All true, but the term in question is "assault weapon", which is the one I was referring to.  Pretty much no one ever refers to AR's and other such rifles as "assault rifles", as that is easily refuted by your argument.  "Assault weapon" is the generic term both sides use, or at least have used, when referring to Ar15's, either in endless efforts to either ban them, or as noted, at one time to promote sales ...

I do not remember where the term came from. I do know the military never referred to M16 as assault rifle. Wherever it came from it was a misnomer when applied to AR15. just as AK47 is incorrect for what we can walk in and purchase. We have access to the AKM which is modified. I believe the whole idea of the anti gunners is to be vague as Chipman demonstrated so that agencies can interpret it any way they want effectively removing the legislative branch.

I can see why he struggled to answer this question, as the term "assault weapon" is both ambiguous and largely meaningless.  Gun control advocates have used the term to stigmatize "scary looking guns" for a long time, dating as far back as Californian efforts to ban semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines in the 80's.  In all fairness, many gun manufacturers have, at various times used the same term as an advertising ploy to try and stimulate sales of early AR15's and similar variants, which at the time were very not familiar to the shooting public.  Today of course, these rifles are among the most popular and widely purchased in America, and the stigma associated with the term has relegated its use to advocates of bans and other forms of gun control.  Chipman doesn't want to seem overly supportive of the most radical ideas on gun reform, so his obtuseness is understandable, as well as his inability to define "assault weapon".  My guess is his nomination will come down to how Manchin and perhaps a couple of other senators vote, much like most other issues today.  They could save a lot of time, and useless sound bites for both sides, if they would just gather up the half dozen senators who are actually deciding all the current issues and have them meet and make the decision ...

Assault rifles are select fire. Select fire is different from automatic rifle in that it can be fired in semi auto. Automatic rifle is a machine gun. We mere civilians are not allowed to have auto or select fire arms without a government issued permit. GCA 1968 needs to be repealed.

    With the Armalite Rifle 15 being designated AR15 people just assumed it was a civilian model of the M16 main battle rifle. just because it looks like a duck. problem is, it doesn't quack like a duck :}

It's a Sccy Cpx2. Actually a nice little gun. I bought a Pro Mag 15 round mag and a butt extension for it. Feeds and shoots good. Hollow points too. Some hotter handloads are a little rough in it though.

Same engineers that designed the Kel Tec started SCCY. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. It's on my list.

Well, nice guns everybody. I've got a 15 shot 9mm that runs good and shoots good but, am embarrassed to say what it is.

I have an affinity for Firestar and I wouldn't be embarrassed of whatever I am comfortable with that works. At one point my tackle box gun was a Jennings .22. That one was only dependable with stingers.

I also own a Keltec P32.  Before I bought it I did some research and read that it works reliably (no rim lock) if you use FMJ. I've fired a couple of hundred rounds of Fioccho 73gr FMJ though mine with nary an issue. If you want a mouse gun, the Keltec is the smallest, lightest, reliable option out there.  I also have a Ruger LCP II which is just a fraction larger than the P32 in length and width, but is quite a bit wider.  The big difference is in the weight.  The LCP II is 10.6 ounces (unloaded ) and the P32 is 6.6 ounces.  When not using a 9mm (OWB), I find myself pocket carrying the P32 a bit more than the LCP II.

I have run two different hollow points through mine as well. It is rock solid.

I also have to add, I only own ONE striker fired pistol, being the Browning Baby. I believe in hammers.

My Small Gun Rotation is a Ruger LC9S Pro, a XDs .45acp, a S&W 442, a Walther Stainless PPK and a Ruger LCP for when I need a really small pistol.  It used to be a Keltec P32, that I "lent" to my daughter... I'll never see that one again.  Currently, I'm carrying the XDs .45ACP.  My wife is carrying the LC9S.

one of my kids asked to borrow mine. I knew better

  7. had friends in from Pennsylvania a few years back. I dropped part at the golf course while the rest of us went shopping, When I picked them up they were complaining about the clover on the fairways. I explained that we are in Tennessee, we have red clay, if it weren't for the clover the course would be brown or barren. 😆

So why won't mine cover the brown spaces where my dogs pee?

  8. since you brought it up. Kel Tec .32 ACP has been with me for over 20 years. I also have a Browning Baby if I need something REALLY small. Both are reliable with the Browning being 100% And the Kel Tec failing once.

I did slip my 8 round 4 inch .357 in the pocket of my shorts Sunday not intending to get out of the car. Wound up having to traipse through walmart. we had no issues. carry and concealed comfort are relative to clothing and determination.

My load is 5 grains of Bullseye and 230 grain ball. 7000/5=1400. Pretty cool if you’re accustomed to loading high power rifle rounds.

You won’t need to trim or chamfer brass, but you will need to slightly bell the case mouth. With a carbide sizing die, you also won’t need to lube cases. You’ll want to crimp slightly. More accurately, remove the bell.

great info Greg. I use LEE carbide dies. Have not needed case lube yet.

yup, big difference in powder from 30-30

    I load 4.5gr pushing a 230gr bullet. 7,000gr per pound. So 7,000/4.5 =1,555.5 reloads per pound.

    THANKS much!!!

I had done the math but was afraid my grain to pound source was flawed. you just confirmed what I found. Good to know all that math I took works for something.

  11. I'm a novice having only replicated my favorite 30-30 rounds. I have a silly question as I am about to start rolling .45 ACP. How many rounds would one get per pound of powder using 4-5 grains per round? approximately and provided we don't spill. you know, just a rough estimate so I know what to expect.

  12. oh hell, I commented on reds offer before I got to the goats. I have tears from laughing (well the pollen is helping there)  seriously, we have an everything else, goats are great currency. well they USED to be, now they are like the covid dogs and being given away (or maybe they are just used up)

Midway has some Federal 38 Spec. 158 Lead round nose. $55 a box. Nope sorry I can not bring myself to pay those prices.  I will just conserve what little I have.

I think $ 30 was the highest I paid during Obama panic. And I didn’t buy much.

I got hit with some high prices due to buying different calibers than what I normally keep. Did so to ensure I would have some choices. (if the store is out of .45 I can buy 9mm). bought my first ever 9mm while looking for a .40 S&W chambered pistol. BECAUSE at the time .40 S&W and .44 mag are the only things on the shelf. It has caught me off guard in that respect, thought there would always be at least a limited supply of everything. Should have known better, last time I couldn't get any .32 ACP.
