  1. Commitment of parents... you are so right Daniel. My wife's school is 100% free lunch. You guys do the math. What kind of parental support do you suppose she gets. The point here is that it's not fair to paint teachers with a broad brush. That and if it wasn't for some very dedicated theachers the spelling would be even worse on this forum. All this is doing is divide and conquer. We're all fighting for the scraps while that magic 1% is even richer than last year not paying the 30% of there income I paid. Yes that includes SS witholding, but still.
  2. They ain't that great in TN anyway. Of course the way things are going none of are gonna have anything for retirement. They should probably encourage smoking to kill more of us off at 65.
  3. Because the wealthy have more money to spend on lobbyists.
  4. You assume they don't scavenge those days to make up for bad weather. I know that most of you guys mean no harm, but as a man married to a teacher I can honestly she works as hard as anyone I know and puts up with more crap than I could ever tolerate. It's no pie job. But then my wife cares and is one hell of a good teacher. Like most things the innocent get lumped in with the guilty.
  5. You're right that's probably not fair. I'm just sick and tired of everyone picking on the teachers. They work as many hours as anyone and more than most. It pisses me off when you start messing with my wife.
  6. Nine month,, I wish. For my wife it works out to be about 6 weeks off. Not including the usual in service training during the summer. 9 months is so 1955. So let's see. 7:30-4:30 is a 9 hour day. Then there's at least 4 days a week she spends a minimum of 1 hour and usually 2 grading papers. And she works several hours over the weekend
  7. And tell me, has anyone heard any of our glorious elected leaders talk about cutting their own salaries, pensions, office staff or anything else that they're stealing from us?
  8. This. My wife probably works as many or more hours than anyone here. She ain't gettin rich. Teachers unions were started because the profession is regulated by local elected boards. Without some kind of protection every time there's a new election somebody gets replaced by somebody elses daughter. Are there bad teachers out there? Of course. But there's bad mechanics, doctors, lawyers, whatever. And don't forget. Teachers are told what to teach and pretty much how to teach it. It's called a curriculum. The curriculum is usually picked by the administrators and school board. Their method of choosing publishers appears to be based on whoever buys the most drinks or pehaps offers the best kickback. Can somebody tell me why all of a sudden we seem to hate our public employees? Don't forget, in most cases they forego higher salaries in exchange for health and retirement benefits.
  9. Take a look at this. What's with the ship delay? Anybody seen anything like it from other vendors? http://www.promagindustries.com/
  10. This.
  11. I ordered some springs from them. The arrived ok, but they aren't really super customer oriented.
  12. As I said before, I'd be asking questions. I'm an inquiring mind.
  13. I hear ya, but I have an inquisitive mind. Somebody had best be talking to me. As I said, I'm a bit of an ass.
  14. If I walk up asking questions the SOB better be ID'ing himself. I'm an ass and I'm pretty sure my weapon would be in my hand. We can sort it out if the answers are correct. If he's a threat to me I'm too old to run. So he's got a problem.

    I had no idea.

I disagree. It's the peoples's role to make sure individual rights are not taken from them by their government. Governments role has always been to subjugate and control the population, to control commerce, and to protect itself. Government tends to be like a tumor. It will continue to grow and expand weakening its host. We are the host. Government is the price humans pay for ever increasing population.

    I had no idea.

That is the definition of a rational anarchist.

    I had no idea.

I agree. The meth issue is just a particularly nasty problem.

    I had no idea.

Sorry I wasn't clear. It is required that you provide id and sign a log to buy those particular cold meds. It's not a law that you have to have a prescription. I will say this, I wandered into a meth lab in 07. It wasn't a good thing. As much as everyone is bitching about having to sign for the meds, the only ones that have to worry are those people breaking the law. Now let the paranoia flow...
  23. Raoul

    I had no idea.

Any individual has the right to buy cold meds with pseudoephedrine. You are just required to sign for it. There are reporting standards so that if an individual buys enough cold meds to treat lots of sick people and does it repeatedly, then they are reported to LE. The law can only slow down the problem. That's why there is talk of requiring a scrip. It's a trade off. The laws is indeed helping. I guess the question is just how effective do you want the laws to be??

    I had no idea.

No that has not passed and yes I agree that it is BS.
