Sounds like fun. When and where's the next one? John

I have been reloading for about 3 years. I started reloading when Obama was running for President. Fear of not being able to buy affordable ammo forced me into reloading. I started just wanting to reload ammo for .223 (supposedly a hard round to reload). I would shoot occasionally (4 or 5 times a year). Now... I love reloading. I reload for .223, 5.7x28mm, .45, .308, .270, and 30-06. In the past, I have reloaded for 7MM Rem Mag and .44 Mag (guns I've sold). I go shooting at least 26 times a year and have a yearly pass at the public gun range near my house. In my case, I'm not saving money reloading. I go shooting a lot more. I just recently acquired a .45. So I've just recently starting reload for it. I've put together about 2000 round of .45. It's really easy compared to rifle rounds. That is a great round to start with. Just be REALLY REALLY CAREFUL not to double charge (put two times the powder in the case) a round. Reloading, to me, is a way to relax. You go in your reloading room (garage, bonus room, closet, etc), away from the grind of everyday life, and make something. When your done making it, you've got something that can be very accurate at great distances, or devastating up close, a plinking load, or whatever... Then you go test it at the range and see if it meets your standard. If not, you make adjustments. I like making stuff that you can't find in stores. I have everything from frangible .223 to armor piercing. The FN 5.7x28mm ammo is hard to find. I reload what I want. You can't buy subsonic 5.7x28mm ammo. I reload my own. Thats the nice thing about reloading, you can customize the load to what you want. If you just getting into reloading I recommend this... Reloaders Reference v9.3x74r. Just do a google search for it. It has hundreds of loads for the .45. John

Errors in "The Walking Dead" television show. What did you notice?

Well put... I completely agree. I watch a lot of movies and television shows to get ideas. Sure Hollyweird is messed up, but you can learn from bad examples just as much as good ones. John -

I think the show is great. I am not bad mouthing the show. I'm actually impressed with it. It looks like they have spared no expense. I'm just comparing what real people would do in a situation versus Hollyweird people in situations. Hollyweird, and the tv crowd, are so out of touch with the average person it amazes me. Do people really live like the Kardashians or like Jersey Shore? Lets put the, "its not real" part to rest... I, and I'm assume most others, do not believe there will ever be zombies. Zombies are a representation of an overrunning force. Lets use liberals like an example, they follow a ideology blindly and without thinking (like stupid walking zombies). Trying to convert others into their ideology (zombies biting people and turning them into zombies). Once bitten, you become a zombie (stupid walking zombies walking around trying to bite people). No matter how much factual information you show a liberal, they still will not convert back to reality (trying to cure a zombie). They walk away in a huff and say YOU'RE STUPID (cure fails). They stay in that stupid liberal mindset until they die (shotgun to the forehead). The show is just an exageration of this. John -
ok... whats a TGO zombie shoot? John

Yeah... I would like to see a episode where they run into a group of people that actually aren't stupid. Show them what they can accomplish if they start scrounging before its almost to late. Why be on your last mag of ammo, when in the last episode you walked by a military ammo dump. They can run into someone like me, living at Hugh Hefners summer house (just outside Atlanta), with my harem and weapon stockpile... John

The ZA would be the time to have anything you wanted. A Corvette would be completely useless during the ZA, but you can bet I'd have one in every color parked out front of my basecamp. I'll justify it by saying they're for "quick getaways." A Barrett .50 is the ultimate gun to me. At $5.00 a bullet, I can't afford to shoot one, let alone own one. But I'd have a whole gun rack full of them (in all the colors of the rainbow) too. Flame thrower, AT-4 missle launcher, 203 gernade launcher, MK 19 gernade launching machine gun (yeah, they exist.. Mk 19 grenade launcher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) oh yeah... got one... My basecamp would be somewhere like the Governors Mansion. I wanna take a dump in a gold toilet. Yeah, I realize I'll have to carry water to it in order to flush it, but its not like I'll have a job to get to. Right now I have a pretty wife, in the ZA, I'll have a pretty wife AND a harem of pretty appreciative pack mules too (gotta do my part to repopulate the planet). Wonder if Hugh Hefners toilets are gold? John -

I'm sure we all realize it is fiction, but why do the characters have to be complete morons. One thing we all have agreed on here is that we'd all be scavenging as we go. In the show, one lady feels bad for taking a cheap necklace from the department store to give to her sister. They just gave half their guns and ammo to the Mexicans in the Atlanta rest home and don't bend over to pick up a M16. The characters in the show don't even stop to top off a mag. I'd HAVE TO take the 5 ton army truck at the Center for Disease Control because I'd be walking off with everything that's not nailed down. Oh... take those nail clippers, throw them in my 5 ton truck. They might come in handy someday... By episode 2, I'd need a trailer. John -

Hoorah!!!....I'm ex-military (Army) also. Even if you have no plans on taking the tank. I'd still try to start it up. A M1 Abrams has a jet engine it it. You can roast hotdogs behind an M1. Just start a tank and walk away. The zombies will walk to the noise and get roasted. In one show they are looking for stuff in a department store in town. Why don't anybody think to go to Walmart, Dicks Sporting, or a gun shop? Pick up a freaking phone book and look up sporting goods. They may be all gone, maybe not. Why don't they get better vehicles? The motorhome has a bad radiator hose. Sounds like a good reason to get a new motorhome. Septic tank full on the motorhome. Sounds like a good reason to get a new motorhome. Blue is not your color... Sounds like a good reason to get a new motorhome. Grab that phone book again and look under "motorhome sales and service..." John -
I Loved the show "The Walking Dead" and can't wait until they start the 2nd season, but I did notice a lot of things that I thought were stupid. I'm sure everyone noticed something. What are some of the things you noticed that would not happen in real life? I noticed when the lead character (the cop) left the hospital, there was plenty of military hardware laying around and nobody was watching it. I realize that he didn't know what was going on, but, come on... Even if I just came out of a coma, I'd at least fill my pockets with free brass. In the last episode, they arrive at the health place and there are dead soldiers, military hardware, and vehicles. They walk past it all and go knock on the door. I have to call bull**** on that. I'm gonna upgrade something. My civilian semi-automatic AR15 just became a burst fire M16, Barrett .50 cal or both. I'll worry about how I'm gonna carry it all later. They didn't even top off their mags. COME ON!!! John
-
Yeah... I agree with you. There would be plenty of stuff laying around when the time comes. I loved the show "The Walking Dead" but I was screaming at my television when they walked pass all the military stuff. They walk by a Hummer with a mounted .50 cal and got back in a POS farm truck!!! WTF!!! John

If you're medicine dependent for life, find out where its made or where a distribution hub is. Somewhere where there would be a large, fresh stockpile. During the ZA I'd try to set up there. Also, many medications are derived from old home remedies. Maybe the medicine is derived from, or a concentrate of, something simply acquired. Yeah, sooner or later it will be used up or expired, but maybe you'd last long enough til sanity is restored. If not, I'd rather die fighting. John

I agree with the same ammo for different guns idea. I have 4 AR's in various configurations. Two are dedicated to day use (no night vision capabilities), one dedicated to night use (no day capabilities), and the short barrel that can do either (has both capabilities). I'd like a MAK-90 so that if I run out of .223 (doubtful, but possible) I still have a weapon to defend myself. The two dominant platforms in the country (in my opinion) are the .223 and the 7.62x39. I expect there to be plenty of half empty mags on scattered on the ground when the SHTF in those two calibers. Its dark out around 8 hours a day. I imagine during the zombie apocalypse the power will be out. People limit themselves to being combat capable to only 2/3 of a day. People will buy 20 guns. Have every tacticool attachment imaginable on said guns. Have 5000+ rounds for each gun. But no night vision. In my opinion, night vision is very important. I realize that nvg's are freaking expensive. But 8 hours is a very, very, very long time to be blind. If your the guy planning on taping a flashlight to the barrel of your gun, don't expect to have a long life expectancy. Batteries can be recharged with a solar charger (I admit I have yet to acquire one). John

Yeah that sounds good but what if they run at the first sign of a zombie. You've lost all of your ammo, food, water, etc. You would HAVE TO hobble them. Leg shackles or something similar would be necessary. They'd be able to walk, but not run away. Plus as an added bonus. If your about to get over run by zombies, just grab your stuff off the liberal and run away. You don't have to outrun the zombie hoard. You just have to outrun the hobbled liberal. Oh yeah... just a thought, some liberals might be pretty women. I claim these two pack mules... John
-
Nice weapon... I'd like to get a AK variant. I'd like a Norinco MAK-90 but have run out of cash at the moment. I like the idea of .30 caliber rounds instead of .223. I think both will be scattered all over the ground when the time comes though. If you can swing it (boatload of cash), I think suppressors are worth it. You don't give away your position as easy. John

A buddy of mine has some 1600 acres in West "by God" Virginia. He goes there for deer season each year. Its way off in the woods away from all civilization. It has two huge steep mountains with a small dirt service road between them. There is a good size river that runs through the center of it. Next to the river is a bunkhouse that would sleep 30 comfortably. On top of the hills he has planted apple trees to attract deer. I expect to join up with him and head there. We'll pick you, and yours, up on the way, rebeldrummer... John
-
Its not heavy. I never really thought of weighing it. A full mag of .223 adds weight but I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. John
-
Yeah... I'm ready. John

I like the idea of using an anti-gunner (or liberal) to lure in the zombies. That works out great. We'll probably have all the bait we want because the same people wanting to take our guns away will be the ones banging on our doors to protect them (with our guns) when the zombies come. John

It seems to me, feel free to disagree, that people do not take responsibility for themselves or their lot in life. I’m not a millionaire and never will be. But I live comfortably because I’m willing to work and by the grace of God, I’ve been able to find gainful employment. I’m not talking about the people currently between jobs or those that have been let go due to the economy. I’m referring to those that can work but refuse to. The ones that stay on the Government take because thay have no respect for themselves or others. I realize this sounds bad, but a Zombie Apocalypse could actually be a good thing for this country. Advantage #1: Many, if not all, of those that do not take responsibility for themselves and have no work ethic will die off. You can’t change your way of life in an instant. If you too lazy and stupid to get a job (depend on the Government for your existence), you’re probably too lazy or stupid to defend yourself and probably haven’t made any preparations. Instead depending on the Government for your existence. Good bye and good reddens. Advantage #2: The debate over Gun control would end instantly. Guns are “the great equalizer.†An 89 pound grandmother can kill a 260 pound zombie with the pull of a trigger. I am in acceptable shape for my age, but time waits for no man. Someday, in the not too distant future, I hope to be old and feeble. I like to know that I’ll still be able to protect myself and my feeble wife if necessary. Advantage #3: Those left would have a great work ethic and a respect for each other because everyone would know what they collectively have gone through. Even the few liberals that survive would probably have changed their tune. Advantage #4: Everybody left could go move into the really nice houses that the dead liberals left behind. Advantage #5: This nagging frustration I have about the society that I live in would probably have been relieved by all the zombie slaying I get to do. John

Its nice to hear that some people are like me. Everyone always says that a Zombie Apocalypse would be a bad thing. It could be a fun,... It would also clear up alot of problems, like all the anti gun people. John

First, I need to say that Tannerite is LEGAL!!! Its used for long range shooting. I use small quantities of tannerite (in the quarter gumball machine eggs) as 200 to 400 yard targets. They make a little pop (instant gratification) when you shoot them. To set off a Tannerite explosion you shoot it with a bullet going over 1800 fps. I know how to make Tannerite for about $1 per pound. The more Tannerite, the bigger the pop... Three pounds of Tannerite (a peanut butter jar full) will vaporize a tree stump. Fifty pounds would destroy a car. Fifty pounds of Tannerite is a big target. I should be able to hit it at a great distance 800 meters or so (there will probably be plenty of even better rifles laying around during the Zombie Apocalypse). I would find a safe defendable position. Bait them to a location within range and blow them up. Maybe blow something up to topple down on them or vaporize a large quantity of gasoline with an ignition source. The advantage is, although your attracting them with the noise, your not attracting them to your position. You attracting them around you, but not to you. This would give me time to run and gun to a fall back position if necessary. I'd ultimately have to get more supplies to make more Tannerite, but this way, I'm weeding out more than one with each round fired. John

Survive Johnson City, TN - City-wide game of zombie tag
mikadosoft replied to a topic in General Chat
It sounds like it could be fun. But, its to far to travel for me. It won't be a accurate representation of the Zombie Apocalypse, if you're not allowed to shoot the zombies. I hope it takes off though, and makes Johnson City boatloads of cash. If so, other citys will join in and try to cash in. Maybe one would be closer to Nashville. John -
Ok... I have my son modeling my personal load out. This is what I'd be wearing if I'm walking. Like Mr.AK, I'd bring considerably more stuff if we're driving. Most importantly, my reloading stuff!!! I plan to have 3 weapons when I leave the house. First, a 24" barreled AR15. I don't want the zombies getting to close. This will hit them at 600 yards(ish) Second, a 7" barreled AR15. for clearing houses and seeking supplies in closed in areas. Both AR's have a AAC Blackout Flash Hider on them in anticipation of the M4-2000 Silencer that I'm waiting on. Its already paid for and I'm just waiting on the tax stamp from the ATF. I just hope I get it before the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!! Third, A Springfield Armory TRP .45. It hits hard and I have the most magazines for it currently. It’s not ideal but if I get down to using the TRP, I'm pretty screwed anyway. Two M9 bayonettes. They're for peeling apples and such. Can see using them on a zombie. You'd get blood on you... The people that will come with me will have similar weaponry so that throwing a mag to a buddy won't be a problem. I'd like a AK47 but haven't found one yet that I like. I plan to move at night, so night vision is a must. AN/PVS-5 NVG's. I can't afford PVS14. It’s the best I can do on my budget. On the 7" SBR AR15 (yes, I have a tax stamp), I have a PAQ-4 infared laser on the rail for designating and eliminating targets at night in conjunction with the PVS-5's. On the 24" AR15, I have a Pulsar N550 Day/Night scope. Damn fine scope for the money. Ammo: I reload my own ammo, so I have enough for me and a few friends. Each AR15 has a Beta mag. When that runs out, I have 10 more 30 round pmags on the front of the vest. All will be tipped with 65 grain Sierra Gamekings. I have eight .45 mags for the Springfield TRP. Total of 64 bullets for a last ditch gun. Food: I have some MRE's. I have enough (more than the two pictured) to last me until I can get to a Kroger and clear it. Batteries… I’ve got enough. John

Anybody know a reputable transmission shop in Nashville?
mikadosoft replied to mikadosoft's topic in General Chat
Thank you everyone for your responses. Its a good car but I value it at only $2000. I'll try Mr. Transmission in Madison. John
