaced from overheating in the dryer. My Mother was an excellent seamstress and wouldn't attempt it. I have the equipment to do it but not the skills. Find a saddle maker/leather worker with experience. And let us know if you find someone, I might find a piece of fur and get mine fixed. Yes, warmest coat I've ever seen. I don't care if It looks ancient, it's freakin' warm. -
I wonder if the same trainers that tell us to be alert, that criminals do not want hard targets, are the ones who preach against OC because you would be targeted? The only time I have ever heard of criminals attempting to rob an known armed person(s) was Bullseye Gun in Murfreesboro. Staff is usually concealed but they are known to be armed.

I have to add: all of the dems blaming the GOP for not negotiating should be publicly censured for using such tragic deaths for their own political ladder. Generalizing, it was liberal oversight that allowed a troubled teen to be in a public school unsupervised where he killed two young people. The edit: (Antioch) legislator that has been on channel 2 several times has yet to present a solution and has only tried to place blame. More laws will not deter the lawless actions of others.

I haven't heard anything of this young man's family except he has a sister who goes to JFK where my wife works. The fact that he was a student where she works is what gives me so much concern. I do know that he is mixed and wife believes he is part Indian. Obviously he was known to authorities to be a threat and why they were not monitoring him I cannot imagine. Am I surprised? Not in the least.

I have read this several times over the last couple hours while working. I've tried to convince myself not to comment. But Being quiet for decades got us here. So if I offend anyone it is not my intention, only sharing what I believe. Firstly, when it is said "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world" most see mothers rocking the cradle. I see the liberals in government who have pushed for federal benefits and oversight of our education system from day care to graduate degree. Our education system is overseen by local, state, and federal boards made up primarily of people who went through the highly liberal higher education system. they have naturally pushed the liberal mindset further and further down the ladder until what parents believe is no longer relevant. If you have liberal beliefs that is your choice, I do not fault you for that. So please don't dump on me for believing my children shouldn't have your beliefs push down their throats. Our state legislators while trying to do something productive in preventing this tragedy lost their backbone. This is a state law and they should have set standards, passed the law, and let the school employees decide what to do with it. It should have been obvious that no school system overseen by those taught by a liberal minded system would ever allow faculty to carry those inexcusable tools on campus. Local systems should have had no choice. Which tends to go the opposite of what I think about local control of schools but I believe school boards should be elected and accountable. Single heads of school systems should be as aware of the people that hired them by proxy as head coaches. I wouldn't push anyone of our school faculty to be an armed defender of our students but I would pray that many took their responsibility that seriously.

My dear wife has never complained about motorcycle, parts, or work in the house. But when things got better and we could afford a bigger house, one of HER requirements was a garage. When I had my old sportster in the living room polishing the water spots off, the conversation with my first wife went a little different.

Not only the on site detection system failed. Somehow a very confused young man with murderous intent slipped through the human system undetected. Or ignored. I have to wonder who failed to follow through on prior knowledge?

I'd want the Remington Rand too. Carried one in the Army.

It isn't funny but what you said is true. Some Nashville politician was on the news a few minutes ago and said she didn't want to politicize these deaths but the GOP needs to do something to stop this. Is that not politicizing it? They also said this is not the first time this student took a gun to school. I don't know what or when but where is zero tolerance?

If everyone did it would become normal. Nothing will convince the anti's ever, that's how we got here. So it doesn't do a LOT of good but it does desensitize people to an extent. How do you convince people that an airplane doesn't explode when a handgun is fired from inside? I don't know how homicide detectives dress. The ones in TV dramas don't always mesh with the guys I see on the news. Hollyweird made us all believe these things, I'd bet a lot of people still believe all cars explode in crashes. It's all perspective. I remember being surprised at people walking around the town square in Scottsville KY with hog legs on their hips. Things have changed since then. The media has had decades to indoctrinate the populace. I do not believe we can make a difference with open carry. JMHO.

point A. I agree point B. I agree His mentality isn't flawed, the flaw is those who believe only LEO can/should be armed. Assuming he isn't trying to look like LEO. Consider the vids of people cleaning up homeless person for a job interview. We tend to judge based on appearance but once an unstable bum is cleaned up and put in nice suit you have an unstable bum that looks nice in a suit. I notice people who dress like thugs, they most likely aren't but they appear as a thug so what am I supposed to think? SO the question we have to answer is how do we want to present ourselves which is why I have chosen not to OC even though most likely no one in my area would even notice. There's always a Karen waiting somewhere.

Wife works at JFK middle a short distance down the road. They are on lockdown. Hobson pike closed at the Wilson CO line. Three shot, two dead. one other student injured not by gunfire. I was already stressed and tired when I got the wife's text. Media coverage is too much. get out of the way, let parents pick up their children in relative peace. We will not find anything out today. Very saddened and upset by this though not a surprised in the least. Also going to say that having that many LEO standing around after the threat is eliminated is unneeded in my opinion. Only hindering getting those kids out and CSI getting their job done. I worry for my wife's safety and this did not give me any warm fuzzy feelings. I have resisted the urge to reply to someone calling for state Republicans to enact gun control. I mean, 17 year old in possession of a handgun on school property, not like that's against any current laws is it?

Well it is a forum for discussion. No one has gotten ugly yet. There have been a few reasons brought out here on both sides. I wouldn't consider myself as preferring open carry as I would rather be gray. But I think the best reason was something Col. Jeff Cooper said, "an armed society is a polite society". Though our current society might change his view it makes sense that OC would be a deterrent in most cases. It is more comfortable, and it is obviously quicker out of the holster. I know, there are two sides to everything but there's my two cents on the pros.
