Personal Self Defense Encounters?
JunkiCosmonaut replied to Dennis1209's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
There are special interests that have funds set up to pay people to protest and then bail them out. I have heard from very very reliable people that in the past protesters used to protest outside Y12 and would get arrested for getting a little to crazy. These protesters would then get bail posted, and lawyers would show up for them, all privately paid. Also, look into the pallets of bricks laying around New York, and Minneapolis when the riots were going on. Someone paid a whole lot of money to work out the logistics of getting large pallets of bricks out to these locations, and conveniently just before the riots began. It's anecdotal, but it also seemed suspicious to me that when the government had its shut down right around the big metoo marches all of the sudden the protesting stopped and when the government reopened these protests started back in again. I dont want to throw conspiracies around, but Its not all that farfetched that people will pay people to protest for special interests. -
right now reloading is paying for it's self. If you shoot a lot then a multi stage reloader will serve very well. powder and bullets have been pretty easy to come by. Primers come and go in waves right now.

Concealed carry T-shirt
JunkiCosmonaut replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
a lot depends on the gun you're trying to conceal, body type...etc. Shorts and a t-shirt along with my glock 23 in a Veder AIWB fits comfortably all day. I also sacrifice some comfort to be able to draw quicker. I like to time myself and see what my time to first shot is with various configurations and adjust from there. If you're in church and most people know you're carrying anyway why not just do OWB with long tee or if youre dressed up just put a sport coat on over it. if it prints or people get a peek then it might not matter. edit: I should also say that if you're working security then how quickly you can get the gun out in various positions, sitting..etc, should be a large driver in your decision. -
Personal Self Defense Encounters?
JunkiCosmonaut replied to Dennis1209's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Everybody's a gangster until a maniac appears from the dark screaming with a shotgun. it may not be super appropriate for the tone of the thread but I admit this mental image gave me a big chuckle. -

No U. you're gonna get a stoccato and slap a giant red dot on there and you and byrl and john are gonna whisper sweet nothings to each other about how you could never go back to irons. I take that back, you're gonna get a Springfield because Grip Zone. -

Picture of @crake after he finally gets his cyborg eye implants in 2055 because the red dot was not enough. -

red dots are the big gai, you know this, I know this, and if you keep on with this unhealthy obsession with carry optics then we are gonna have to stage an intervention. -

The thing is she can use the sights, she just hates the recoil, which I get. But, I only had the one shotgun and her ability to shoot a handgun under stress is still in development. (But shes getting there and I'm super proud of her!). I'm trying to get her to try some alternatives. So a solution is in the works. I'm looking to get her her own stuff handgun, shotgun, rifle..etc. we didn't really have a debate so much that I just set the record straight with some facts and examples. She agreed it was silly after she really thought about it. -

I completely agree, she has very little experience with firearms in general, and hasn't been around them really until we got together about a year ago, but shes recently had a big bloom in interest. I'm trying to get her to try different guns, I think a 20 gauge might be better, or she can shoot my ar-15 or maybe even a pistol caliber carbine might be a good option. I have a ton of handguns, but shes just not really developed the fundamentals, so shes not confident with a handgun YET and I get that. But we're working on it. -
I taught my girlfriend to shoot my bedside shotgun (mossberg 500 persuader) and she's always hated it for the kick, which I get, shes pretty small so it's understandable. Shes able to hit a silhouette at 15 yards pretty quick and consistently which is my main concern, so I always leave it loaded in the same corner by the bed especially when i'm not home. She took a women's CCP course in seveirville this weekend (july 12) and she came home with new novel advice, "the instructor said that its easier for women to just shoot a shotgun from the hip than it is to try and aim it because they are too weak for the kick". The instructor was a ~65ish year old woman, whom i assume teaches at this range often and I haven't met her so I can't say anything about her background, but this has to be some pretty dumb advice regardless. I spent maybe 30 minutes (in a near rant) trying to explain how that's not going to work out for her quite as well as she thinks it is and how point shooting only seems to work if your name is Taran Butler. She took the class with her mom and sister so at the next dinner night im gonna have to get some clarification, but she swears that the instructor said that women should shoot a shotgun from the hip with the reasoning that it will help you avoid the "kick". I'm not even gonna go into how that makes 0.00 sense, but either way, that's my rant.

Knives, axes, cutlery, sharp stuff

That's a sweet axe! I was looking at tomahawks about a week back most were either too small to use, or too big to be a "tomahak", and ton of them had fiberglass handles. It looks like crkt makes a good selection at a really good price. The Chogan looks awesome! -

ZT makes some really sweet looking knives! I always tend to carry a knife a little on the larger side. My current EDC is a spyderco para2 and a cold steel frenzy. The frenzy is long but its thin so I slip it in my waist band and it fits like a glove. -

I want to get your guys take on what your favorites, EDC, etc... are and why you like them. Or maybe you dont like them. Whatever you think.

Thats quite a drive! With that kind of distance you would probably be better off just grabbing some off ebay. I think people sell them pretty cheap on there still. myself and a few other people started making them because they were having physicians, nurses...etc reuse masks they wash, but a washed mask is still pretty nasty. Long story short, one day they didnt need any more and so now theres a box of them laying around my garage

Exactly! Virtue signaling is our highest virtue.

By the way, I had 3d printed a bunch of masks when there were shortages for a number of friends/family in health care work to their spec. I have a bunch left. If anyone wants a 3d printed mask and replaceable filter I will give you one or a few for FREE I just ask that you meet me in Knoxville. The link shows specifically what they are. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4225667

Typical Face coverings do nothing to prevent the spread of a virus 5 microns in size average. Especially the cloth covers they sell. Getting sick is as easy as exposing any amount of active virus to a mucus membrane. The greatest risk is contacting an infected surface and then contacting your face either directly or by proxy. From what I've seen the past few months the average person has no clue how to use gloves to prevent cross contamination.

Exactly, I dont encourage someone to buy an ar15, ak47, ar10....etc unless they have the money to spend. Most newbies just dont wanna drop that kind of money and most, in my experience, tend to miss a whole lot even at 15 yards. But if they ask and they have a few grand, then yeah, rifle pistol shotgun combo for sure. You're absolutely right that in a riot, civil unrest, SHTF sort of scenario you're gonna want to avoid and evade. Effective ranges will be close. Edit: not saying I encourage a rifle first. I always encourage buying a good handgun first or shotgun.
