I really like the bulgarian stuff. I've only had one bad bullet (wouldn't even come close to chambering), and a couple split necks in 500 rds. I coughed up for some of the match SVD ammo but never found it to be worth the $$. Certainly no more accurate in the finn than the bulgarian. Maybe it is best suited to the SVD. I've got 800rds of czech on the way, and I've been told that it is pretty good. By far the worst stuff I've shot is Barnaul zinc plated. Wolf wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it kept jamming the bolt. From what I've heard, the russin mosins like light ball, and the finns like heavier bullets. Unfortunately, the heavier stuff is not as plentiful. Mike, did you end up ordering the mojo peep sights?

The best I can dig up is that the sneak rifles were made between 67 and 71 for the purpose of target shooting. They were made from selected new old stock parts from when the finns ceased producing rifles (1945?). They are reported to be accurate, because they were built and fitted from selected parts with accuracy in mind. From what I've read, and this is hard to substantiate, but I've read it in multiple places FWIW that none of the Finnish m39s would be put into service if unless they shot 1.5" at 100m. I've never seen one of these sneaks before. But the one that is on its way is unissued, so I can't wait to fire it.

I am a lapsed triathlete, but still run about 20mi, bike about 40mi, and swim about 15k a week. I used to bike a lot more than I do now, but only do a one ride a week. The roads just aren't safe. Although bikes have every right to be there, it's hard to argue with 2 tons of steel that thinks they don't. Anyone in the Knoxville area running the pilot 5k on Friday night?

I just picked up a 1967 "sneak" M39. I can't wait to see what this thing will do. I've heard that most of these "sneaks" will do sub MOA. Too bad I can't shoot that well! As far as the buttpad thing goes. I turned my shoulder yellow twice shooting from the bench with mosins. After that, it is limbsaver all the way.

It would need to start with American consumers.

Crosspost: Is America the next Ancient Rome?
9teeneleven replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I've got a couple of points to add. 1) The past always looks rosier, partly because we didn't live there. 2) The things that are destroying America are either maturing or taking root in other countries too. The tools we use to communicate, i.e. TV and the Internet, are dumbing us down. When Rome collapsed, the civilized world went with it. America was/is the fruition and zenith of the enlightenment (which brought about in large part by the printing press). The idea that we will be replaced by some other power is, I think, misguided. If (big if) we go down, it is not just America that is going down, but the enlightenment ideal that is going down. Greek and Roman culture was facilitated by one thing, the invention of written language, and the ability to communicate, study, and share information. When they went kaput, it wasn't a period of no central power (there was a central power that replaced Rome, it was the church), it was a period of no ideas, or the isolation of ideas (which is possibly just as bad). It took over 1000 years to get out of. However, in general, I tend to resist the idea that history repeats itself. It might have for the thousands of years prior to the Greek golden age, and Roman empire, but somewhere a few hundred years ago, the game changed, and technology and population (both of which experience exponential growth) started their rapid acceleration. History won't repeat itself, it can't; the world is too different. The dark ages were pretty dark, but you didn't have stuff like billions of people and nuclear weapons back then. -
Best place in knoxville for a C&R transfer
9teeneleven replied to 9teeneleven's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I've done FFL transfers before, but in those cases, the gun was coming from another FFL. In this case, I need to find a shop that knows that it is ok to accept a firearm from an individual. The last two I called insisted that the gun had to come from an FFL. Has anyone had any luck in this department in the Knoxville area (and at or under $25) -

It literally takes 5 minutes max. Knock one pin out on the back sight, and replace with the new one, knock pin back in. The front sight on the russian is different from the finnish, but shouldn't be too much trouble. For me, it was a matter of two flat-head screws.

Those are the ones.

I bought an AR a few months ago, but I only have a couple hundred rounds through it, and it has stayed home on the last two range trips. The AR is more accurate, and much cooler looking, but my mosin is by far my favorite gun to shoot these days too. I just ordered 800 rounds of czech surplus today to make sure I won't run out of ammo for it anytime soon. It's also nice to shoot a rifle that is only .20 cents a round, too. I put mojo peep sights on mine, because the front blade sight was too high. They are a nice touch for range shooting, especially with round black targets.

Here is a 100yrd 5 shot group with my finnish mosin using Bulgarian surplus and iron sights. The flyer was shooter error. I finally got a limbsaver, which, indeed lives up to its name.

wow, that's not in bad taste.

Is there any discount for ORSA members?

PM me if your interested in them. The magwell is the Wilson combo mainspring housing/ magwell. really easy drop in install. The stock Kimber mainspring housing was plastic, which struck me as weird on a stainless gun. It's cheap plastic too.

I like that, it looks like it takes a little of the shine off them.

I will admit to taking mine off today. I like the grips, I just like the classic look of wood better. David, I can't wait to see the pics.

They had 8 boxes of blazer .45 at maryville WM when I was there yesterday. Only 2 when I left

That Bulgarian ammo is pretty good stuff as far as mosin milsurp ammo goes. I've found it will group pretty nicely.

I'm done searching for .45 until this mess is over, I just ordered a .22 conversion kit for my 1911 instead.

CCI and Federal are owned by the same parent company are they not? The ammo is not made in the same places though.
