  1. Tedison?
  2. As I said in a previous post, I thank the members of this forum for the ability to have decent discussion about this. Maybe it is because we are all Tennesseans, and this event hits home, maybe it is because we know TGO David will swing the “Ban Hammer” if needed, or maybe it is because we care about each other, but this is healthy discussion, not a bunch of folks railing on one political side or the other as o the MO forum (mostly railing against one side). It has been a very hard week here in my world, and I give thanks that I feel comfortable expressing what is going on in this forum.
  3. I do think that the image posted has been shown to be fake.
  4. While more kids are killed “with cars” than guns, they are not killed intentionally and with malice, with cars. I agree guns are the easiest tool. What’s the saying “work smarter, not harder”. Evil will do what evil does.
  5. I can’t officially comment on this in relation to TCS as I am not a spokesperson. But they were not ignoring that.
  6. On another note, it is easy to tell that most of the newscasters are not gun owners or enthusiasts. It seemed to be a big deal that she had 7 guns and bought them all fairly recently. Hell, I have picked up 5 lever guns in the last 6 months. Not all were through FFLs, but that is not in-normal, at least for gun enthusiasts. Now, I am not saying she is a gun enthusiast, but you can tell the newscasters don’t realize that it fairly normal. it is normal, right?
  7. Well, I am not at all for a red flag law that can be implemented by a neighbor or ex, or disgruntled a$$. But if someone is under the care of a medical professional, and that professional feels they are a danger, at least there is some weight there. But still, that can be manipulated and abused.
  8. I know that all of us on the TGO don’t have the same opinions and political leanings, and that we also respect the rules regarding too much political discourse in threads. But I am glad this discussion has not de-evolved into just bashing one side or the other. I am on the MarlinOwner Forum, and the only thread I have seen regarding this tragedy is fairly ugly and one sided and conspiracy filled. I tried to post to it and just had to delete and step away Thank you all for your restraint if you do have strong opinions one way or the other.
  9. I can agree that if a medical professional thinks that a patient’s mental state is such that they pose a danger (to themselves or others) by owning a firearm then they should likely be under monitored care. Now this becomes a medical/insurance treatment issue as well. And maybe (probably) that is really the bigger issue here that needs to be addressed. I feel fairly certain that “we” understand it was not the firearm that made this happen, it was the tool used.
  10. Based on that, and the fact that it is easy to lie on the background check, what do folks now think about “red flag” laws of some type. If the doctor had been able to flag the system based on his diagnoses, then she would have been rejected. That doesn’t mean she would not have acquired a firearm in some other manner. I know this is a slippery slope, and I don’t know where I stand on the issue right now. But if flagging her was possible, and if the law required that all gun transfers went through a background check, it would have been more difficult for her to get a firearm. The thing is, even with all that in place, if someone who can’t own a firearm really wants a firearm, they will find a way. The question then is how badly did this shooter really want to do this. Would these obstacles been enough to have prevented this tragedy.
  11. No, she shot the glass out and climbed through the opening
  12. Thank you to those who have sent prayers and or reached out to give support. It really has been a f-ed up 32 hours. I’m still have a hard time wrapping my head around the entire thing. After Uvalde, my wife said “you know, if I’m killed, it will probably be with an AR because I work at a school”. At the time, on one hand I acknowledged the validity of her statement while at the same time dismissing it because what were the real chances of that happening at TCS. I did honor her request to remove AR type rifles from my collection. She just was not comfortable with them in the house. Now, almost exactly what she said happened. I truly believe she would have been right there with Dr. Koonce, trying to protect the children and would be dead today if she had not been out of town. It’s a total mind f-ck.
  13. That was really, really hard to watch. I know that building like the back of my hand. I fear the “one down” was our fabulous headmaster. When they reached the top of the stairs, if they had turned left instead of right, they would have been at the school office. I am so thankful that the training and policies of the school kept the students ( as best as possible) out of harms way did not provide her with more targets. And I am so thankful for the rapid and fearless response by the LEOs.
  14. Yes they did! Under fire from an upstairs window as they arrived and under fire when they engaged her.
  15. Well, I felt the local Nashville news did a very good job yesterday of reporting the facts as they were determined with out adding any “opinion” to them. I only know what was happening on the national news because my wife had to watch that from Mississippi. I was able to keep her updated better from the local news.
  16. It really bothered me how the National Media (FOX in particular) kept harping on that assumption, even after the local media and law enforcement had stated (and shown) she shot her way into the school.
  17. I believe you can be mentally il and still know exactly what you are doing. She was not insane. Something inside her made her fixate on TCS as an outlet to whatever rage she was feeling inside. A chemical imbalance could do that, or just being mad at the world that you feel doesn’t understand or acknowledge you, or all of the above. Maybe she had a deathwish and wanted to die by cop. It really doesn’t matter at this point. It mattered yesterday when maybe someone could have intervened, or someone could have stopped to listen to whatever it was that was making her fixate on the school. Or something could have been done to change the direction she had put herself on. But I will say, it wasn’t the gun’s fault. It was a tool. Just like a car is for someone who drives through a crowd or a rock is someone drops off an interstate bridge. Our mayor made the comment today that “guns took the lives of innocent people today” (paraphrasing). The guns didn’t do $h!t. Ms. Hale took their lives.
  18. To be honest, I don’t give three f*cks about her gender or any of that. People I knew personally are dead today. Children my wife cared for are dead today. Please pray for the victims, their families and the other students, families and staff. That is all we can do at this point.
  19. She was female. She was a student at the school in one of the early graduating classes. She was female when in elementary school and I assume born (genetically) female. This would have been 15 years ago, before all this transgender stuff became mainstream.
  20. We won’t really know her motive until they release the contents of the manifesto.
  21. The school was definitely targeted. Hopefully we learn why. Please don’t listen to the National media. The school kept all the doors locked. They did as much as they could to keep the kids safe. They went into lockdown with in minutes of the first shots fired. The shooter shot her way into the school. Again, Kudos to the LEOs for charging in and neutralizing the threat.
  22. They have the protocols to keep the door locked. There is speculation that she broke in, and I hope that is the case. It has been reported that all the door were locked like they are supposed to be. If so, hopefully schools can learn from this.
  23. The Covenant School (Covenant Presbyterian Church) has a very strong security process. My wife has been through several active shooter training courses including gun shot trauma first aid. They do active shooter drills with the students which is why they were able to lock down the students or get them out and to safety. They have to buzz visitors in. However, it is also a church. Kusdo to the MNPD for actively engaging the shooter and killing her. 14minutes from the call the the end. if my wife had been there, she would very likely be dead right now. It was in the upstairs hall right in front of the school office. She would not have hesitated to rush to the aid of the students.
