In some cases, say terminal cancer, advanced heart disease, etc, where someone was near death’s door, and then they contract covid and die, the complications of covid likely hastened their death. In those cases, I agree that calling it a covid death skews the data to a small extent. In these cases, maybe it would have been better to list the cause of death as cancer, or advanced heart disease, hastened or complicated by Covid-19. But today, obesity, high blood pressure, and other co-morbidities are managed so well that the conditions are not nearly as fatal as they used to be. Until you add a new complication like Covid-19. Then the body can’t handle the stress of fighting covid-19 and the other health issues and the patient dies. I would guess that if you looked at the death statistics of many more common illnesses (flu, pneumonia, bacterial infections, etc) you would find that in many cases, there were co-morbidites of the same kind we see with Covid-19 that made the illness more fatal.

The existence of a Co-morbidity does not mean the statistics are incorrect or they covid is not the cause of death. If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, or are obese, but are managing those issues, and then you contract Covid-19 and subsequently die from Covid-19, they will list the co-morbidity. You were fine and dandy, and trucking along, managing your health issue until you got covid. COVID-19 is the reason you died. https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-94-percent-covid-among-caus-idUSKBN25U2IO

Had my second shot today. The coffee at the office tasted like crap. But then again, it could have just been bad coffee. I’ll report if I have any negative effects (other than a sore arm). Obviously I don’t have a problem with the vaccine. I do trust science, and I do think folks should get the vaccine. But as Allycat72 said, it is a personal decision. I will not fault anyone for deciding to either wait for more data, or for deciding to not get it all together.

Auto Manufacturers pushing synthetic oil? (I’m a bit long winded today)
Snaveba replied to Randall53's topic in General Chat
Ditto on changing my own oil. I have always done it myself. Always full synthetic. There are usually good deals at autozone or O’Reily’s on oil and a filter. I switch between Mobil 1, Castrol, etc depending upon the deal. I can typically change the oil in about 20 min once I get back from the auto parts store. I do use conventional oil with a zinc additive in the FJ40. It has flat a tappet cam. I did finally take all my used oil to Autozone for recycling. -

I’m partial to my Ithica model 37. Mid-60’s vintage. It doesn’t as easily have the option to change the choke, but it is quite easy to swap barrels.

GE used to the gold standard. When we bought our house in Nashville (21.5 years ago when you could afford a house in Nashville) we bought GE/kenmore appliances (oven, refrig, dish washer). All lasted 20 years or more. The oven finally died in 2019, the fridg died this past summer (thank you stimulus check) and the dishwasher is still working. I don’t think anything is built to last that long anymore. It’s all “disposable”. When we told the sales folks that the appliances we were replacing were 20+ years old, they were amazed. Heck. the OLD brown GE refrigerator we took out of the kitchen in 1999 is still working in my in-laws pantry. I bet it is close to 40 years old

Finished the lower build for the .223 Wylde barreled upper. Started with a standard carbine stock, but after testing it out I don’t think the buffer/spring were quite right for the rifle length gas system. Thanks to KahrMan I added a full rifle stock and ended up with this.

The M&P 9 2.0 compact is a full-size framed firearm. 15 round magazine but it will run the full size 17 round magazine with a spacer. I have one nice shooting pistol

A forum like this is the extent of my interaction with “social media”. I never have understood the need to share my life to that extent with the world. I do have a Linked In account that is just work.

I also carry AIWB with a Tier 1 Axis Elite. P365XL with an optic. I would not consider myself fat, but not skinny (5’11”, 185). It is the most comfortable for me. And I feel it is the least likely to imprint. Or at least I can see if it is. i have carried IWB at the small of my back. Very comfortable, but the last time I did, while wearing a sport coat, my wife commented that she could see an imprint.

They are still not optic ready.

Anyone fired the Shield+ who has also fired the P365/P365XL? I’m curious how they compare.

I do not think the TGO is changing. But I am a little wary of a new member with zero posts and zero feedback. However, there was a time that we all were in that boat.

It was a WAG on my part. Seemed fitting.
