Late to the party, but I'll get in line if Karnage doesn't take them.
-
That used to be the case, but they do now. I talked to their customer service at one point and they indicated it was an artifact of the no sales tax for out-of-state sales era - not shipping to Tennessee and Georgia meant they didn't have to deal with sales tax at all.
-
Get on the Natchez mailing list. They've been doing "Flash" sales every week or two where you can get a case of 9mm for $300 - $335 plus tax with free shipping. I've gotten a couple cases of Aluminum Blazer for about $340 total. They ship Fedex Ground and it usually gets here (Middle TN) in a day.

I love shooting my Hellcat, but there is something about the small size that forces my thumbs up onto the left side of the slide, and always manages to keep the it from locking back on an empty mag. Single hand shooting is comfortable, but I just can't get both paws on it and out of the way of the slide, and I'm too lazy to change my grip for one gun. The 365XL is another really comfortable gun, but I have a similar problem getting a good two handed grip on it. I have Hogue grip sleeves on both of those to get more girth to grip, but it's just not enough.

Ditto. Except for a brief excursion carrying a Sig P365XL I have exclusively carried and shot M&Ps for many many trouble-free years including plenty of the high round-count classes. Those M&Ps are stock save for the sights, I haven't had any need to "improve" them.

This is not good. . not good at all.

Perhaps not. NSSF subsequently pointed out that it was the insurance companies that settled, not Remington Outdoor Company - it had been split up and auctioned off from the bankruptcy and no longer existed to settle. https://bearingarms.com/camedwards/2022/02/15/national-shooting-sports-foundation-responds-to-remington-settlement-n55511 -
For future reference, with both Fedex and UPS you can sign up on their websites and ask them to hold a given package at their warehouses where you can go pick it up.

Adding another data point to the subject of bad quality control, I stopped by Sportsman's Warehouse today and asked to see one of these new Compact 2.0 optics-ready models. Take-up in the trigger was rough, like there was sand in it. That's easily fixed, but should not be there on a brand new gun!

Regarding high speed internet, many counties in TN have been using grants to built out fiber networks. I believe Smith County has gigabit fiber available to every address, and Dekalb is marching forward on that too (Dekalb Service Map). It took me a bit of work to track down the various providers, but a call to the county's public utility commission can get you pointed in the right direction.

I moved from VA to TN in 2020 and went through the same sticker shock. I made several trips myself with a uhaul trailer and used upack.com for the rest of it. They bring a 28' semi trailer (ABF branded - you've seen them on the highway, usually double-lugged) and drop it off at your place. You get a couple days on each end for the load/unload. You load it (I hired help from uhaul.com, it was less than $500 as I remember) and pay by the foot. They haul it to the destination, though not necessarily directly. The quote for the entire trailer to Cookville was $2,100, but you only pay for what you use (looks like I saved $31/ft for what I didn't use). They'll put up a wall in front of your stuff and then find some other cargo to fill the rest. I contracted with a moving company out of Crossville who provided two guys for the unload for a couple hundred bucks. It's a little more hassle to coordinate those different pieces, but it saved me a ton of money and the scheduling was a lot more flexible. Maybe this will help anyone else in a similar situation.

Whoops, I read Cookville in a previous reply and made a bad assumption given that it appears you're on the wrong side of Nashville for it. Sorry about that!

Dead Zero is just down the road from you, and you won't need a spotter with their electronic targets. https://deadzeroshooting.com/1000-yard-e-target/

That sucks. I've been looking for that exact model of the new 2.0 Compact to add a RDS to and step up from my regular 2.0 Compact. I've had no issues with any of my M&Ps over the years, so I would hope this is an isolated issue. The length of time for service seems to be a growing problem; just about everything these days costs more, takes forever, and may not even be available.

Welcome! Dead Zero Shooting is just down the road from you in Spencer, they have a 1,000 yard rifle range, plenty of pistol bays, sporting clays, and regular matches. TWRA has ranges around the state: https://www.tn.gov/twra/hunting/firing-ranges.html

We got a solid six inches here in Western Dekalb, and a nice 90 minute power outage early this afternoon as a tree took out a power line. Made for a nice break in the workday!

The Fedex Ground guys are subcontractors and get paid a flat rate per day. There is a lot of turn over, and that's problematic for us because Fedex Ground uses an address database that is years old. Fedex Overnight and Two Day comes right to us, but any Ground package gets re-addressed the first time it's scanned to a road about two miles away where our house number does not exist. There are notes if they scan the package, and the regular drivers know the deal. However, the day I had a case of ammo coming from Natchez they had a new driver. They wrote the address on the box in sharpie and left it on the ground next to a mailbox with a close number on that wrong street. Thankfully it was still there the next day when the regular driver happened to notice it after talking to us - he then made a second trip to our house that day to deliver it. I've also had USPS sent a Priority Mail package to the Virginia destination, via Guam.

Restrict NEW members from sending private messages?

This is a tough issue. I deal with spammers, bots, scammers, and more in my day job and there's no perfect solution. You put countermeasures in place and they find ways around them, so you find more/better/different ways to impede them while trying not to impact the legitimate users. Benefactor status is probably a good indicator - will a scammer be willing to fork out money in hopes of scamming enough before being reported and blocked?Hopefully that status factors into things as this post will increase my count by 10% - some of us just don't talk much! -
Shifting towards looking at the Crossville/Cookville area

The Down Zero shooting range is south of Cookville near Spencer, TN. They have a 1,000 yard rifle range, pistol bays, sporting clays, monthly matches for IDPA, Steel, and more. https://deadzeroshooting.com -
I've carried a Shield with a 7-round flush mag at 3 o'clock in a CompTac MTAC holster with a slight forward cant and found it hides very well there, though I do have to buy shirts a size larger to disguise the added bulk. I also carry a pair of 8-round mags IWB at 9 o'clock and find that balances everything very well. I've never tried it further back on my hip as that would seem to interfere with seat backs, etc, and given that I spend all day in a chair, that might not be very comfortable.

I have about a quart of cleaned and deprimed Hornady .22 Hornet brass and about two quarts of clean but mostly unprocessed .32 S&W Long brass (mostly Lapua, S&B, and G.F.L. headstamps) available. Claim here and PM to arrange transfer. I can mail them or meet FTF in the area bounded by Murfreesboro, McMinnville, Cookville, and Lebanon. Edit: Both have been claimed.

I've carried a Shield for years, first the 1.0, and now the 2.0. After shooting a buddy's P365XL I decided to make the switch. The XL is about 1/2" longer on the slide and near identical in all other dimensions to the Shield with a 7-round flush magazine. The XL has 12+1 in that footprint. I use a Hogue grip on both to better fit my hand. I heard the new Shield was coming, but found an XL at Academy last week and the choice was made.

I've had a Hellcat for a bit over a year, and bought it with the intention to replace my Shield 2.0 for EDC. However it hasn't yet replaced the Shield because the grip is a bit too small and there is a minor issue that I need to adjust my grip to fix. The Shield's grip was also too small, but I found a Hogue sleeve made it just right. Hogue recently released grip sleeves for the Hellcat (and the P365) so I will be giving the Hellcat another evaluation. A buddy has a P365 and I got Hogue sleeves for both of them and did a side-by-side comparison. My trigger finger liked the profile of the 365's smooth and rounded trigger over the Hellcat's bladed safety, but it made no difference in the overall comparison. They are both great guns and neither had any issues over several hundred rounds. The issue I referred to earlier is that my thumbs-forward grip on the Hellcat interferes with the slide and prevents it from locking back on an empty magazine. Ultimately I'll go with the Hellcat because I already have it and all the accessories. Then again, my buddy has a P365XL on the way, so maybe that will change my mind.

U-Haul says TN saw the most one way rentals in 2020
DennisG replied to Erik88's topic in General Chat
HSI is actually pretty available in places. Most of Smith County has fiber available, and DTC has fiber to parts of Dekalb County with a nice map showing where it's coming in the next 24 months or so (https://dtcfiber.net/front_end/zones) I currently have 25/3 aDSL, having given up gig fiber in the move from Virginia, and it's bearable - I can stream 4k shows fine. -
I have one of the above-ground Dakota alert sensors that can transmit 200 yards to the house.. It's aimed about 4' above the driveway and is about 20' back. It catches UPS, Fedex, and most cars all the time, but the dark Amazon vans at night it only catches as they leave, and sometimes light colored cars during the day slip by. I'll be looking at adding one of the magnetic sensors to try and improve that accuracy. It catches me walking by to get the mail, and occasionally things early in the morning (hopefully of the four-legged variety). I also have the Dakota receiver tied into a Z-wave network so I get alerts on my phone (as well as a log of them).
