  1. +1 for Bill's outpost. Great place to to a transfer. $20 and a great service.
  2. Hmmm it's gonna cost me the $15 bucks, but I might make this one, mosin in tow. Is is sat or sun?
  3. If you ever need to use a .22 to dispatch a wounded animal, one shot in the ear is the way to go.
  4. Forget N. Korea. How about we dig into the Haliburton connection? They always seem to be in the "wrong" place at the right time.
  5. Probably for the same reason that they won't stop sending me credit card and insurance offers even when I repeatedly ask them not to; the NRA is all about $$$.
  6. Some of the comments in this thread are simply stunning. Can someone please explain to me how these "enviroweenies" could manage to bugger up the multiple levels of failsafes that are 5,000 ft below the surface when you need robots to go cause the pressure is so intense? I can't even begin to go into how depressing it is for my faith in the American people when I read comments saying that the sad thing is that this will take pressure off Obama because we will be distracted by the gulf. The implications of this are truly devastating. The buck stops with BP on this one, and yet most refuse to see this as evidence of what it is, the best reason why we should be cautious about drilling for oil on our own coasts. Our oil dependancy is an addiction and one that is destroying America across the board.
  7. I wouldn't post that you are buying the gun for someone else. If it is as a gift, you might want to reword your original post.
  8. I don't think that is an ethical shot. Unless you got a big caliber, there is no way to know what is gonna happen to that second deer. I can't say I wouldn't be tempted, but unethical shots are often tempting. You just don't take em.
  9. well, I was up late working on my computer last night, and I begin to hear an owl hooting. I've heard this owl before, so no big deal, except what comes next. Suddenly the most god awful (or beautiful!) racket of turkeys starts up! I live 5 miles from downtown, but live on 3 wooded acres. I know what I am doing first thing tomorrow morning. It's bow time.
  10. Lovely. I would have bought a p30 a long time ago if only there were a way to get a threaded barrel for it.
  11. I agreed until I played with one for about 20 minutes. Sure there are some things it can't do, but a lot more that it can. My aging laptop has now become a desktop.
  12. I won't miss those features on my iPhone now that the iPad is out. This thing is the bee's knees.
  13. Wow Mark, really? The government mandate is simply that all traffic be treated equally. This situation is not unlike the American industrial revolution. There is so much power consolidated into the hands of VERY few companies that a free market environment simply doesn't exist. What government regulation does is simply ensure that these few companies can't abuse the massive amounts of power that they hold. This "any government is bad government attitude" is myopic. The government is not controlling anything here except to ensure that all net traffic be treated equal. Otherwise very few corporations control the majority of the information flow in our democracy. Democracies are utterly dependent on the free flow of information and ideas. This is simply a case of our government protecting our democracy from corporate interests. Say for example that comcast is anti-gun. Next time you log into this site from home, it loads so slowly that it essentially won't load. How about if it is blocked altogether? This is not an unrealistic scenario. What these companies are fighting for is to be able to put economic restrictions on the flow of information over the net. It also creates significant monopolistic opportunities. Comcast also provides TV content and phone services. I imagine the first content they will block or slow down will be video and VOIP related. News will be next. You will be able to access news only from sponsored sites. Forget the vibrant and often subversive weblog communities. The net is a public utility and should be protected as such. This issue is not unlike the healthcare issue. When so much power becomes consolidated into the hands of so few, there is simply little to no incentive to offer the best product possible to the consumer, thus removing the one check on the profit motive that the free market has. The only incentive is to make the most money possible. Since the supreme court in its infinite wisdom has decided that corporations are now entitled to the same first amendment privileges as American citizens, I would expect these attacks on our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to only worsen, and to do so rapidly and dramatically.
  14. Huh? What does this have to do with Obama? This sounds like a company we all have given $$ to at one time selling us ammo on the one hand, and spewing anti-gun rhetoric to the military on the other to try and squeeze an extra dollar out of the American taxpayer.
  15. No Toms for me today, but I got two hens to come down and within about 30 yards of me. I will be back in the morning for sure. I was, however, greeted by this scene when the sun came up. Made the 2 mile hike in and out worth it:
  16. Recurve at that. I'm gonna give it a few trips with the bow before I switch to 12ga.
  17. Sharpened the broadheads tonight. Only one more day of waiting.
  18. Well, I whiffed on the quota draw. What are your favorite WMA's for Turkey in E. TN?
  19. I've always gotten courteous service at WD Sporting Goods on Alcoa Hwy right before the Food City.
  20. There was a thread about this on THR. I think the conclusion was that there are some major manufacturing flaws with the gun that are not being addressed. Edit: found it http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=508155&highlight=savage+smokeless and http://www.hpmuzzleloading.com/Alert2.html
  21. I watched it again. As they are walking through the trees there is a left-handed rifle. However, I was wrong, the guy holding it is lefty too. It wasn't in a shooting scene.
  22. It can't be too bad, I am sitting down to watch it for the third time.
  23. Not to derail, but why did they choose the switch to the stick mags? Reliability?
  24. Here is my beef. It seemed very compressed. When the fresh boots arrived at the end of the episode and they remarked how they looked like they had been to hell and back it didn't mean much. As viewers we had only seen one battle and about 15 minutes on the island. All the pre-deployment stuff felt a little cliche and kind of throwaway. It didn't create the connections that I thought it was trying to. The first episode of BoB wasn't the best partly because I spent the whole episode trying to get over that David Schwimmer was in it (he was ok, though, as much as I hate to admit it). However, the whole boot camp aspect provided a nice grounding before they were sent off. The Pacific didn't. Also is it just me or were the guns off? I thought that the military never used drum mags on the Thompsons, and every soldier with a rifle had an m1903. I only saw one or two Garands and no m1 carbines. I'm certainly no expert but that seemed off. Also, were they still using the water cooled M1917 machine guns? I thought 1919s were the standard by then. Would love to hear from someone with more knowledge of the gun history on this one. Also noticed a couple of errors. 1) there was a soldier cleaning a 1903 then a second later, he is holding a garand. Also when the machine gunner is handed a can of .30-06 he one hands it from the end, i.e. it is clearly empty or he would have dropped it lickedy split. Also a right handed guy is shooting a left handed springfield.
  25. This thread might give you some idea. It seems like the tolerances aren't that tight that a larger caliber suppressor would make any difference. http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=510654
