The max I shoot is about 15 feet and it was perfect right out of the box. Its adjustable on elevation and windage.

If you decide to get crimson trace with the M&P and thumb safety you'll have to do some modifications. just in case

On an M&P, the activation button is on the back and I as soon as I tighten my grip the laser is on. I can use my finger to cover the laser if needed when its on. The 9c was given to my wife to carry and I carried the 40c with night sights till I found a good deal on the crimson trace. I'm actually looking at one for my Sig but they were made with either a side or front activation button so I don't know which one I perfer yet.
